The third ingredient is sweet potato. Sweet potatoes are a gluten-free source of. The first ingredient in this dog food is buffalo. Although it is a quality item, raw buffalo contains about 80% water. After cooking, most of that moisture is lost, reducing the meat content to just a fraction of its original weight. After processing, this item would probably account for a smaller part of the total content of the finished product. The second ingredient is lamb meal. Lamb meal is considered a meat concentrate and contains nearly 300% more protein than fresh lamb. The third ingredient is sweet potato. Sweet potatoes are a gluten-free source of complex carbohydrates in a dog food. They are naturally rich in dietary fiber and beta carotene. The fourth ingredient is egg product, an unspecified (wet or dry?) form of shell-free eggs. Quality can vary significantly. Lower grade egg product can even come from commercial hatcheries — from eggs that have failed to hatch. In any case, eggs are easy to digest and have an exceptionally high biological value. The fifth ingredient is pea protein, what remains of a pea after removing the starchy part of the vegetable.Even though it contains over 80% protein, this ingredient would be expected to have a lower biological value than meat. And less costly plant-based products like this can notably boost the total protein reported on the label — a factor that must be considered when judging the meat content of this dog food. The sixth ingredient includes peas. Peas are a quality source of carbohydrates. And like all legumes, they’re rich in natural fiber. However, peas contain about 25% protein, a factor that must be considered when judging the meat content of this dog food. The seventh ingredient is potato. Potatoes can be considered a gluten-free source of digestible carbohydrates. Yet with the exception of perhaps their caloric content, potatoes are of only modest nutritional value to a dog.The eighth ingredient is canola oil. Unfortunately, canola can be a controversial item. That’s because it can sometimes (but not always) be derived from genetically modified rapeseed.Yet others cite the fact canola oil can be a significant source of essential omega-3 fatty acids. In any case, plant-based oils like canola are less biologically available to a dog than fish oil as a source of quality omega-3 fats. The ninth ingredient is tomato pomace. Tomato pomace is a controversial ingredient, a by-product remaining after processing tomatoes into juice, soup and ketchup. Many praise tomato pomace for its high fiber and nutrient content, while others scorn it as an inexpensive pet food filler.Just the same, there’s probably not enough tomato pomace here to make much of a difference. From here, the list goes on to include a number of other items. But to be realistic, ingredients located this far down the list (other than nutritional supplements) are not likely to affect the overall rating of this product. With four notable exceptions…First, flaxseed is one of the best plant sources of healthy omega-3 fatty acids. Provided they’ve first been ground into a meal, flax seeds are also rich in soluble fiber. However, flaxseed contains about 19% protein, a factor that must be considered when judging the actual meat content of this dog food.Next, salmon oil is naturally rich in the prized EPA and DHA type of omega-3 fatty acids. These two high quality fats boast the highest bio-availability to dogs and humans.Depending on its level of freshness and purity, salmon oil should be considered a commendable addition. In addition, chicory root is rich in inulin, a starch-like compound made up of repeating units of carbohydrates and found in certain roots and tubers. Not only is inulin a natural source of soluble dietary fiber, it’s also a prebiotic used to promote the growth of healthy bacteria in a dog’s digestive tract. And lastly, this food contains chelated minerals, minerals that have been chemically attached to protein. This makes them easier to absorb. Chelated minerals are usually found in better dog foods.
PET LOVERS: PLEASE READ THE SAFETY TIP IN MY REVIEW. The media could not be loaded. VIDEO INCLUDED WITH THIS REVIEW ♥️I’ll buy this again because:1. BIGGER BAG: 28 lb bag instead of 22 lb bag (most dog foods offer 22 lbs as their largest size bag). Same price as other comparable 22 lb premium dog foods. The bigger size makes it great for multi-dog homes.2. LONGEVITY: A 28 lb bag lasts about a month for 2 adult 55-60 lbs doggies.3. QUALITY: First 3 ingredients are meat. All ingredients are nutrient-dense, no fillers, contains active probiotics. The list of ingredients is pretty impressive for the price.4. DOGS APPROVE: All my pups love the taste, they scarf it down and look at me like “Ma, where’s the rest?” Check out the cute video attached to this review!5. $$$ BUDGET FRIENDLY: I am a long-time owner of “special needs” dogs with sensitivities and an RN with a passion for nutrition. Anyone who has special needs pups knows the increased expenses! Yes, there are higher quality foods, the freeze-dried foods have higher nutritional bioavailability. However, most of us can’t afford dog food that cost more $$ per pound than ribeye steak!Friendly tip: this is not grain-free, it’s “grain-friendly”.****PLEASE READ THIS:Latest research is showing that grain-free diets are possibly linked to DCM (HEART FAILURE) due to the high amount of peas, lentils, and/or potatoes. The FDA ISSUED A WARNING regarding grain-free dog food, advising they should be avoided unless your pup has been tested for/diagnosed with a specific grain allergy. I have a medical background and after much research, I found enough compelling data to support this FDA recommendation. I have stopped feeding my babies grain-free food. I am sharing this information so that other pet parents won’t have to do the footwork (and won’t have to loose their best friend).I love sharing a great find with other puppy obsessed pet parents. And if you’re reading pet food reviews on Amazon, then you’re obviously just as obsessed as I am!I hope this review was helpful in answering some of your questions! ♥️
