User Experience

My experience with the ultraloq u bolt pro wifi smart lock with door sensor has been largely positive, although it has not been without its challenges. Initially, the setup was straightforward and the app was user-friendly. I particularly appreciated the ability to grant temporary access to guests, which worked seamlessly.

However, I encountered issues with the lock becoming unresponsive after a few months of use. Fortunately, ULTRALOQ’s customer service was responsive and sent a replacement unit quickly. The new hardware addressed previous design flaws, and the fingerprint recognition finally worked consistently well.

Using the lock in my garage was convenient, but I found that it occasionally struggled to reprogram after the batteries died. On the positive side, the auto-unlock feature worked effectively as I approached the door with my smartphone, adding to the overall convenience.

Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • Convenient keyless entry with multiple unlocking methods.
  • High accuracy and responsiveness of fingerprint recognition.
  • Robust build quality and attractive design.
  • Excellent customer service and support.
  • Easy installation process for DIY enthusiasts.

Cons:

  • Occasional unresponsiveness and electronic issues reported by users.

Overall, the ULTRALOQ U Bolt Pro Wifi Smart Lock with WiFi Bridge is an impressive addition to any smart home setup. While it has a few drawbacks, such as occasional electronic issues and app performance, its advantages far outweigh the negatives. I would recommend this product to anyone looking for a versatile and high-tech lock solution.

  1. Different models. Update 6/21/21Just purchased a 3rd Ubolt Pro but this time with a WIFI bridge. The dead bolt on this new one is phyisicaly different from my other two which suggests this company is continuing to improve on there product.. Connection through internet is not the fastest but so far reliable. Fortunately for me since purchasing this 3rd Ubolt I found that my 2nd Ubolt that had the constant blinking when unlocked was actually a malfunction. Blinking while unlocked should only happen when auto lock is enabled. (Doesn’t state this in in manual). I suppose this explaines why that Ubolt’s battery wasn’t lasting long. That lock was fixed by a manual firmware update that was provided to me after I inquired about the lock’s blinking behavior. I no longer use these in Stand Alone mode. They are much easier to manage using the app. My 2 older locks are going strong and I am hoping this new one will do the job just as well. Ultraloq customer service is quick to respond even though it is through email. They have not had any trouble resolving any of my issues. Great product and company!Update: 1/6/21I wanted to wait a bit before updating to make sure the replacement part held up… So a little over 1 month after installing the flat buttoned version it failed. The fingerprint reader died but the physical buttons and of the key still worked. I sent a warranty repair request via email to the company and recieved a replacement part within a few days to a week. Response time was quick and painless. So far so good with the replacement fingerprint reader. Ill keep updating if anything else goes wrong.————————-Original review:Its such a good lock I bought a second one. To my suprise the second one is physically different. There obviously has been a hardware update. But there is no mentioned of it on the manufacturer’s website or the Amazon website. I included pictures of both locks. I’m assuming the lock with the indented inside handle and clear plastic number buttons is the older version and the one with the flat inside lock handle and black rubber numbers is the new version. Both locks are packaged with the same clear button version pictured on the box. Aside from the physical differences they also have firmware version differences. The clear button lock has a version number of V1.51 and the black rubber button is V1.55, both show to have the latest firmware when using the phone app. They work the same on the app and in standalone mode. The only functional difference I have noticed is that the black rubber buttoned lock flashes a red light every 3 to 5 seconds when in the unlocked position. The clear buttoned one does not flash its light when left unlocked. What interested me most was the finger print reader which works incredibly well and fast. I primary have these locks on standalone mode and have no interest in remotely unlocking from my phone, but I did play with the Bluetooth phone app and it does work fast and easily works within 30 feet very reliably.I really wish I knew there were two different versions because I do like how the other one flashes while unlocked. It is hard to see the lock position at night with dim light due to the whole thing being black but the red light makes it very clear it is open. I am hoping both versions of this lock are equally durable and last for many years, only time will tell. Over all at the moment I feel this is a good buy no matter which one you end up with.

