  1. 4.5 of 5 stars. Great for communicating while cycling or anywhere remotely. Got these Cobra Act120B Walkie Talkies for use primarily when bicycling and after 3 mos of use still having a blast with them. It’s REALLY nice to be able to talk to your fellow rider and adds a fun dimension of cycling. The signal is clear and there is very minimal voice distortion, but since it does occasionally occur I deducted .5 from the review. And you don’t have to be “line of sight” for a clear signal. Have used in heavy woods and around curves or over hills with zero issues. I’m not sure what the total range would be but definitely clear within 1 1/2 miles or so. The battery life is great and easily get 10 hours with a bit to spare. They are compact and lightweight and easily clip on a garment and stay there. They are well made and should last a very long while. And although our primary use is while cycling, also use at home a lot. I frequently am at work in the workshop and wife in the house and we use these instead of using text feature on the cell phone – much nicer to have an interactive conversation without messing with cell phones all the time. And although we don’t have children, these things would be a great gift for kids. They would have a blast with them and with the low price makes this very doable.Overall a well designed and fun product that I highly recommend.

  3. Lifesaver for staying connected with ill spouse. I am the caregiver for my husband, who is quite ill, and I needed a system that would allow him to reach me easily in an emergency if I wasn’t in the room. We used two medical alert systems over a few years but he would forget he was wearing a device to call for help. If he had an emergency, his phone might not be within reach. These walkie talkies have literally changed my life and the way we communicate. I am no longer concerned about working in another part of the house, and the signal reaches through our house walls and into friends’ homes across the street so I can now socialize without making arrangements for a backup person in the house. We wear the walkie talkies all the time. I bought a second set so there is always one set charging, and we switch them out about every 12 hours. The batteries last way longer than that, but we’re safer switching long before the batteries die. My husband now uses the walkie talkie to call me for anything he needs, and he’s so used to using it that it’s automatic for him and I feel sure he will remember to call me if he has an emergency. I couldn’t be more delighted with this solution to a caregiver’s dilemma. I have a level of freedom that is difficult to find in this situation.

  4. Fantastic idea poorly executed. This was exactly what we needed. My husband and I have trouble hearing each other throughout the house, our lives filled with “huh” and “what did you say?”This seemed like the perfect solution to the problem and I still think it is. The problem was just that it was too quiet. We had the volume turned up all the way on both of them and it was fine if we were sitting in two different rooms, doing nothing, trying to talk to each other. but hell we could do that on a phone intercom. We wanted some thing that we could wear roaming around the house so that we could talk to each other while we’re about our activities. This one just didn’t cut it. Fortunately, cobra has another model that we are going to try. What causes me the most out of this is how rare this type of communicator is. As far as we could tell, cobra was the only company that made something like this with one exception. We did find some lanyard style communicators. That would’ve worked well also, but again the sound was just too poor.

  5. False advertisement NOT WATERPROOF. Man these were rock solid awesome radios!Plenty of channels and clear sound and mics.Good range and easy to use.But one slightly drizzling day and they are done!NOT WATER RESISTANTDescription says “Waterproof” but that is absolutely false advertisement! It was hardly rain so much as heavy drizzle. Had one on my backpack strap and just walking from the office to my unit was all it took. Was maybe a 2min walk but enough rain exposure to kill the mic on one of them.Sucks. These were so perfect for LE K9 use.I would put one on my dog’s collar, just chirp for him to turn his head, I give directions and he went.I was actually showing our entire K9 team how to go, what I was calling, Leash-less Searches. These were so perfect on size and being discreetly attached to my K9s collar. But 2min in the drizzling rain ended that.I’d buy again for sure, but ONLY if NOT being used in any moisture conditions.

  6. Bad Range. This product claims to reach 12 miles but it’s more like 12 feet, yes I’m exaggerating but the distance does not even come close to 100 yards. Really bad if you are using them on a road trip. Would boy recommend especially for the price. Wish I could return and get my money back.

