  1. Impressive! No more mange. It’s been 10 days today and the mange is almost gone. I used a combination of DermaPet” Benzoyl Peroxide Plus Shampoo (DermaBenSS); Davis Benzoyl Peroxide Medicated Dog & Cat Shampoo, Veterinary Formula Clinical Care Antiparasitic and Antiseborrheic Medicated Shampoo for Dogs, and Nu-Stock. I’ll outline what I did in a second. Some background: My 10 year old boxer contracted what looked to be demodectic mange. She got bumps on her skin, some large, some smaller. They would start leaking pus, then crust over, and when they scabs came off, she’d have a dark, calloused patch of bald skin. She wasn’t terribly itchy. And she didn’t get stinky. The sores were mostly on her back. Granted, this wasn’t the worst case of mange, by a longshot. She’d recently had two procedures under general anesthesia and I wasn’t keen on the idea of subjecting her toxic dips and other potentially harmful meds, especially given her age. So first I tried the Listerine & baby oil route. Didn’t really help. Then I switched to Borax, hydrogen peroxide and water. That helped a little, but I had to go out of town for a week and couldn’t treat her. When I got back, she looked worse and had more bald patches. She also had a new oozing sore.I read up on Amazon and chose the four products I mentioned earlier: DermaPet” Benzoyl Peroxide Plus Shampoo (DermaBenSS); Davis Benzoyl Peroxide Medicated Dog & Cat Shampoo, Veterinary Formula Clinical Care Antiparasitic and Antiseborrheic Medicated Shampoo for Dogs, and Nu-Stock.First, I washed her as directed with the benzoyl peroxide shampoos. These shampoos are supposed to flush the pores out and clean out the gunk. I used this step to essentially prep her skin for the following two steps. FYI – DermaBenSS lathers up more and has a coconut-y scent, but Davis seems just as good. I used a little of both. I didn’t need a lot of shampoo. Just remember, these shampoos don’t lather up like regular shampoo, so don’t keep putting it on thinking you need more. I think of this stuff more like a benzoyl peroxide face wash. (Those don’t really later up either.) I kept the shampoo on for 10 minutes, massaging the shampoo into her fur (not scrubbing – I didn’t want to hurt her). Then we rinsed. It’s very easy to rinse off if you don’t gob it on.After that, I used the Veterinary Formula Clinical Care Antiparasitic and Antiseborrheic Medicated Shampoo for Dogs. This one lathers up much more. I think the benzoyl peroxide shampoos really allowed this stuff to get in and work its magic. I followed the directions and kept it on for 15 minutes. It smells medicine-y. Again, massaging it into her fur. After that, we rinsed and towel dried, then pup shook and rubbed against the length of the furniture a dozen or so times. After she dried off a bit more, I put out a waterproof blanket and got out the Nu-Stock. I read lots of reviews about the smell so I was expecting something horrible. It’s not perfume, that’s for sure, but it’s really not as bad as I expected. It smells pine-y and medicine-y, with a bit of sulfur in there. It dries chalky and it can be greasy, so be careful of your furniture. That’s why I put the waterproof picnic blanket on my bed.I applied Nu-Stock directly to her new sores and recent scars, but also spread it over her back where there were quite a few recent scabs. I did this by thinning the Nu-Stock with baby oil, and using an old hair dye brush to make sure the solution got in good contact with her skin. The Nu-Stock sticks pretty well, so your pup might look a little odd with the yellow stuff on her coat. Again, I think the benzoyl peroxide shampoo helped prepare her skin so she could get the full benefit of this product.I repeated this process every three days. On the third and fourth washes, I started using a washcloth to make sure every part of her skin was cleaned properly. Again, not scrubbing, just washing gently. All told, she’s been washed and treated with Nu-Stock 4 times. And OH WHAT A DIFFERENCE.1. No new sores have popped up, for the first time since she contracted this horrible condition2. The open sores have healed with new pink skin, not the dark, calloused hard skin that usually appeared when scabs fell off3. Hair is growing back nicely – even on the older scarsThis treatment actually makes her coat shiny. Today, she actually seemed like she felt better after her bath – she was romping around like a puppy.I am so grateful to these companies for their amazing products. I think using all these products in tandem made for my pup’s quick recovery. I’m never going without these. As long as I have a fur baby, my cupboard will be stocked with these fantastic products!