  9. TLDR: It may have its few drawbacks, but they all have solutions amd our Ultraloq Pro with Wifi bridge has been an amazing addition to our home!I did quite a bit of research in finding a smart lock that was reasonably priced, a good fit with our technologically-diverse family, had Google Home integration, was compatible with our different needs and first and foremost reliable. I was willing to chose outside of the big names, but not to go for something that felt downright dodgy. Well, I believe we hit the jackpot in this case!Their website and videos are great to confirm compatibility with your existing door and jamb and to help with installation. If you aren’t sure you can replace a deadbolt, their documentation should give you the confidence to try!The hardware itself and the functionality we are using are no less than awesome!- The fingerprint reader needs you to really take a good first reading all around your finger to work well, but when you do it is very reliable.- The temporary guest feature is very nice whenever someone comes to take care of the kids or the house in general. In this case, we use a code and it’s a breeze. We’ve only ever had amazed feedback from those who’ve used it…- The fact that there is a backup key is a great backup for some, but the deadbolt hasn’t yet made us use it.- The micro-usb plug under the deadbolt to provide emergency power is a great touch too! Definitely more my style…- The battery life is pretty good with our Eneloop AA batteries (always 4+ months with daily use) and the low-battery signal is early enough that it shouldn’t leave you stranded anyway if you want to count on it instead of replacing the batteries on a schedule.- We live in a northern climate and the deadbolt never skipped a beat despite the cold or humidity.Drawbacks exist, but they are few and far between and have a solution:- The original installation hardware we received was a little difficult to install without pinching the data cable between the interior module and the exterior one. It did cause glitches to start happening over time in that original unit, but the costumer service we received from Eli in particular when that happened was awesome! The second unit we were sent had the updated installation hardware and I uninstalled the lock after a few weeks to ensure the cable wasn’t pinched and it’s been faultless since it was installed 4 months ago.I do want to emphasize that these glitches never actually left us stranded outside, but they did get annoying especially the beeping in the middle of the night, but the new unit NEVER did it.- When you have really done your fingerprint properly, the target being rather small isn’t really a problem, but fail to do it right and it can get annoying.- Setting up fingerprints does take a while, which just tends to accentuate the previous issue. Patience is key here, you want to plan a calm 5-10 minutes without interruptions per person.- Something that isn’t Ultraloq’s fault, but needs to be mentioned: Google Home now requires a pin be entered to unlock a door… I understand the extra security this provides and don’t want to minimize it, but having to enter or speak out a pin when running a routine really goes against the whole automation concept that is so appealing with a smart lock.- And finally, the current generation is only compatible with Android phones and Google home or Alexa devices, but the word on the street is that the next one will have iOS integration! All in all, we are very happy with this deadbolt, especially since we have received the updated hardware back in August of 2023.

  13. they work great until they don’t. I bought this to put on my garage which is attached to my house. All my tools are in the garage and I wanted something that I didn’t have to rekey every time someone left and I added someone new who needed access. This door is opened and locked many times each day.Plus I don’t carry my phone around when I am working. Tried that twice needed a new phone after two days both times.Lock installed easily and programmed easily the first time.then the electronics went. After multiple emails the company sent me a new part.Installed the new part and reprogramed it. No issues – do it at night the lights are hard to see if the lock is in direct sunlight. When the batteries died the problems started. It would not reprogram. So against my better judgement i installed the app. Surprise the app programmed it easily. Then it went wonky again. Brand new batteries dead; though the app says they are fine. Can’t reprogram from the app. it opens and closes the lock from the inside but not the outside. It’s Saturday at 5 so I had a beer and gave up.Day two – i delete the app and reinstall on two different phones. Then things get really weird and I discover all the glitches in the app. Plus i’m on my computer just shaking my head.I have every part and the extra key in the house next to the door inside. It’s 90+F, it’s south FL and it is June so this makes sense, and the door is in full sun. Guess i should have taped the key to my forehead.Wind blows the door shut and the door locks, while I’m outside trying to read the directions on my phone in the shade.App tells me that i have to remove the battery cover because the finger print feature isn’t set. I had that set to off. I hate apps. I liked this lock because you didn’t need an app and a mobile phone to use it.The only two tools available to me were a big crowbar, a sawzall and I used a 10 lb barbell as a hammer to remove the door frame. So when it works it works great. When it doesn’t make sure you have everything outside, someone inside or all the other doors in your house open.Oh beware of auto iPhone updates. I may not be able to blame every problem with the app on Ulog. That’s why i deleted and redownloaded the app.The company has the best customer service I have ever encountered. They replace the lock without question even though I was a month past the warrenty.

  15. they work great until they don’t. 17. Update: New Hardware is excellent (issue with previous design). Update: The service group was very responsive to my Amazon review (below). They agreed to send me new hardware. The replacement lock is MUCH better. The previous unit, upon removal, showed a wire was chafing. This was an issue with the previous design and the wire hitting the plate. The new plate has a different design to alleviate this issue. I’ve also found the fingerprint FINALLY works perfectly for me. Hope this lasts for a long time, but initially very impressed with the new hardware and appreciate the excellent product support.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Original Postin ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Really wanted to like this lock. Set up easily, the app was good (not great). Setting up lock for visitors (friends staying at house, dog walker, housecleaner) is easy and seamless. However, two major issues:1. It just stops working occasionally. I’d say once every few months. Becomes completely non-responsive, no lights turn on, and cannot control with the app. We basically have to use an emergency key to get into the house, take out the batteries for a few seconds, and on reset works fine. Just unacceptable for a main house lock.2. The fingerprint option sucks. My wife gets her to work but almost always takes 3 or 4 tries to unlock; I’ve given up as my fingerprint works for a day or two and then stops.Going to start looking for another lock!
