  1. Awesome entry level all in one hydroponics kit. First let me start by saying I have a soft spot for these gadgets. I grew up with a family vegetable garden and back then you never heard anyone even consider using hydroponics for things like lettuce or herbs. This is now my second indoor hydroponics all in one set-up, my other being the big name competitor that everyone automatically thinks of when they think of these types of unit, so that is my point of reference looking at this one. Now that that is out of the way, lets have a look at what you get with this kit.First impressions: One of the first things I noticed was how plain the box is. I don’t see as much as a brand name on it, which I’m actually fine with that, I didn’t buy this for the cardboard box. The unit itself is quite easy to put together. It’s pretty compact for what it is, and light weight compared to my other unit. My only qualm with the overall build quality is how the light connects to the bar: I really would have liked to have seen a spring loaded button/lever to hold this in place rather than the rotating lock, as in theory if bumped into it could be twisted into unlock and knocked off. That hasn’t happened on my unit, but it is something to keep in mind as the rotation is fairly effortless. As for the actual usage of this unit, it works surprisingly well considering its price point. I planted some spinach and lettuce seeds and the first lettuce seed sprouted within 24 hours. The photo seen here is day 2 and you can see the second pod from the left with the seedling poking out. I was originally worried when I noticed that the pump on this one only circulates water rather than having spouts on each of the pod holes for it to pump water up to, but clearly their design still works. There is a downside to their method, however, and that is you need to keep the water pretty close to the top fill line at all times while in germination phase, as the water won’t be pushed up to the sponges by the pump. Not the end of the world, as I doubt the water level is going to lower enough in actual use for this to become a problem while still in germination stage, but it is something to keep in mind if you’re adding new seeds to the system while already having some going. Also note that you will need to supply your own seeds and your own fertilizer, in my case I am using aerogarden’s plant food that they include with their kits since I already had it on hand. The lights on the system have multiple timer settings and appear to work just fine. It threw me off that the lights were blinking the next morning on the hood of the lamp, but then I realized that was just letting me know that the system is on but is currently in its night cycle. The pump is pretty quiet, especially compared to my other unit, and shouldn’t cause any issues for anyone in the room. The light is decently bright, but not as bright as I was expecting. It won’t blind you like some of these kits where people can’t even be on the same floor as their unit. All in all this is a well thought out unit. It’s compact, it’s quiet, and it’s surprisingly attractive for being an entry level kit. I’ll update this review as my grow continues; but, as it stands now I can wholeheartedly recommend this product to anyone who wants to dip their toes into indoor herb/salad growing, or even a unit to start plants in before transplanting them into soil to get a head start on the grow season![Update]Just wanted to give an update and say this unit carried this lettuce until I removed it on 9/7. It probably could have continued it, but since the spinach didn’t sprout (no fault of the unit itself, spinach is notoriously difficult to start in these due to germination requirements) I wanted to start a new project with this using all 8 holes, which wasn’t feasible with the giant lettuce going still due to the light height. We got several bowls of salad and multiple BLTs out of it.That said, it also made me realize I do have a qualm with this unit that is going to cost it 2 stars. That qualm is that the manufacturer does not advise replacement sponges for it, leaving you to guess on your own. To further compound this issue, the cups to hold the sponges are a bit different from other manufacturers, and I can 100% confirm that aero garden sponges will not work with this unit as the bottom of the basket on these is too open and aero garden sponges fall through. What makes this worse is, the “buy together” portion of the product page actually advises sponges that are not compatible at all with this product. If you don’t already know what is compatible here, you are just out of luck unless you want to make your own sponges for this.I have multiple sponges from different manufacturers on hand, tomorrow I will test a few, confirm what brand will fit, and update this review. Beyond the lack of information, I am happy with the product’s capability, just not happy with the lack of information from the manufacturer regarding the key replacement part everyone will need. Most buyers aren’t going to have a stable of units from every brand on hand, they are going to buy one unit and use that.[Update]After testing various brand grow sponges, I discovered the lyko square sponges will work if you presoak then so the bottom swells a bit. This will only let it go 1 to 2mm through the bottom rather than falling halfway through. The other option is the iDoo sponges will work if you swap the stock baskets with the iDoo round baskets. The aero garden baskets don’t quite fit due to the grips at the top of the baskets.Scooby Doo mystery solved. I still wish the manufacturer would sell replacements themselves made for this unit, but at least now people will know what they can order to use with this kit.

  2. Grows plants quickly. I love how simple this thing is to use! It was really easy to put together, and the instructions for getting started are very straightforward. The only thing I didn’t like, was it said to use “nutrients” in the water but doesn’t state what kind. There are TONS of different fertilizers!I used what I had on hand, and so far so good! My first sprout popped up after two days. It’s been about a week now and I have all but two pods sprouted. They do seem to be growing faster than when I planted the same seeds in my garden.

  3. Nice little setup. I have no experience with other hydroponic setups similar to this so not much to compare to but it seems like a very well thought out kit. I’ve tried a few things with this in the last 3 or so months I’ve had it including growing basil from seed, growing alocasia corms and now it’s my dedicated sundew grow station. The basil seeds grew as expected but I got lazy and never got around to using nutrients and dealing with all that so I stuck those out in the garden to finish growing. The alocasia corms popped nicely in here but I didn’t adjust the light due to some basil still present. They started to get sun stressed, so had to remove them quickly to continue to grow in a regular pot, it had very nice roots as you can see in my pic. Next comes my carnivorous sundews, I figured it’s a perfect setup for those, using sphagnum moss in the plugs works great, I dont have to spend the time dealing with nutrients and the lights are nice and strong. After moving the Drosera capensis and spoonleaf sundews in, it wasn’t long before I was seeing the nice red color and lots of healthy dew. I’m in love with this as a carnivorous plant setup.Overall I like this system, it’s versatile, functional and easy to use. The little humidity domes are great but I wish there were also caps to close off any unused holes to prevent algae from growing and keep dust out. Would also be nice if there were different top parts available with hole patterns for like 2-4 larger plants vs 8 smaller ones. It is a bit inconvenient having the power cord attached to the base, so when you clean it out you have to unplug the whole thing. Nice system regardless.

Not an AeroGarden, I guess. So I have had this thing for several months and I really have not gotten it to grow much. Not sure if it is the units fault or my fault. I had a few herbs sprout but they never seem to grow. The design seems just like an AeroGarden, which I have not used either. I think the pump just circulates the water around. It has taken about a month or my kale plants to be about 3 inches tall but not really developing. I have put fertilizer in the water. The instruction were not real clear.I guess if you know what you are doing and understand fertilizer ratios and all of that, it might be great but so far, as a noob, I have not been able to grow much of anything. I am trying to use it right now to root / propagate some lemon balm plants. we shall see how that goes. It might be great for that.

not much to it. Hydroponics Growing System 8 Pods, Indoor Herb Garden, Plant Growing Gardening kit, 25W 3 Color Plant Growthpretty limited kit.comes with tank, light, cord, grow medium, basket and a spoon. no seeds or fertilizer. so be prepared to get everything else youre gonna need. i guess i thought there would be started kit type items included. i was wrong. after that disappointment subsides and you have your own seeds, you put the seed in the grow medium they call it biochar mud put that in the basket thingy and plop it into the tank hole. then let it do its thing. as far as fertilizer goes you will need to research it. i got a kit from masterblend 5-11-26. there is a light that has different options for sprouting, growing and ripening. or a single day cycle. and there is a pump that circulates the water. biggest complaint besides all the stuff thats missing is when you need to raise the light it comes out of the socket unless you hold everything just right. this really should lock into place.
