**UPDATE #2 – 9/4/16** — Better Breath After Just 1 Week. My dog’s breath has significantly improved after 1 week of using this water additive!! He is usually very picky when it comes to different flavors (ie: food, treats) but he seems to love the flavor of this additive. He hasn’t been drinking any more or less than usual since adding this to his water, either. His water bowl holds probably closer to 20oz but I just use 1 cap full of the additive per bowl (which is the recommended amount for 16oz of water) because it’s easier than trying to measure exactly, and we’ve still seen great results. It seems like 1 bottle of water additive will last at least 2 months or so, which makes this a very affordable option, too.I chose the water additive with the added skin and coat benefits because my dog tends to get bad skin allergies, especially in the summer and fall months. His skin isn’t bad now, and it’s probably too early to tell if this will be of benefit to his skin. However, his breath is DEFINITELY MUCH better than it was just 1 week ago.I also just bought the teeth cleaning/plaque removing gel by Tropiclean to supplement this water additive and improve his oral hygiene, too (Tropiclean Fresh Breath Plaque Remover Pet Clean Teeth Gel 4oz) — have used it twice now (once daily x2 days) and my dog doesn’t mind the flavor of the gel, either.Great product!! Highly recommend! (For reference, we have a 90lb 3.5-year-old golden retriever.)**UPDATE – 4/20/16**We finished the bottle of Fresh Breath Water Additive about 5 days ago and I kept forgetting to order a new bottle. My boyfriend was petting our dog today and said to me, “What is up with his breath for the last few days? He was doing so well and then all of a sudden, the last few days it has stunk like crazy!” Then he asked me if I was still adding “the bad breath killer stuff” to his water and I ended up confessing that I kept forgetting to order it. :/I didn’t truly appreciate how well this stuff works until we stop using it for a few days!! Wow!!!! I went to order another bottle of the same product (with the skin & coat additives) but noticed that the price had gone up since I originally purchased it (almost double). I then saw the Tropiclean Fresh Breath Water Additive without the extra skin/coat ingredients (Tropiclean Fresh Breath Plaque Remover Pet Water Additive 33.8oz), which is more than double the volume at about the same price, so I ended up ordering that instead. I started my dog on a skin/coat and hip/joint supplement a few weeks ago, so I figured there really was no point to spending the extra money.I will update again after he has been on the new fresh breath additive for a while to share the experience and any differences.**UPDATE #2 – 9/4/16**I kept forgetting to update my review again (sorry!), but I finally remembered after I just added yet another bottle of this Fresh Breath Water Additive to my cart. We found that the Tropiclean additive without the Skin + Coat did NOT work nearly as well as this one with the additive, so I went back to this version permanently. Also, the effects do not wain over time as long as you continue to use it – our golden retriever’s skin has not shown any signs of flaking/dandruff and/or irritation since going back to this Skin + Coat Additive version. We still LOVE this product and HIGHLY recommend it to other dog parents!!!!!!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂
This really works within days. I got a rescue dog a few years back, he is a shih-poo with an underbite where his bottom teeth stick out and are always dirty and his breath was always foul. I have taken him and my other dog to have his teeth cleaned which is expensive x’s 2. I purchased this bottle a few years ago and found it in my cabinet the other day (unused). I figured I would use it since I had it. 3 days ago, all viewable bottom teeth were black and his top teeth were funky too, especially the fangs. At that time, I did not moved either dog’s cheek skin back to look at his back or side teeth though, but I know they were bad because they were both overdue for their cleaning and their breath was horrid. My other dog had some dark spots on his fangs as well and I was going to make an appointment for a cleaning after Christmas. I just shook this in their water bowl (did not squeeze the bottle) and they did not seem to mind it at all as they both drank it. The bowl is empty today so I was just about to fill it up again and I decided to look at their teeth wondering if this actually did anything for them and if I should use it in this new bowl fill up. YES YES YES!! I am speechless!! Their teeth look as I took them to the doctor for a cleaning!! Their breath does not smell like rotting fish!!! Their breath smells like nothing as my dog kissed me. This is incredible!! Amazing!! The shih-poo’s teeth are beautiful. The other dog has a bit on funk on one fang only. I moved his skin to took at this back/side teeth….CLEAN!!! I am very confident that the tiny bit of funk on his one tooth will be removed with this change of water. I don’t know why I never used this for the past few years, but I will say I am glad I found it cleaning out my cabinet and it DOES WORK!! I was never expecting to write this review and I couldn’t even remember where I even bought it. I usually buy everything on Amazon so I searched my order history today and there it was. I bought this 4 years ago and it got pushed into the back of my cabinet, lost and forgotten……. I really wasn’t expecting anything to happen by using this so I never bothered to take any pictures to prove what I’m writing is true and accurate. I wish I did because I can’t believe it myself!! I’m in shock! I don’t brush their teeth because they won’t let me. I don’t do the greenie thing either because they like their tiny milkbones. This is a big bottle and will last a while.
