  1. A few things you should be aware of. ADDED TO REVIEW ON 4/29/18: Some problems with the oven after a few months of use. First, the door hinge got stuck several times causing the door not to close. This issue has been reported in other Amazon reviews of this product. Next, the timer stopped working as well. I contacted Breville and they will be replacing the oven, but I am a little suspicious of quality control after now paying attention to a few negative reviews on this page.——————This was not my first choiceAll I wanted was an air fryer. I was intrigued by the fact that there were appliances that could fry foods without the need for oil. I spent countless hours pouring over reviews of leading air fryer models. I was set on purchasing the most expensive one by Philips at nearly $300.I then read a comment somewhere that if I was going to spend $300 on an air fryer, I might as well spend an extra $100 on the Breville Smart Oven as I would essentially be getting a full-service oven with high-capacity air frying capability.I decided to take the chance on that option despite a few reviews saying that dedicated air fryer appliances did a slightly better job air frying than this particular oven. This was an expensive purchase, no doubt. However, I had an aging Toastmaster oven that was nearly 30 years old but still kickin’ butt! There really was no need to replace it, but you could just imagine what a huge upgrade in modernization this Breville presented. At first, the Breville Smart Oven seems intimidating. There is an elaborate selection screen and lots of dials and buttons. However, just experimenting for several minutes, I was able to quickly figure out the basics. The oven already has temperature and time presets for just about any cooking need you may have. From that point, the dials simply alter heating temperatures and cooking times. Here are some things you should be aware of….There is a design flaw in this oven that puts one at a huge disadvantage if placed on a higher shelf, which I initially did, above my microwave. The door opens top to bottom. This puts a huge strain on anyone placing and removing food from the oven as the door blocks arm movement. It would have been a far better choice for Breville to make a door that swings open from the side.Additionally, if placed on a higher shelf, you cannot read the menu screen. I have read many complaints in Amazon reviews that the screen is unreadable. It is unreadable if placed on a shelf. If you place it on a counter at eye level or below, there is no issue reading the screen. So, the big point here is that you should plan to place this on a counter, not a shelf. The oven works very well in all the cooking tests I put it through. One of the things I am not fond of is that everything starts with a preheat. However, once the preheat is done (and you will get several beeps indicating such), the cooking time begins counting down. This is a pain-in-the-neck because it takes about a minute to grab your food and place it in the oven. At that point, you have to turn the dial back to the proper cooking time that the oven initially sets for you. The best thing Breville could have done is to “freeze” the cooking time once preheat is done and then let the user push the button again to start the actual cooking countdown. So, let me talk about the essential aspect of this oven which is its air frying capability….The Breville includes a large air frying tray that allows air to circulate through its screen door design. It allows an ample amount of french fries to be placed on it.The best advice I can give is to ignore the instructions given on the package of french fries. Use the actual recommended time that Breville programs into its Air Fryer menu selection. You really want to cook it at a slightly lower temperature for a longer period of time. Breville does an excellent job with its preset temperature and time.I tried air frying both Nathans french fries and Orida Tater Tots. The french fries came out very good — crisp on the outside and tender on the inside. However, something about it just didn’t scream “fried” to me. At best, the results were slightly better than just baking it in the oven. They really tasted more like baked fries rather than those fried in oil. The Tater Tots came out better. Those were really crisp on the outside and comparable to those I would cook in a pan with a little bit of oil.I think, overall, the problem with the Breville air fryer function is that you are frying without oil. That can be a good thing, but at the same time, you aren’t getting that flavor which oil provides. If you actually fried french fries in oil and placed them in a blind taste next to the air fryer version, I would bet anyone would instantly pick the fried version as the better tasting product.I haven’t been able to compare the Breville to one of the dedicated Air Fryer appliances, and perhaps they really do a more phenomenal job. The best I can say is that the Breville does a great job at coming close to producing actual fried results, but it won’t pass a blind test against the real thing.Another issue I have is the lack of support from Breville themselves. Before purchasing this oven, I wrote their customer support an email asking how much distance this oven needed to be placed from the back wall. Breville never answered me. That is a bit concerning when this is customer support you may need to rely on should something go wrong with this oven. To answer my question, there are nubs on the back of the oven that gives you proper back wall placement.People have complained that the oven does smoke. I have experienced this with every item I have cooked. For me, it’s no big deal. As long as the oven is working as expected, I don’t care if it gives off a small amount of smoke.I would recommend purchasing and placing baking matts in the bottom grill tray as it can be a chore cleaning without it. You can purchase these matts for dirt cheap on Amazon:https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XKJDYL1/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1Overall, this is a terrific oven, though with some really bad design choices that force one to not be able to mount it on a higher shelf. Please do take note of this when considering a purchase.

