Smarter Life / Black Mountain comparison. I recently purchased a 65cm Smarter Life exercise ball to use as a deak chair. As I was useing it on a tile floor I put a mat under it to give it protection. All went well for about a week when to my horrorI I heard the sound of hissing air being expelled from the ball. Inspection revealed a small hole in the ball that resulted from either a defect or me rolling the ball over some sharp object (I very much suspect the latter). I e-mailed the company to ask if there was a warranty. A gentleman named Tim wrote me back asking for the amazon purchase number which I duely sent him. Shortly afterwards another message said they were sending me a replacement, no questions asked. For customer service they deserve 5 stars plus.After my first e-mail I had no idea if they would replace it or tell me to get lost. Assuming the worst I looked around on amazon for a cheaper replacement and settled on the Black Mountain ball and for further protection I ordered the Cando ball base. Having tried all three products I thought I would give a comparative review….As far as functionality goes both ball work equally well. The material the Black Mountain ball is made of seems remarkably like the beach ball you had as a kid. The Smarter Life ball seems to have more substance to the material. It seems more rubbery and thicker. The Black mountain ball claims a bursting strength of 2000 lb. Fortunately I weigh just a little shy of that so I can’t put it to the test, but so far so good and I really can’t imagine that the Smarter Life ball would be any less strong.Both balls come with their various but different accessories. The Black Mountain ball apart from the plugs and pump has a small fork to get under the plug to remove it should you need to put more air in it; so far I have not had need for it but in a pinch I find a flat bladed screwdriver (if you’re careful) will do the trick. As for the pump, I found it perfectly adequate for the job. A lot of people complain that it’s a little on the cheap side. You pump, air gets sucked in through one side and out the other and the ball inflates. What more do you want for $15.50? A motorized pump?The Smarter Life ball comes with 2 plugs, a hand pump and a tape measure. It’s the tape measure I liked. Its just a strip of plastic with a hole in each end. You wrap the tape around the ball and pump till the two holes align. That’s when the circumference reaches about 80 inches. The reason I liked it so much is that I pumped the ball up till I thought it was pretty darned hard and I thought it still looked small. I wrapped the tape around the ball and still had 6 or 8 inches of slack. At this stage I began to think that thet sent me either the wrong ball or the wrong tape. Their balls are color coded (65cm is purple – and a nice shade of purple) so I knew I had the right ball. So I thought I’ll just keep pumping till the holes align and if the ball bursts in the process I’ll complain. Well, it did not burst and it was exactly the right height for my desk as is the Black Mountain ball (I’m 5’10”). Any time you need to check the circumference or put more air in the ball you have an exact measurement.The Cando base does give me some protection. The ball/base relationship is not a tight fit so you do have some wriggle room to move about but you can’t move your pelvis around and have the ball move freely on the floor Mostly if you wish to change your position in relation to the desk you have to lift your body off the ball move it and then reseat yourself. The unit is one piece and I’m quite happy with it. Hope this helps somebody decide.

So far, so good. Ordered the 65cm Silver and I’m pleased with the quality of the ball, pump, tape, etc (no missing parts) that arrived quickly. I had emailed SmarterLife offline with a question about the material and they responded promptly. Can’t speak to durability yet because I’ve had it only a week. The tape was labeled 65cm which gave me confidence that I received the correct tape for the size ball I ordered (some reviewers reported problems with this). The inflation process was awkward to say the least. Instructions are to inflate it 80% of the way on day 1 and after 24 hours complete the inflation to 100%. There’s no 80% mark on the tape and no way to identify 80% so I had to guesstimate. Using the removal tool to get the plug out on day 2 was painful because when holding the ball near the plug with my left hand and trying to maneuver the removal tool under the plug with my right hand I inadvertently jabbed the fingers of my left hand, repeatedly (oww). Eventually I got the plug out without drawing blood and inflated the ball to 100%. Tip: While the pump is inserted in the ball, if you need to take a break or pause to straighten out the tape, you need to hold the handle of the pump UP. If you hold the handle down, your hard-earned air will leak back out of the ball. This was my first experience inflating an exercise ball so I don’t know if the SmarterLife inflation process is better, worse or the same as for any other exercise ball. The ball smelled vinyl-y if I put my face right on it but the odor has dissipated quite a bit after a week and I’m hopeful it’ll dissipate completely. The 65cm size seems perfect for me (5’8”). So far, this SmarterLife exercise ball is fun to exercise with, versatile, and I would recommend it to others.

CM vs IN. I have Multiple Sclerosis with the result that I make frequent visits for physical therapy. Many of the exercises I can do at home with the proper equipment. At my last series of visits the therapists recommended that I get one of these balls. When I asked the size, they said 45-50 in. Now I know the difference between cm & in, but ordered the cm by mistake anyway. The result is that I need a bigger ball. I decided to keep this one rather than send it back. I was just going to order one of the correct size, however, no one has the over 100 cm ball that equals 45-50 in. I will continue to look. I was blowing this ball up & found it super easy. However, I couldn’t understand how to use some tape that was included. I know it’s purpose is to keep the ball from leaking air, but it just isn’t clear to me. I put the ball aside for now & will pick it up again in awhile. If I still can’t figure it out, I will involve the husband.

Amazing customer service. I received my stability ball promptly and intended to use it during pregnancy. My husband followed the directions to get it to the correct size but it wasn’t inflating. After contacting the company, the owner himself reached out and troubleshooted with me. When that didn’t resolve the issue, he literally gave me his cell phone number and my husband called him. He was able to ascertain that the pump was faulty and he immediately sent a new pump (personally) that arrived days later. After that, my husband was able to fully inflate the ball within about 2 minutes. Will definitely be a repeat shopper and I’m still amazed by the level of customer service. Aside from that, the ball is very well made, no off-gassing, and perfect for pregnancy and beyond.

Smaller than I expected. I bought this ball for exercise. I’m 5’3 and bought the 55cm ball, but it’s too small for me. I was going to send it back but before I could deflate it, my 3 year old granddaughter put stickers all over it. She now uses it to sit on while watching tv, bouncing on. This ball is very sturdy, inflates easily and had no strange smells. I would recommend buying this ball but going up in size.

Best Premium Exercise Ball on the market & it does not smell like most of the others. If you are looking for an exercise ball, then SmarterLife Workout Exercise Ball is the way to go!This is a premium exercise ball, not a cheap thin, unstable ball… It does not smell, is skin friendly and you can defiantly tell the difference. I go to Physical Therapy with a major hospital where they have all kinds of balls, and this one is hands down the best. It came with a hand pump which works very well and blows up easily, just follow the instructions.They have all the sizes and lots of colors to choose from.Also, the customer service is Excellent they are quick to respond and very knowledgeable. The Smartlife Workout Exercise Ball is the only choice.

Sturdy and exactly what I needed. I was a little unsure what size to buy & didn’t see a guide on the Amazon site, so I posted a photo with the size guide on the box. I’m 5’7” & the 65” ball is perfect for me. The inflation was a 2-day process, but the instructions (see my photo) are extremely clear and easy. I like that they included a measure tape to give me confidence that I inflated it just the right amount.The orange is by much prettier than I expected. It’s got a nice sheen to it, which actually keeps you from slipping on the material. The ball seems sturdy and tough. My physical therapist was excited that I got this and it’s been great. Low impact for stretches and strength work, but surprisingly it’s also helping me work on my balance!

Great exercise ball. I followed instructions on how to inflate and I’m loving this ball! It’s sturdy and feels so supportive and comfy. I enjoy the pink color!