  3. Finally something to help with our GSD’s atopic dermatitis, seborrhea, and out-of-control yeast. We have a GSD who has had skin issues starting after puberty around ~2 years old, and the only thing that helps keep her comfortable in the Midwest’s awful mold/spore/allergy seasons (spring, summer, fall) is a weekly bath. We’ve tried OTC meds, prescription meds, shots, special diets – EVERYTHING and nothing seemed to help. We started doing weekly baths (once every two weeks in the dead of winter) with this specific shampoo and are so impressed! Her skin is no longer red and irritated, it helps keep her oily skin and coat at bay, and she’s not up half the night itching like before! We have even tried every combination of prescription shampoo, OTC shampoo and even other ones from this brand – and this one is hands down the best. The smell isn’t our favorite (tar-y smell to it a little) but it mostly goes away after a day or two. Our dog is so much happier with clean skin, knows our bathing routine so makes it easy on us, and after we let the shampoo sit on her skin/coat for a minimum of 15 minutes, we are set for 7-10 days of a shiny coat, soft skin and no dermatitis! This shampoo has saved us from constantly going to the vet for treatments and further expenses. It took us a long time to finally land on a product that works well for our dog’s skin and is cost effective. My local Walmart carries this shampoo as well, so in a pinch I have it no problem – but if your dog is running into similar issues, try this out and develop a good bathing/shampooing regimen for your dog! The trick is to definitely let the shampoo sit on the skin for a minimum 10 minutes and as an added bonus, wash their fur/hair/skin with a mild shampoo beforehand, so the “medication” portion of this shampoo can do it’s job directly at the source – on the skin. We also dilute the shampoo, roughly 2-3 tablespoons for 16 ounces warm water (add water first, then shampoo to not create suds) and use THAT to shampoo our pup. It works great, ensures that all the remaining shampoo is rinsed off at the end, and you don’t “overdue” it with the shampoo and waste any. Happy bathing!

  4. Smells nice. Our little husky pup has fleas or mites not sure which. I applied a flea and tick killer/preventative to her back a couple days ago which I know it’s gonna take a couple days to take affect, but in the meantime, the poor thing was scratching and itching so bad I just felt like I had to do something more for her. After reading reviews on several products, I chose this one because a lot of people said it helped calm the pets skin. They were dealing with flea or mite infestation‘s. She was just bathed yesterday with it and she seems to be scratching less today. It’s probably still gonna take some time, but it does smell very good and time will tell how much more of an effect it will have on her, but so far she seems to be a little better .

  5. Extremely Effective. I am amazed with how effective this shampoo is. My 12 year old German Spitz had an outbreak of demodex mites for no discernable reason as he was in excellent health. He started itching a few weeks before his yearly shots/dewormer/bravetco. The vet said the bravetco would clear them up in 1 to 2 months but he was itching incessently and was getting bald spots. I felt so bad for him. I am so happy I read the reviews and got this product. He has had 2 treatments 2 days apart. I followed the instructions and after massaging in the shampoo left it on for a full 15 minutes, it doesn’t take much and lathers up great. After the first treatment he was scratching occasionally. I just gave him the second treatment yesterday and he is not scratching at all plus hair has begun to grow back on the bald spots. Going to follow up with a few more treatments for good measure. It’s hard to believe how well it works and highly recommend this to all dog owners.

  6. It works. This seems the only product we have used that actually works. It needs to stay on for 10-15 minutes but my dog is good about it. Without it she gets hot spots and seems mangy losing hair. The vet has stuff for us to treat her with that goes on her back once a month but does not make a difference without this shampoo. Vet has had us use other shampoos but this is just as good and easier to just order from Amazon instead of running to the vet. The vet has never done a skin scrape as she is sure it’s mange. My dog seems real susceptible to it. This product keeps it all under control. She is a black lab that is family pet and working hunting dog.

  7. Worked after 2 uses. My dog had seborrhea and scaly hot spots which spread over his skin in time. He was constantly biting and scratching and losing fur from hot spots. I was at my wit’s end because baths didn’t help. Vet’s shampoo was ridiculously expensive. I heard about this product and purchased it.My dog didn’t like the scent at all so I mixed half and half in my hand, this shampoo and his regular shampoo.Even without being full strength, it WORKED. I let it sit on my dog 5 minutes, rinsed, and followed with a little conditioner. No more itching. The next week, I saw him scratch and repeated shampoo process. Itching GONE! NO MORE SCALY PATCHES, or dandruff. His coat is clean, no residue. I recommend a conditioner afterwards though. Now I repeat same shampoo regimen once a month and my dog’s skin and fur is healthy, shiny, and skin clear of those itchy patches.

