Ignore the bad reviews, let me explain why and how to use this properly. First off, I’ve read some 1 star reviews by people that clearly have no idea what this product is, how it works, or how to use it. This is 100% Cyanuric Acid (CYA). While it says Stabilizer and Conditioner, this is one ingredient.CYA is a chemical that acts as a chlorine stabilizer. It forms a protective shield around the chlorine molecules in your pool, preventing them from breaking down when exposed to ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sun. The recommended amount of CYA in your pool can vary depending on whether you have a saltwater pool with a Salt Water Chlorine Generator (SWG) or a traditional chlorine pool. In a traditional chlorine pool without an SWG, the recommended range for CYA is 40-50, whereas a salt water pool would be higher at a recommended 70-80.Adding CYA to your pool is important for maintaining an effective chlorine level. Without CYA, the chlorine in your pool can quickly dissipate due to sunlight exposure, requiring you to add more chlorine frequently. By using CYA, you can extend the lifespan of your chlorine, saving you both time and money.How to add it:Do NOT just dump it into the pool. CYA takes time to dissolve fully in the water. By just dumping it into the water, it may not dissolve properly and could settle on the pool floor, or worse, clog the filter.Instead you can either use an old sock, or (see photo) my favorite method is some sack cloth. Measure how how much you need, following the instructions carefully, then letting it soak for 12 hours. If you see my photo, I do it this way so I can place the skimmer lid back, and keep the cloth from falling into the skimmer (don’t let this happen). Also, make sure the pump stays running for 24 hours during and after adding CYA.You can speed the process up by massaging the sack, just don’t do this too vigorously otherwise you’ll end up with CYA granules falling out.Notes:CYA does not break down or dissipate. It remains in the water for an extended period of time, providing its stabilizing effects on chlorine. Unless you have had your pool water replaced, or you have a new pool there is no reason to keep adding CYA.CYA levels can gradually build up in the pool over time, especially if excessive amounts are added or if the water is not diluted or partially drained and refilled periodically. This buildup can lead to high CYA levels, also known as “chlorine lock,” which can negatively impact the effectiveness of chlorine. Monitoring and testing CYA levels regularly is crucial to maintaining the appropriate range for optimal pool chemistry and chlorine stability.
dissolves just fine in my pool. After reading about raising cyanuric acid in pools I was a little nervous for a first time pool owner. after reading all the hype on other sites, and all the reviews on this product about not dissolving.I decided to just do it, and see what the big deal was. This stuff dissolved just fine and has turned my pool into a great place to be. I put mine into a bag I created out of panty hose legs. I added half of what the directions on the bag indicated would be needed for my 10000 gallon pool.I added it in 2 stages to my skimmer because it is a small basket. it raised the level just fine and was just a little less than recommended levels.I waited 2 weeks to make sure the chlorine level was stable and then added the rest of the recommended rate and it brought the cyanuric acid right to the proper level.I would highly recommend based on my experience.I have more than I needed and intend to store it in a sealed container in a cool dry place until it may be needed. If your pool needs this I’d say just do it and read the instructions.
Keep Your Pool Water Clean. This works to preserve the chlorine level in your pool water, and it’s a better price than I can find locally. I broadcast it in the deep end of the pool, it’s easy to use, but it will take at least 24 hours to fully dissolve. If that’s a concern, you can dissolve it in a bucket of water before adding it to your pool.My Taylor test kit tells me how much cyanuric acid I have in the water, so I can weigh out how much I need to add. It doesn’t evaporate, so it lasts a long time. We will lose some after heavy rains when some water runs out the overflow pipe, so about once a year I will have to replenish the stabilizer.
Must dissolve slowly. First this is CYA- Cyanuric Acid, it does NOT raise chlorine. It only helps to stablize existing chlorine so it doesn’t burn off as fast in the sun. 2nd too much is BAD. You’ll cause “chlorine lock” and the ONLY way to lower CYA is drain water from pool and fresh fill. I run my salt water pool at 40-60ppm. 3rd – Heres the trick, put required amount in a stocking and dissolve in your skimmer, 2lbs takes me about 4 hours running 1900rpms. Using a bucket just doesn’t work. For my 15k gallon pool, 2lbs raises about 15ppm so the accuracy seems off compared to the bag.