Dogs Don’t Mind, and It Freshens Breath. From the moment I added this into my dog’s water fountain, they nor any visiting dogs have raised their nose to it, they just drink as normal. The bottle says it could take up to 14 days for breath results, and that was very accurate. Almost gave up on it after a week but kept going, and after some time that I even forgot my dog ever had rancid breath! The bottle uses cap sizes for portions and it’s strange, I portion one teaspoon per cup of water, personally.
Excellent product. My 14 yr old has great teeth since I started using this product. Her breath is OK, I don’t care about it. Don’t balk at the cost. It’s cheap when compared to a teeth cleaning at the Vet’s. Plus, I don’t want her to under go anesthesia, as it is harsh on the dog’s organs detoxifying the anesthetic. Dogs are just like humans only they have a higher metabolic rate.
Great company. Best pricing around
Keeps their mouth fresh. Keeps the dog breath from being stinky and really helps minimize the tarter. The dogs happily drink their water with this additive in it. It’s so easy to use!
Product approved by Veterinary Oral Health Council. Give this product to my two dogs. Helps keep their breath fresh and teeth cleaner.
Cannot beat the price. I purchased this specifically because it is endorsed by veterinarians and the price was unbelievable. I know a lot of people have reviewed this and said that it makes their dogs throw up, gives them diarrhea etc but I feel like those people aren’t necessarily weaning their dogs onto this product which you really need to do. Just like food, you can’t just change their food, you have to wean them. That said they have been taking this product in their water quite well for several weeks, but the past few days, one of my dogs has been pooping uncontrollably in the house, and throwing up a bit. She has a very sensitive tummy and I feel like maybe the full strength of this product might be too hard on her. It also may have nothing to do at all with it however we are going to stop using it briefly and see if that helps her stomach. I will try to remember to come back and update this. Additionally I cannot speak to how well it actually works. Again a lot of people rated this product quite low because of the fact that their dogs still has tartar. It’s not designed to get rid of existing tartar it is designed to prevent more and since I haven’t had the dogs to the vet since we bought this product, I can’t really speak to whether or not it’s preventing tartar buildup. We shall see!One final note for the reviewers who said that their dogs couldn’t stand the smell of it or the taste of it, my dogs didn’t even notice it. It doesn’t have a smell and I know I don’t have a dog’s nose, but they didn’t seem to care at all.
Works fairly well- you can give more than 2 cups a day. In her old age, my dogs breath has gotten awful. Her breath didnt used to stink, and we do clean her teeth regularly. Regardless, it stinks! This water additive works to freshen my her breath. It’s not back to where it was, but it’s significantly better.About the dosage: our bottle reads “Add 1/2 capful (5ml) to 8oz of water, twice a day.” Based on other things I saw in the description and their website, I decided to email Tropiclean to ask. Here is their response:”The directive is to add ½ capful PER every 8 oz of water that you use each time you change the water bowl. Most people change the water bowl twice per day. If your dog’s water bowl holds 8 cups of water (64 oz) then the amount of solution required is 4 full capfuls, provided the water bowl is filled up all of the way. Adding only ½ capful for 64 oz would dilute the product to the point of ineffectiveness.”
Great results. After using a different brand of water additive for about two years, I was still not seeing the results I had hoped for in our fur baby’s teeth. Brushing alone wasn’t enough either. When the brand I was using became unavailable except in gallon size, I decided to try TropiClean Fresh Breath. I have not regretted that decision. It really made a difference in our little guy’s teeth! It’s a tad more expensive in that you use a little more of it than the other brand called for, but in my opinion, well worth it.
Halleluja. My dog’s breath smelled worse than her a$$. It was terrible. If my dog was in the back seat of my car and panting, we would have to put the windows down because her breath would make the whole car smell like a bloated dead body. We have tried chews, mint treats, sprays, even brushing her teeth; we even went to a canine shaman to help cleanse her mouth and spirit, and none of it worked long term. After just two days of putting this stuff in her bowl, the bad breath is gone completely. I now no longer have to avoid my dog’s kisses so that i don’t dry heave. If your furry friend also has breath that could kill a small child you should definitely purchase this product.
This stuff works. This product is amazing! Our dogs’ breath is nice and their teeth stay cleaner.
Dogs breath and dental hygiene improved. Our dogs don’t seem to mind this water additive and it softened their plaque significantly so brushing is a breeze. It also helps a lot with their dog breath. It’s very effective.
Amazing product. It definitely works perfectly well. The first time I put it in my dog’s water, it worked perfectly to remove his bad breath and even helped clean his teeth.
Easy to use- helps keep my dog’s breath fresh. First of all, I know this is safe to use for my dog because of the VOHC (Veterinary Oral Health Council) seal of approval. My vet told me to look for that on any product for dental care for my dog. I am not convinced it does that much to reduce plaque or tarter or actually whiten my dog’s teeth (hence 4 stars instead of 5), but I really do think it keeps my dog’s breath fresh enough so that she does not smell like “dog breath”! It is easy to use and this large bottle is a pretty good value as you don’t need to use much, so it lasts a long time.