  8. Works well. My Pitbull bulky breed dog is 8 years okd she has bad allergies and got a really bad attack her hair fell out was very greasy and skin was flaking all over and the smell was horrible I use this shampoo once a week only draw back but all her hair is almost completely back her skin and coat is shiny not greasy and smells amazing This works i used so many other products I do use fish oil as well on her food and a multi vitamin with this shampoo You must follow directions exactly as stated and was dog often the smell is usually gone for 7-8 days after bath! This is a life changer for my dog and for me

  9. BUY THIS. I am overly impressed with this product. My lab German short hair mix was getting bit by some sort or gnats, flies or mosquitoes and had the worst rash from scratching and biting. After ONE wash it was drastically better. He stopped scratching & biting himself, and his rash looks a million times better. I started to loose hope before this. My vet had told me to wash him with Dawn dish soap and it was not working, other vets told me he would need allergy shots or medicine which costs a lot, you don’t know what those items contain & the dog becomes immune to it over time so you likely will have to up dosages. I lathered my dog up with this and let it sit for 10 minutes giving him a massage the whole time and then washed it off. It smells like a mixture of gunpowder & a hospital room, but I believe this stuff is magic. If you look at my pictures the one where I have a grey shirt on is prior to using this product, the other pictures in his dog bed are from a bath on Friday and it’s now Sunday evening. If your dogs skin is irritated to the point that they are making their skin raw, please buy this product, you will thank yourself, your bank will thank you, and most of all your dog will thank you.

  10. Amazing stuff. I cannot speak more highly, or recommend this product enough.I know for an absolute fact, this shampoo saved me hundreds of dollars in trial and error vet visits of trying to figure out what’s wrong with my dog.He was itching and scratching for nearly 4 weeks, and had progressively gotten worse. He’s always had bad allergies his whole life… but even his daily oral meds were no match for whatever else was plaguing him. I tried changing his diet, bathing in other shampoos, and RIGHT as I was at wits end… I decided to try another formula of shampoo.I lathered my baby up and followed directions to a tee. Kept it on the skin a good while, and a few days later, did it again…My dog is a new man. No more scratching incessantly!I will say, however, MY shampoo did NOT smell like coconuts. Was not a pleasant smell at all. Smells every bit like the sulfur and coal-tar that are in the ingredients… so I had to deal with the smelling like that a few days. But I’ll gladly take the smell over his discomfort, any time.

  11. The Absolute Best. Sorry I don’t have any pictures. My fur baby’s skin was dry bumpy her coat was soooo oily. This shampoo was her savior!!!!!! Yes this shampoo stinks LOL no exaggeration it really stinks compared to the tea tree but it works and that’s all that matters!!! Make sure u leave it on for the required time and rinse well…don’t add any conditioner lol deal with the smell. U will love the results!

  12. Worked great after 1 use. Worked great!! We saw a difference after once use!!!! We’ve tried multiple other products including shampoos, sprays and wipes with no relief but after one use our dog’s itching went from constantly to only a few times in 3 days!! I highly recommend this product!!! Tip: the instructions say to leave on for 10-15 mins, we left it on for 10 minutes while massaging into skin/fur multiple times during the 10 mins. It worked like a charm! Not sure if leaving the product on for less time will decrease the effectiveness. If you try it I recommend you leaving on for 10 minutes.

  13. A&C with our GSD in the Midwest January 2, 2024 at 12:00 am

Helps, but doesn’t cure seborrhea. It definitely helps with dog seborrhea, but won’t cure it. Daily prescribed cephalexin works to heal dog’s skin condition, but may need a continuous daily pill for treatment. This shampoo will also help as there is considerable less skin bumps after a shampoo bath with this. It is also cheaper than medicated shampoo found in pet stores. One negative is the smell. It’s kind of an oatmeal type smell, but no one in my family cares for it. Will continue to buy for our dog as it helps and is less expensive than other alternatives.

  14. JWT - not an influencer January 29, 2024 at 12:00 am

Wow. Out of all the shampoos I’ve tried, this is the only one that has worked for my fur babies, who both have sensitive skin. It relieved the itching, skin irritation, eliminated the odor and made both their coats really shiny. It has been a week after they had their baths and still smelling and looking good. I’m glad I gave it a try, and I don’t think I’ll be switching brands unless it becomes too expensive.

  15. Best shampoo for itching. Yes! I ordered this shampoo to use on myself when I was desperate with scalp itching. Honestly, when you feel like you have exhausted all other ways to help yourself stop itching, you might resort to dog shampoo too!!!I use this twice a week. I use more product than I normally would, mainly because I am not doing a double wash like I would with other shampoos. I leave it on for 10-20 minutes, rinse and then use Vanicream conditioner as a follow up.So far, this has helped me tremendously. My general practitioner looked at the ingredients on the bottle and thought it was a great product for me to use after me trying derm visits, multiple steroid creams, washes, sprays, oral supplements, etc.