  2. Bigger, better, and quieter than the regular Smart Oven. The media could not be loaded. Our Breville Smart Oven BOV800XL finally broke after 10 years of almost daily use, so it was time to replace it. Another Breville, no question – but which one? The newer Breville model (BOV900BSSUSC, the one in this review) seemed like the obvious choice, but I was afraid it wouldn’t fit on the counter or it would get too hot under the cabinets.Short answer: It fits! It doesn’t get too hot! It works great! Best choice! How did I live without it??Long answer, for those who like to overanalyze everything (not that I’d know anything about that…):*** How big is it? ***- Width: 21.5″- Depth: 15″ not including handle, 17.25″ with handle- Height: 12.375″ not including handle, 12.75″ with handleSee the attached pictures for how it compares with the BOV800XL.*** How loud is it? ***Quieter than the old one. The older 800XL convection fan was loud and almost rattled. The new one has 2 fans: one to cool the electronics and one for convection. Even with both fans, cooking with normal convection is pretty quiet. Airfry turns the convection fan up to 11 and makes a serious whoosh. I don’t use airfry much (regular convection works just as well for most things we cook), so it’s not a big deal. You want numbers? I got numbers. With the decibel meter sitting on the counter next to the oven:Baseline room noise: 33dBOven, no convection: 55dB (mostly the electronics fan)Convection: 57 dBAirfry mode: 69 dB(Note that when the fan first starts, it’s louder, maybe 66dB, for 1-2 seconds until it gets up to speed. That’s how the old 800XL fan sounded all the time.)Check out the attached video if you want to actually hear it.*** How hot does it get? ***After 15 minutes of convection roast at 450°F:- Top front: 215°F- Top back: 160°F- Sides: 140°F- Glass: 235°F- Door: 220°F (top and sides), 170°F (bottom)- Back: 135°F- Wall behind it, a few inches away: 90°F- Cabinet above, 7″ clearance: 90°FThe cabinet above it does get warmish inside, so if you store your chocolate or cooking oils or other heat-sensitive stuff there, you might have a problem.*** How well does it work? ***Great! Having a 2nd oven is amazing for when I don’t want to heat the big one, or need to cook things at 2 different temperatures, or need to keep something warm while the rest of the food finishes cooking. This oven has 10 settings, but I use only a few of them:- Toast: Slower than a toaster, but cooks the slices evenly.- Bake/roast: Temperate is accurate, cooks mostly evenly (there’s a slightly hotter spot in the front right).- Airfry: I never had a standalone airfryer, so I can’t compare. It does make things crispier compared with normal convection. Usually I just use the airfry basket with the fan on normal convection, and that seems fine.- Slow cook: Never used it.- Reheat: As far I as I can tell, the only difference between reheat and bake/roast is that for reheat, the timer starts when the oven starts heating. For bake and roast, the timer starts after the oven is already heated. Subtle difference, but surprisingly convenient for not overcooking your leftovers.tl;dr: Oven is good. I like it.

  3. We live the full time tiny home life, we purchased this as a full time oven, this is the best purchase we’ve made for this lifestyle. The door actually seals all the way, the heat is perfectly accurate, it’s extremely easy to set up and it looks amazing. The price of this nearly scared us away, we purchased the larger sized one, I’m so glad we went with it.As soon as you start pulling it out of the box you can see, and feel, the difference in quality. We were using one of those cheaper convection ovens and compared to this we may as well have been using a candle under a plate. We’ve burned through a lot of ovens, of varrying quality, and this is hands down the best we’ve purchased. It maintains an even temperature, though it does remind you to turn your food, and can even fit our Dutch oven with the lid on. The other extra wide oven we used couldn’t fit the lid and took forever to cook anything in it.If you’re using this for the tiny home lifestyle I highly recommend it, we have been blown away by the quality of the oven and how well if evenly cooks our foods. You can tell they put a lot of thought into making this and it’s on a totally different level compared to all of its competitors. I can’t speak as to how long the oven lasts, we’ve only had it for a few weeks, but you can see it’s build to last a lifetime. If you’re only using it part time you may want to go with something cheaper, it you’re looking for something to actually use as an oven then hit the buy now button, you won’t regret it.Edit on February 16th 2023.This over is still going strong and works exactly like it did when we bought it. We use it heavily and none of the markings have worn off and it still cooks to perfection. This is hands down the best Amazon purchase I’ve ever made.

