DHP Aiden Metal Futon Frame, Black Large

This is working out quite well! So far I’m happy with it. So much better than what i had. The price was right. And although there are a few bad reviews, there are a lot of good ones. I also saw this frame recommended on another site that was reviewing futon frames, “The Sleep Judge.” It was #5, but number 1 was too expensive, number 2 was another DHP frame that wouldn’t work for me, number 3 and number 4 were twin size chairs and expensive, and then there was this one. So when i saw it went on sale, i got it. I’m glad I did. It’s working out well.It took a while to put together, but i would not say it was difficult. There were a lot of screws. Just stay organized about it. (I used my own hex tool which made it a bit easier) There was one part where the picture didn’t match very well to the product, and I ended up having to redo something, but it didn’t take long. Just pay really close attention to the drawings.Because this futon frame is lightweight, I would not suggest it for anyone who might be giving it a lot of punishment. I would also suggest, contrary to what the top reviewer says, do not use a power screwdriver unless you are very careful. I had no problem using a regular screwdriver to install all the screws. They do say that when the futon is pulled out in bed mode not to sit or lie on the very edge. I would say that would be more of a problem for a heavier person, but it’s an issue of balance. Since they don’t know the weight of the person purchasing it, they make the warning. (again, this is a lightweight frame.)If you have a thick futon mattress with coils/foam that doesn’t fold easily, then there is a learning curve to getting this to go back into the couch position. At first i thought I would never be able to do it. (I still would have been better off than the old frame I had). But after some experimenting and practice, I can get it folded every day in a matter of seconds and I’m a 5 foot 4 inch woman. You need to stand on the side of the futon where the arm rest is. Grab the top of the “backrest” part of the mattress and push it forward like your pushing the mattress into a folded position, then grab the seat part of the frame and pull up toward the “backrest” part of the mattress. If this doesn’t pop the frame into couch position, then let go of the mattress and grab the “backrest” part of the frame and pull it toward the “seat” part of the frame so the seat and backrest of the frame are forming a “V”, then rock the whole thing forward (toward the seat side) and it should fall into position. It works for me every day.

overestimated my building abilities a bit. Alright so, we went into this pretty optimistic. the box itself was packaged I’d say very well. organized, labeled, wrapped with plastic and spaced out with cardboard piece’s. decently heavy box, should have two people to carry it upstairs unless you wanna throw your back out. Now to the building process; the directions were a little hard to read but that’s how almost all these build it yourself amazon products are. The hardware pieces were organized perfectly in a way i haven’t seen before. They aren’t just thrown mixed together in a box, but individually spaced in plastic on a single cardboard piece for easy finding of each screw. MAKE SURE TO TAKE YOUR TIME ON EACH STEP. trust me, you don’t wanna tighten 4 screws in a cramped spot and have to restart. One complaint is some of the metal poles you need to screw pieces together into are too small. Directions say not to use a power drill, but using on a very low torque should be fine, and will save a lot of headache trying to hand screw metal on metal (if that makes sense). after 3 hours, we finally got it completed! Luckily we received an used mattress from some family and it fit perfectly on the frame. i find it easy to fold from couch, to bed, as they include handles that can be screwed on. it feels sturdy to sit on and has some decent space for at least three people and it still doesn’t feel cramped. I personally like how the back piece is a bit higher, so it doesn’t feel all small and like a child’s seat to sit on despite being lower to the floor than a couch or sofa would be. Overall, i don’t find it cheaply made like some people have said, you get what you pay for. Don’t buy a $70 frame and expect it to hold over 3000 pounds, it’s perfect for a hang room or bedroom for a group of teens or young adults like myself.edit: dropped some stars because the metal on the seating part broke and now you can fall through if you sit in a certain spot. not to mention to can feel the metal bars that are super uncomfortable to sit on. honestly not worth it.Edit 2: all the bars are completely breaking and popping off now, very disappointing

