  1. The only treat my dog never tires of. The picky little dog usually gets the larger size I break into 4 – 5 bites bites.I’ve lost track how many bags over the last few years. They smell fine to me, not stale, never unpleasant and being semisoft, they’re perfect for her little mouth. They somewhat stick to the dogs teeth so she keeps chewing instead of gulping it down like other types. This simple formulation may not sound like much, but it’s a big deal. One of these treats produces a more pleasure, over a longer time, making a much bigger impression on Doggie’s brain’s pleasure centers, and a firmer association in her memory.I used these treats to teach this (adopted) 7 year-old+ dog ‘new tricks’ and it was easy.Using only positive reinforcement, she’s gone from mistrusting and ignorant, to loving and educated, with no punishment type training and never a harsh word needed. She’s not much for chicken. I introduced her to a live chicken, she sniffed at it and ignored it. Not a gene in her reacts to birds and I don’t think they smell like food to her. She’ll chase a mouse, but ignores pigeons.I’ve also noted that even when ‘I spiced up’ her fowl based kibble and she’d eat it, she was listless and tired the next day, but when I switched to beef kibble her energy picks up.She has the treat schedule figured out. Comes home from a walk/ ride, races right to her throne, assumes the “sit pretty” position like a machine and stays there until she gets her due. If I get distracted, 10 minutes later there she is, like a stiff little statute (Look at me! Look at me! Where’s my treat?). She’d blissfully eat the whole bag if I’d comply, but I have to watch her weight – so I’m sneaking in the smaller portions.I want her short life to be a happy journey. I’d be content living tending a garden and caring for the creatures, all day, every day, forever an ever – just like Adam was supposed to do. That’s my idea of paradise, not being a stock broker/ lawyer/ politician/ banker … for all eternity.Meanwhile, I recommend these treats. In 60 years of owning and training dogs, they’re the best I’ve found. Every dog should have their day, and a good dog two!

  2. Missing Best Before date. A very good product that I purchase every month via Subscribe & Save, but this month the package has no Best Before date anywhere, and I mean we looked every place. I am not too keen on feeding our dog any food item that has no such date! For all I know, it could be very old, out-of-date stock that is being shipped to unsuspecting customers. I have attached an image showing a package I have on hand (on the right) with the date clearly visible, and on the left is the package in question with no date. I don’t feel confident or comfortable enough to say, “oh, it’s probably okay”, and then proceed to feed him the treats. I would like the company to send me a replacement.–> Edit In: I guess no one from Merrick reads these reviews, as it is now 12 days since I complained about there being no Best Before date on the dog treats I received. I thought that someone from their Customer Service department might read through these comments and take appropriate action when and where it seems called for. Seems that not stamping a Best By date on a food product would be something Merrick should show some concern about. I could have complained to Amazon, but they’re not the ones who manufacture this item. Maybe not buying Merrick products in the future is the only recourse a customer has.–> 2nd Edit In: One year later and I have continued to purchase this item regularly for my GSD and I have not encountered the “not stamping of the Best By date” again. Conclusion being it is not an on-going issue for this company, and my canine is super pleased that he is still getting his Merrick Treats!–> 3rd Edit In: Product is now sold in a stand up pouch that has Best By date clearly marked in white on the bottom of the bag. Also, GSD wants me to note that he loves these treats. :)–> 4rd Edit In: Why do manufacturers always think they need to change something about a product in order to retain consumer loyalty? Recently, they changed the shape of the snacks to resemble small stars. They are harder to separate, and the old-style “chunks” had a bit more substance to them. The package weight has not changed (still 6 oz) but I believe these new stars are smaller. So, I suppose, more of them, is what the marketing geniuses decided was so attractive. Wish they would just leave well-enough alone! I did ask German Shepherd, and he has no opinion… as long as I keep the treats flowing in his direction.–> 5th Edit In: Factory packaging (zip lock bags) seem to have gotten cheaper in quality, i.e. they tend to tear with repeated opening and closing. I solved this annoying development by reusing a large-size supplement bottle. Simply pour the bag’s treat contents into the bottle with screw cap, and no more messing around with opening and closing a cheaply-made zip closure. Once again, dog doesn’t care… just wants the goods! 🙂

  3. My puppy likes them! A bit hard and large though. My dog Moki liked these for training, we got the Rabbit flavor. She did find them high value like the hot dog pieces I use for training interchangeably. They were not higher value than her tug of war toy but that’s understandable. These treats are definitely a little harder though, than say the “Blue Buffalo Wilderness Trail Treats Wild Bits High Protein Grain Free Soft-Moist Training Dog Treats”, and a bit large so they took her a moment to eat, slower than those other training treats I’ve used or hot dog pieces. I am curious to try different flavors, and would like them if they were a bit softer. The smell is pretty strong and I think the flavor was good for my puppy.

  4. Flavor? I am not eating them. I got these for training treats right before 1 of my dogs was put on a no beef diet. The other two thank him! They are just about the right size. They could be a little bit smaller, though. My dogs like more treats, not larger treats. 3 small treats are better than 1 big treat to them. My dogs are all food motivated, so small treats work wonders on them. There should be more in a package, but that is the way things are these days. Hopefully I don’t have to start eating them, then I will find out about that flavor thing!