  6. Very versatile oven. I have been using this oven for at least six months or more now. I love the fact that during the hot weather of summer, I have been able to use it instead of my stoves oven. Thereby avoiding getting the house to warm. I have use the the toast feature and found it wasn’t quite as good as a toaster. But it did work fine. I’ve used the broil feature, which is great for heating up, cheesy garlic bread and browning the tops of casseroles and blistering peppers for recipes calling for grilled or blackened peppers. I’ve use the big cycle many times. Because of the convection I’ve learned to drop the recipe temperature by 10° and cook for just a little bit longer. I’ve baked pies and casseroles. The roast cycle is perfect for doing roasted vegetables. I have use the proof cycle for rising bread and it worked great. I just the air fry cycle for vegetables, and reheating chicken and reheating other things that have been frozen and I put in the microwave to defrost and then put in the air fryer cycle to crisp up. It works fabulously. I’ve only use the reheat cycle once and it was so long ago I can’t really comment on it. And I just got done doing the dehydrate cycle, which worked great at dehydrating some sliced tomatoes. But I put them on parchment paper on the air fryer rack and about a quarter of them stuck to the parchment so if you try dehydrating, don’t use parchment. Next time I’ll try some of the plastic dehydrator screens I have for my dehydrator. The only downside I found is that because our house is old and our electrical wires are old, they don’t support running to many appliances on the same circuit with the Breville. So, as long as I don’t use our hot water pot to boil water and run the air fryer while the refrigerator is running and the light is on it’s OK but if I do the hot water pot and the Breville, it’ll trip, the circuit breaker every time. In fact, I saw a really nice Breville at a yard sale for $25 recently and it was at a house that was a very old house and the lady said it kept tripping her breaker so she’s just wants to get rid of it.

  7. No conocía la marca, lo compré por recomendación y ha sido una de mis mejores compras, es realmente bueno

  8. Step-up in convection countertop ovens. I replaced a Cuisinart air-fryer countertop oven with this model. The Cuisanart generally worked well, but had several control quirks and a display panel that eventually failed. This oven is a step up in every respect. I tried every feature that represented a quirk in my old oven, and found it addressed and improved in this Breville. We love the magnetic pulls for the shelf when it is in the “toast” position—no using a utensil or hot pad to reach the toasted bread. The light is replaceable. I found there was room for a 12-muffin tray, two 1 quart Pyrex bowls, a 12-inch pizza pan, or pretty much anything else I wanted to use. Baking was reliable and did not require modifying recipes. This oven gives us more bang for the buck than our old Cuisinart, and becomes a viable replacement for many of the things for which we’d use our full size range.

  9. Me sorprendió el gran tamaño que tiene y todos los accesorios que trae, es muy bueno para hacer su trabajo. Recomiendo apoyo de otra persona para poder sacarlo de su caja y ponerlo sobre su lugar.

  10. Fantastic Toaster Oven. This is our second Breville, and I am so glad to have it. When I melted a plastic cutting board that I inadvertently put into my old Breville toaster oven along with the casserole dish I was baking, it melted all over the heating elements on the bottom of the oven. My husband tried to salvage it by scraping off the tacky plastic, but it stunk too badly, and I was worried about the safety of the oven. So we got this Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro, which is a step up from our old Breville in size and features. Oh man, I’m glad to have this new one. It is FANTASTIC. I never use my regular GE oven anymore at all because this Smart Oven has TWO shelves (with the option of moving them into different slots)! My old Breville had only one. We are vegetarians and every night, I’m roasting veggies of some kind. Sometimes, there are three different kinds of veggies that are seasoned differently or inserted or removed at different times, so I put them into small pans to keep them separated. With this new Smart Oven, I can roast them all at the same time now because all the pans fit inside the oven at the same time. It’s the one feature that is hands down better than my other Breville. It is also user friendly, and wider than my previous Breville. It’s got like an extra six inches in width, which allows me to insert those two smaller pans on the top shelf, and a wider cookie sheet with say, cubed sweet potatoes, below it. It heats up in about 6-7 minutes as opposed to my regular GE oven which my repairman says to preheat for 45 minutes to achieve accurate heating. I can whip up a dinner in no time flat now because 1) The Smart Oven Pro heats efficiently and quickly (which my GE does not) and 2) all the veggies can cook at the same time (which the old Breville could not fit). It has a convection feature that if used, you have to remember it shortens your cook time (I burned brownies badly before I realized this). This oven may take up more counter space, but I think with its speed, efficiency, useful features, and ease of use, it offsets that particular issue. I tell everybody that this toaster oven is the one appliance in my kitchen I cannot do without, and I never thought anything could be better than a microwave, but this thing is. You’ll love it.