Initially, exceeds expectations. I try not to buy things that don’t work, agreeing obviously that buying something multiple times is almost always costlier than buying something solid once. For the price, I did feel I was taking a risk, though read some good reviews, and the sheer number of units sold was reassuring. Just built today, by myself, in about 75 minutes, I am impressed. Shipping was perfect. The instructions are fantastic…there are zoom-in’s that are super helpful, and examples of just saying what direction things should be in clear English (Spanish and French instructions included and lots of pictures, but would recommend finding YouTube demo if not speaking English.) You need a Phillips, there is a typical light wrench and Allen included. Occasionally the angle is odd, but you can usually shift to make it easier. I am using a thick mattress, which I would recommend because, as stated by others, things are designed lower to the floor. As it sits, I would not want it higher than it is. Not sure where it will live between “family” and “play” room, but totally works in either. If the metal brackets are placed that keep things upright (couch), it is difficult to switch. I plan to use it as a couch almost always, so this is a non-issue. The few times I will convert it to a bed, I will remove the mattress and brackets. If you are frequently going back and forth, put the brackets in a drawer. It shifts perfectly, smoothly, and rather quietly, and gravity will keep things solid. It has been a day, so if everything goes to hell, I’ll update, but you typically know if something is almost definitely going to work long-term, and after building, I am feeling confident.

Minimalistic value. This was a value purchase as always. By my choice, it was assembled by myself & not all at once. It was put together over time throughout a week. It does what it supposed to do. A 8 inch poly-filled mattress was bought at value separately through a competitor (W. Mart). There was a little worry about mattress length vs. frame sitting length, but it was useless mind energy on my part. The mattress fit fine lengthwise, despite apprehensive thought. The two metal retainers on the front of the frame to hold a mattress in place and prevent it from slipping forward while in ‘sitting position’ are illustrated and written in the manual as to be fastened and screwed securely in place is “wrong” in its position. They fasten and screw securely from the outside of the frame; this on the opposite side of the instructions. The metal support frame gets in the way and does not allow secure placement of the retainers as described and shown on the page. The retainers were not manufactured with the right amount of design, or the frame was not, or the manual writers were wrong. Anyway, they attach securely from the outside to the preset screw holes from underneath to hold a mattress nonetheless. Further, make a path for your screws. The pre-set holes on the frame do NOT provide the screws to be put in with ease! One needs to use the screws twice. There is once to enlarge the hole and create an easy helix path in the metal, then, the second for securely attaching whatever is in the guide booklet. To conclude, luckily, I had already on hand from past needs some very affordable camping mats purchased from said competitor. They look like yoga mats and seem to be made from the same stuff that is used for those noodles used in pools for floatation. Anyway, I put one under the sitting side of the futon and one behind the back of the mattress. It does feel more comfy to me with those additions. – Done –

This metal futon frame came with detailed instructions and all of the hardware and tools needed to put it together except for a Philips head screwdriver. There is an offered link for assembly videos, but they were not needed. I followed each step carefully and the finished result is sturdy and good quality! The measurements were just as advertised and our old futon mattress fit it perfectly! (I did not buy the mattress from this company). The frame transitions smoothly from a seat to a bed and back. This product is well priced and well constructed!

Very sturdy. Not sure how easy it is to fix since I just paid someone to do the job but it has held up pretty well considering my partner is 360lbs and sleeps on is almost 50% of the time. The thing that holds the mattress up broke after a few months but that didn’t really matter as the bed still held up on its own. I have slept in it a couple times and it’s been ok considering I have a bad back and almost no bed is truly ok for me unless it’s a sleep number bed BUT that being said, it’s pretty good and very sturdy! It’s easy to move around too. I like it alot!

It’s durable. It took me a while to write a review for this futon, it’s easy to assemble and durable. I really didn’t get to “break it in” but I got to break it in recently and it held up for a good 6 hrs, it was a little shaky but it didn’t break so that’s amazing

Looks great, pretty sturdy. I was worried that the support stand in the middle was too shrimpy but it seems pretty stable from what I’ve seen. If your futon is too chunky you have to take it off before you change this frame into bed or couch mode.

difficult to assemble but lightweight for frequent moving. It took a long time to assemble and the instructions weren’t very clear sometimes. I’ve had it for a year now and it’s nicely lightweight for moving. The only other complaint I would have is that you HAVE to have the S hooks in place otherwise the futon bows and it creeks and feels like it’s going to break.
