Effective. Maybe it’s just my dog but after a couple sprays it wears off and you sort of have to keep reapplying it to wear you don’t want your dog to chew. However, when sprayed, it does get my puppy to stop chewing.
No chewing with Grannick’s. I purchased a different no-chew spray that smelled terrible so of course our puppies loved it. It did not deter chewing in the slightest but the smell was so awful it certainly kept me from using it more than a couple of times. It also came in the tiniest bottle for the same price as the Grannick’s spray so that was a no-go. Enter Grannick’s – this stuff does exactly what it’s supposed to. It keeps our puppies from chewing whatever I spray it on, even the pee pads which they love to shred instead of peeing on. I just bought the second bottle so as long as the pups are in chewing mode, I’ll be sure to have a bottle handy.
Really worked!! Helped my dog’s fur grow back on hotspot. My 1 year old dog repeatedly licked her hotspot so raw that she destroyed her hair follicles. She eventually stopped licking obsessively but still licked enough to create scar tissue – the vet said the hair will probably never grow back. After 3 months of using this spray daily, she has stopped licking completely and her hair is starting to grow back in! I think this product really seems to have done the trick.
Works well but stops being effective for the last quarter of the bottle. Using this on my dog to stop her from chewing a growth in an impossible to wrap location. It works pretty well but we have to reapply it every couple hours and when there’s aboht a quarter of the bottle left it seems to no longer be bitter enough to deter her. Maybe we aren’t shaking it long enough? Either way, cheap enough to get a new bottle and continue to use that.
Works most of the time. When applied generously and often, it works even for stubborn puppies that chew everything. The key is repeat allocation and saturation.

I believe this spray can save the plushies of this world.I’m sure this spray won’t work for every dog, but it seems to work for mine. My poor Appa plushy was mistaken for a chew toy. Thankfully, I got to him before much damage could be done. But I knew I had to protect him from another brutal attack! So I ordered this anti-chew spray and sprayed it all over Appa. I offered Appa to the dogs as if he were a chew toy. One of my dogs tried to bite him, but as soon as she did, she immediately let go with a disgusted look on her face and walked away. My other dog sniffed Appa for a moment and then lost interest. Now Appa can live harmoniously with us again.
doesn’t really work. This might have deterred my dog once or twice, but he still tore some stuff apart that was sprayed with it. You’re better off training your dog to not do this as most of these products don’t really work that well.
Has stopped my dog’s incessant licking of paws. My dog had licked her paws to the point of creating a sore. Once the sore had healed (because you don’t want to spray this on an open wound) it has worked well to keep her from licking again. (Doesn’t work on all dogs or animals though. I had one that liked the taste. . . fortunately this one doesn’t.)

All I can say is thank you. Thank you so much for making this product my dog hates it. He refuses to chew on anything he hates the smell and it lasts very long. Its safe and easy to use. Not sticky at all doesn’t have a smell. Perfect for puppies that likes to chew everything.

Most products are to train your dog where and what they are allowed to do; eventually everything smells like them! This only tastes bad, they might get one nibble before they stop. It washes off easily with water and mild cleaners

It worked so-so but my dog is also a bit touched in the head. The spray worked at first to deter the puppy from popular chew items. The puppy doesn’t love the smell and backups, but after awhile, she’s right back to being a menace. Now, my puppy may be on the spectrum if there is one for dogs. So maybe it’s just my puppy’s internal issues and not the product’s.
This one WORKS. Used Grannick’s to stop destructive puppy chewing behavior when my last dog was a puppy and it worked great then. This time around with my new puppy I tried some different techniques and a different deterrent spray brand and nothing worked. Went back to Grannick’s and it still works like a charm! Silly me for not sticking with “old faithful” to begin with.
Does the job and works great. I bought this for my small white dog that licks constantly under his legs and on his paws. The Vet confirmed that there were no fleas or skin issues, other than he picked up this habit and we couldn’t break him. I spray this on those areas and he no longer licks them at all, he hates the taste. It doesn’t have a bad smell and is easy to spray right where he needs it. I use it most days and he’s nearly broken his bad habit.
Works great. Works great for regular boredom chewing, but not as well for dogs that chew out of anxiety. I’ve found that they chew it anyway, and it causes them to salivate so then you have a wet mess too. Good for training as c puppy what’s good to chew and what’s not, as you can spritz this on furniture legs and pillows, out whatever you don’t want chewed.
Strong Smell. Works, But Have To Respray Often. It works, but loses its effectiveness after a couple of days.Very strong alcohol smell, which disipates after a few minutes just like with rubbing alcohol.The spray bottle was not easy to use without it leaking with every spray. Maybe I received a defective sprayer bottle? For this reason I recommend wearing gloves!The first time I used Grannick’s Bitter Apple was over 20 yrs ago and it worked like a charm – just sprayed everything once and done. For that reason, it would have received 5 stars, but unfortunately I can’t give it a true 5 stars today.Although it worked and my puppy didn’t like the taste of it, after just a couple of days, I found myself having to respray everything again. Not sure why it’s losing it’s effectiveness so quickly. But I did notice today’s product has a very strong alcohol smell, whereas the older product only had a faint apple smell.I hope the manufacturer, or whomever, hasn’t cut all the bittering ingredients and factors that once made this product very effective and would last, just to add or substitute it with more alcohol (hence the strong alcohol smell). I may try to purchase this elsewhere to see if there’s a difference and will update. Because at this rate and less quality, this product is going to cost me more than the items I’m trying to protect!I would also like to add that my puppy 20+ years ago was a Cocker Spaniel. My new puppy is a German Shepherd/Husky mix whom I recently discovered likes the taste of sour stuff, hence why a similar “super sour” product didn’t work. Maybe different breeds have different tastes buds? Idk, but thought maybe this background info may be of some help to others.
Works well for some dogs. So we got a puppy last year, and of course he did what teething puppies do and began chewing on everything. In an attempt to try to stop it we picked up some of this bitter apple spray to try. We’d purchased it before years ago for a different puppy, and it absolutely did not work on her – she continued chewing on things as if we’d just added flavoring. Because of this experience we were skeptical if it would work on this new pup, but figured it was worth a shot. Much to our delight, he IMMEDIATELY stopped chewing on anything we sprayed with this. He is very much put off by it, and it has been a huge success.I’m giving it 4 stars because the product isn’t perfect and won’t work for all dogs, but it’s absolutely worth trying to see if it works for yours.
Does not stain furniture and leaves a nice scent. This is an excellent product. Our pug/chihuahua mix had been rescued from a rain ditch when we adopted her. The first day we brought her home she was understandably showing signs of stress and behaviour problems, but with time, patience and love she slowly came around. One thing we still had issues with was her chewing and ripping the stuffing out of our pillows and couch cushions. A friend recommended Grannick’s bitter apple no chew spray. We’re very happy with the results, thanks to this spray, it has stopped her chewing and ripping our pillows and cushions. This bitter apple spray seems to have a calming effect on her. I especially like that this spray does not leave a stain, but it does have a nice pleasant scent.We started using this no chew spray everyday for a week, then used it before leaving the house and now we don’t need to use it all, but it’s good to have just in case. This no chew spray gives us peace of mind.I highly recommend Grannick’s bitter apple no chew spray. It’s a really good value for the money.
Works well. Our dog loved chewing on the corners of walls and many other things. The spray has been stopping her chewing. Only downside is it wears off quickly so you must reapply.