  11. Use this way more than regular oven. This has large footprint but with 3 kids we use this more than regular oven so I wanted something on the larger side. This product delivered and I couldn’t be happier. A tad more pricy than others but worth every penny. Would buy this ten times over. Cooks everything perfectly. No need to wait for our large oven to pre heat, this heats up faster and cooks slightly quicker learning curve vs regular large oven. Using for 1yr and 0 buyers remorse love this, love this, love this. If you buy be prepared with a large place on your counter though it is large if counter space is an issue for you this might not be the oven for you. Our family is now 90% this oven 10% regular oven. We have fit every thing in here from toast to roast and it has exceeded our expectations can’t say enough good things about this machine it is quality built easily cleaned, cooks great and even. Highly recommend worth the extra price. I paid around 450 felt lile it was high but read a ton of reviews and everyone loved it so I bought it and feel like it is worth every penny.

  12. Incredibly versatile. I’ve used this to broil, bake, air fry, toast, and proof. It works wonderfully and is very adjustable to the time, temperature, and rack position you want. I’m very happy with it so far. The lighted display is easy to read, the oven light makes it easy to check on things without opening the door. The crumb tray slides out easily and is easy to clean.

  13. Mi esposa esta super contenta con este horno ya que puede hacer muchas cosas, por su tamaño y versatilidad.

  14. Remarkable. What can I say. This oven is amazing! To be able to cook a frozen pizza to as close to perfection as they can get, to perfect, evenly toasted bread, to roasting a tray of veggies – so far it has done everything I’ve asked of it. Not just done the job, but done it well, without any fiddling. And the fact that it air fries (only tried it once with tater tots so far) and dehydrates (planning to make beef jerky soon), as well as toasts, roasts, bakes and broils – it’s just icing and sprinkles on top.The controls are easy to use. I haven’t done any phase cooking, not sure just what I’d even need that for. But the rest is fairly intuitive. Now that I’ve learned to trust it, I can put something on to cook and ignore it while it cooks. I was never really able to that with any other toaster oven I’ve owned, and there have been several. Others, various brands – cooked unevenly, had to be watched carefully when toasting bread, and just generally were not “set-and-forget” appliances. As a widower living alone, this is the only oven I need 99% of the time. Big enough for a 12″ pizza, and easily holds a 1/4 sheet pan. It’s a bit slow toasting bread, but the fact that the result is as near to perfect as I’ve ever gotten from any toaster of any type, a couple of extra minute per 4 slices isn’t that big a deal. This oven preheats faster than my GE electric range, and uses far less power. Definite win there.I can’t recommend this Breville Smart Oven highly enough. Giving it 5 stars is barely touching on how much I enjoy cooking with this wonderful tool.

  15. LOVE this oven – 11/10. We purchased this oven to replace our Instant Omni pro 18L (which was TERRIBLE). I owned the previous model of Breville’s smart oven before the Instant and had a great experience but was looking for the included air fryer… boy did I make a mistake with Instant…We have since returned to the Breville and could not be happier! I have used this oven multiple times a day and it produces fast consistent results every single time. I know this may sound silly but I am a believer.Toasting… perfect every time.Frozen pizzas… Perfect, taste like restaurant quality.Air fryer… love it, very fast and convenient.Meatloaf, Bread, Cookies, Fries, Baked Potatoes, Roast Turkey…. Every single time, comes out perfect. Now here’s the real important part. That instant oven I mentioned, the touch panel failed… very annoying. Breville, no touch… just buttons and dials that keep working. Our first Breville is now ~6 years old and still working great at my Brother’s house, no issue with controls. If I had to make a nitpicky complaint…. I guess it would be that the air fryer basket could allow things to drip on the heating elements, that is easily remedied by putting the rack and a pan under the fryer. If I could add 1 feature, it would be the integrated temperature probe that the instant had… that was the only thing it had going for it.Everything else with build quality, attention to detail in design, and provided accessories are excellent.