Better Than Expected For Such A Compact Radio. This pair of radios has proven itself to have, so far, a 2 mile range in a city environment (reaching between each other past tall buildings, metal stud walls, bridges, trains, a large grocery store, and a lot of traffic) with blocked line of sight. It would be interesting to find out how much it can do in an open, nature area. They also communicate with other FRS radios. I definitely recommend these for hiking, woods use, and as an urban intercom.

  8. A must for caravaning. My brother gifted me several years ago with this set of walkie talkies and I really couldn’t figure out when or how I would ever use them. That is until I started traveling. Used these when I traveled cross country in a camper van and my friend drove a car behind me. Communication wasn’t perfect but worked pretty darn good. Was way faster and easier than than trying to use phones. Shared with some friends when they traveled by camper and car and they told me they were a Godsend. So, guess what I got this friend for her birthday? She loves them.

  9. Works well around the house – communication outside of our yard though is not realistic. These are miniature speakers/transmitters that are about 2-1/2 inches in diameter. In my opinion they are a bit too large to wear as lapel communicators and they definitely “tug” on shirts/blouses, especially of lighter weight fabric. But they are the smallest units that I could find that included an internal speaker, with all smaller “walkie-talkies” that I could find requiring headphones or earbuds to work. The sound quality is adequate to get someone’s attention, but often sounds unclear and fuzzy. We use it mostly around the house and the yard to communicate with family members that would otherwise be too far away require shouting at the top of our lungs to reach. We wear them all day long in our relatively large, multi-story house, and when outside, just for communication. The signal is strong enough that we can reach someone in the back yard from the front yard. A 12-mile communication range claim by the manufacturer is really quite laughable with these, and the seller lost a star just for making/listing a claim like that. We live in a relatively flat, hill-free section of town with houses every few hundred feet with a few trees here and there, and communication is acceptable to a range just barely outside the limits of our yard. Realistically, with trees and houses around, I would say you might get a few hundred yards. We get decent signaling throughout the house (over 100 ft through at least two floors) and can even communicate with someone outside in the yard wearing one of these. A negative is that it is actually too easy to switch channels, so if you inadvertently hit the +/- buttons rather than the speaker button, you can easily switch off of the channel you need (and thus prevent communication). This is not a problem for most adults, but kids and the elderly may have problems fumbling around with the units to speak and accidentally hit the wrong buttons. If you are depending on these to make sure you can keep tabs on a kid, or someone elderly or disabled, I would say it could be quite risky as they can easily and inadvertently switch off the designated channel. The manufacturer should take this into consideration and develop some better way to lock the channels in so they cannot be changed inadvertently. The clips on the back are secure, but the units are large enough and heavy enough that if you are at all active it is best to tuck them into a pocket to prevent them falling off. Otherwise they are very likely to be banged around a bit, as even just raking leaves or doing yard work is enough to jostle them to the point of falling off and getting lost. Other than making the units smaller somehow, I don’t know of a solution to this except putting them in a pocket (where they sound a bit muffled, but can still be heard). Overall they do an adequate job of letting us communicate around the house, but beyond that would be iffy.

It works great. quite right slick

  12. Good quality and provides good coverage for what I bought. My wife has severe Rheumatoid Arthritis, and this is a good way for her to keep in touch with me without getting up. They work well in all the distances that we’ve used them. Good quality and good performance.

  13. Not as expected. Purchased these to use for a ski trip so I could stay in contact with the kids, but they did not work as advertised. They worked ok when you were within 50 feet of each other, but after that they would not work. I could see the person in front of my about 100 yards away, and there was just static. The item boasts a range in miles but that is definitely misleading. These were more of a kids toy than something I would rely on for communications with my family.

  14. works good. We wear it around the house, works great. The battery lasts a long time. Not sure about the distance, it will go down to end of driveway and to neighbor’s house, but we tried it on a curvy road with mountains a couple of miles and did not work. Mainly use it for house and yard. The only complaint is the talk button is strategically in a weird spot but other than that no complaints. I did have to return the first one we received because one of them would not go high in volume, but the next ones worked fine.

Great for skiing with a partner. My husband is a lot more proficient at skiing so sometimes we would go on different slopes, these were perfect to communicate since there was no service on the top of the maintain. We can see using them for many other things for sure.