we are very very happy with this new dog food Call of the Wild. This is Antoinette Jackson. I am writing to let you know of the new change in our dogs FOOD. WE had been on Canada Day through ALL our Goldens, and I was a breeder at one time and always swore by Canidae our dogs got nothing else no other dog food and all that time. It has been well over 15 years Well there’s been a change and it’s a distinct change. We noticed that our seven year old Golden male had begun eating bowls of Canidae dog food more than triple the AMOUNT. We carefully watched this for four solid months. It seemed like he was eating cardboard or sawdust, there seemed to be nothing in the food nutritionally because he never seemed to get full and the more we put in the more he ate. THIS has never been true for our dog and we began thinking something is very strange with the Canada. They’ve been changing the size, the bags, they’ve been changing a lot of things and whatever they have done is not beneficial – not at all. Meanwhile, a beautiful, black and white cat has since made our home his and we wondered what kind of food we should start giving him, After much discussion and talking with reputable feed and animal stores, WE went with CALL OF THE WILD SALMON for the CAT. The cat seemed to thrive on it. His coat became beautiful and shiny and he was gaining weight. Plus he likes the food. Now back to our Golden, we decided that we would put Mauna Kea also on CALL OF THE WILD the Buffalo and VENISON. WE were able to get a 38 pound bag and for as much as Mauna Kea was eating with Canidae and going through food like it was a water. WE found that we aren’t doing any worse for the cost with call of the wild even though it is more expensive. This is the first week so we’re weaning him over seven days and we have noticed a big difference in how much food he is eating because now he’s getting real nutritional value. I put in 1 cup of the Call of The Wild 1 cup of the Canadae. He no longer eats like he’s starving to death, and there’s still food left in his bowl, which was never the case with Canadae the past 4 months.During this time we also took MaunaKea to his vet for a thorough check up. Which was several hundred dollars. He of course, came out with a clean bill of health, no worms, no anything just a HEALTHY golden retriever.I don’t know how to get through to Canada on an email, but I certainly do hope that you will take note of this and pass it on to the people who should be aware of it.Canidae has left us with a great big disappointment in our lives because we really relied on it. AS a matter of fact when we moved back to Hawaii on the BIG ISLAND where we owned a home they had never heard of it. WE HAD TO ALWAYS SPECIAL ORDER it. BY the time we left years later everybody was coming in and buying it, and they always had it on stock they said it was one of their biggest sellers.Mahalo Antoinette Jackson

Quantity. I need a bigger bag than the 28lb I have 4 dogs they go thru it in less than 2 weeks
Will he eat it. I was sent puppy food and opened it before I realized what it was. I mixed it with his Purina1 to avoid quick switch and he gobbled it. He’s not so enthusiastic after a couple of days not add ins.
After switching my white Havanese to this dog food he no longer has red tearing in his eyes. My dog loves this food and I only feed him 1/8 cup morning and night. He no longer has runny red eyes and red saliva from under his tongue. I did not know this would happen, I just wanted a grain free diet. His coat is beautiful and he is full of energy. I am so glad that his eyes are not running anymore. I shared this information with another person that had a white havanese dog. She switched to this food and when I saw her again she told me she was very happy because she no longer has to clean up the tear stains. Very good product.
great product. My Boxer absolutely loves this food, shes a picky eater so im grateful for finding this brand

Dogs loved it immediately. Even my picky eater dove into this. The quality is excellent, just wishing that dog food hasn”t become more expensive than what I put on my table. I have to mix it with some lesser costly brands, because with three giant breed dogs, I couldn’t hope to use this exclusively. There are a variety of protein sources and no garbage, corn, wheat, soy…..great product but a bit pricey
Leo’s favorite. Leo is a double doodle and he had a change in dog food. After one bag my son had to go back to buying Taste of the wild. A Double Doodles favorite
It’s not cheap. …but it’s not as expensive as some brands and all three dogs love it! They will even eat it dry. it arrived quickly and was well-packed. The grain free aspect is really helpful for our Weimaraner who has a sensitive digestive system. We would recommend it.
Is soo beneficial for your dog. My dog has been on taste of the wild his entire life, at first you see the price and get a little intimidated by it but compared to other healthier dog foods out there this one is actually cheaper! It has a variety of flavors cause we don’t eat the same thing why should they and it does wonders for there coat seriously his coat is soo shiny we think sometimes he has water on him but he doesn’t
So happy to find this dog food. When our dog was diagnosed with lots of food allergies we worried all the specialty dogfoods were going to be financially draining. Then we found this very affordable salmon dry kibble. Our picky dog loves it and we can relax knowing she will not be scratching her skin raw. The fish in her diet now is also resulting in her coat looking so much healthier and shiny.
My pup likes it. Pup loves it so I do also. Never an issue with this food. Good price, good food, what more can be said.
Our Yorkie has eaten this food since she was born. Our fur baby has had Taste of the Wild since she was 6 weeks old. She started on it and has eaten it since and it has provided healthy SAFE nutrition, and she still loves it as well as she did when she was tiny. She is still tiny, but she does enjoy this. I like this food because it is MADE IN THE USA with American products and offers a safe food for our baby. We love our baby and want the best for her and a safe food that is why we have continued to purchase Taste of the Wild.
Good delivery on time. Dog likes the food. Like ingredients.