  5. These are perfect treat for a reward. These are my go to treats. We were able to train her with some tricks using these, and she will get a couple when she comes inside from the backyard. She is an American bulldog and 75 pounds, so it seems this treat would be very small, but it is perfect for a small reward. Particularly because you can give him or her more than one, and trust me they will love it!

  6. Picky eater friendly. My pitbull is extremely picky and so is my multiple and I would say the Maltipoo is more picky for my pitbull. I need to use only be products and I must say she loves these. Maltipoo is Aiden right away. I’m happy for the products, and I am glad I found a all these products as well. This helps my pitbull with her allergies. Five stars.

  7. Too big for training treats, but great texture and taste. I’m looking for an alternative to zukes. Their treats are the perfect size, the salmon ones are the perfect texture (the others are too dry) but I think the taste and smell is so so. I feed Merrick red recipe food which my dog really likes. He also really likes these treats (tested rabbit, beef, and salmon). The texture is perfect for training, but for medium size dogs (up to 60 lbs) they are about 3x too big for training. I cut in fourths for training. Probably the perfect training treat for large or giant breeds.

  8. Dogs LOVE them. Both my dogs approve, they love these treats. A bit expensive, but seeing how much they like them, it’s worth the cost. They fit in the treat dispenser nicely, so I put some of these in mixed with other less expensive treats. .

  9. Great quality. My dog loves these, they are a great healthy treat for your dog. They work very well for training. They are small soft bites and are good for any size dog. They are very good quality for the price.

  10. Puppies love! (They’re actually older dogs). Both Husky and Lab adore these treats. I usually give them one before my husband and I head to work. Just to say love them and we’ll be back soon. They probably don’t know that’s what we mean when we give them now that I think about it lolBut they love em! All the tricks come out, and they are ready to receive this small little bites. They are SOFT ENOUGH FOR ILDER DOGS TEETH, and chewy so they last a moment longer than other treats I’ve tried. My lab will toss treats back like humans do medication, but he drools at the mouth with these. Very good treats to use when training, and found that they are pretty gosh don inexpensive.

  13. My dogs give 5 stars. When looking for grain-free treats, we came across these and decided to try them out. All 3 of our dogs love them. They are small, soft, & do not have a strong salmon scent. Great value for the money.

  14. Our dogs are obsessed. We love these treats!! I’ve been purchasing them for years now for my older dog and now our puppy loves them as well. They’re soft but still chewy and the ingredients are relatively simple. They don’t have a very strong smell but they’re still great for training! Will always have these as some of our staple treats!

  15. This new bag is a fraud. The REAL company treats are awesome. Buyer Beware: I have purchased these treats for years, but these are not the same. The package is smaller but looks similar, and the treats are smaller and my dog doesn’t like them. She used to love these. What changed??Will will be contacting the company. After calling the company, these “different package” treats that look similar but are not the same, ARE NOT a product of the Merrick company. It appears that someone is making treats that are not from this company. Such a shame. Amazon needs to look into this problem. Buyer Beware!!

  16. Good quality ingredients and our dogs love them. Great treat item and you get quite a few in the bag. We usually treat with 1-2 depending on dog size. Never upset the tummies and have not experienced any problems or concerns with the quality of these treats. We have tried all of the flavors, but our kids like this flavor the best. Also, we use these as a chaser when giving them their medicines to ensure the pills go/stay down. Recommend.

  17. Good size treats & gluten free. These are a good, non-messy treat for training a young dog. I keep them in a pouch in my pocket. They started making them a little larger, but I actually wish they kept them smaller (thus a 4-star vs 5-star rating). I needed gluten free so I could handle them without fear of MYSELF being exposed to the gluten.

  19. Great product. Very useful for training

  20. Rabbit is pets favorite. Both the cat and dog love rabbit treats. Size is about a dime round but pretty thick. Just right for the dog and not to big for the cat. They are a soft chew.

  21. Furry Fan Fave. Merrick is amazing. Our two dogs (a Golden Retriever and a Boykin Spaniel) adore all of their treats and wet food, but these Rabbit power bites seem to be the fan favorite. What I love most about them is the size of the treats. On days when there seems to be a revolving door in our house, I don’t feel badly “treating” them multiple times, and they’re still big enough to satisfy their cravings.

  22. Perfect size treats for small dogs and easy to chew. My min pin loves these treats! Soft, and not too small and not too big! You can even break these in half if you needed to!

  23. Great treats for our working dogs. Our dogs favorite treats! They are healthy and easy on our girls stomachs. Make great training treats for our border collies and other working dogs. With training and working dogs every day they are on point for the money spent. Definitely help us out being affordable and healthy option.

  24. Dogs absolutely love them. He asked. Ok I have two crazy large Dalmatians, and I trim their nails, every Wednesday and Saturday and I give one for each paw. So each dog gets 4, they absolutely love these power bites.

  25. Dog loves. Walking treats. Good product.
