Added protection against mustard/yellow algae. In my backyard, there are several oak and pecan trees surrounding my ~30k gallon in ground, vinyl lined pool. Each year I fight green and yellow algae, but this year has been my toughest battle yet. I normally use standard 3″ pellets and standard shock(not the 6 in 1) to maintain my pool during the summer months. This year, that simply wasn’t enough.After repeatedly shocking my pool clear, the mustard algae kept coming back. I got this product to augment my fight against the algae and simply placed it in my skimmer box the 3rd time my pool became partly cloudy/green-blue. After 10 days of my normal routine, the water cleared up, the algae dropped out, residual chlorine went way up and I won my fight. This has been an excellent product. Nothing in my routine changed except for this addition. The water is now also a deeper shade of blue. I see this as a more cost effective way to get the same results I’ve received in the past from using the 6 in 1 products, which cost much more for me in the long run.I did note you need to be a bit careful when removing the skimmer after this product has been in there a while. I now place the skimmer on the [underside of the] lid for the skimmer, instead of on the concrete deck itself, because the PoolRX unit drops flakes of a blue substance that can dye the concrete a bit. The color did come off after several days and some rain, so it wasn’t a big deal. but I can imagine it might stain some surfaces if you’re not careful. I would both recommend and purchase this product again.
Magical product. This summer I had light algae appear earlier than previous summers. Never before was I scrubbing walls and slamming the chlorine in May, but this year I was. I bought the PoolRX on Prime Day, and it has held my pool walls clear for the last month- a month where I normally get a little algae on the walls when the pool water temperature raises.I did two tests to check the efficacy of PoolRX. 1. There was algae on a few problem spots in my pool when I put this product into the pump basket. I did not scrub the algae. I just put PoolRX in and waited. In four days, the algae was gone and has not returned. No scrubbing, no chlorine treatment, no additional algaecide.2. I have started running my chlorine waaayy lower to see if algae would appear while the poolRX is in my pump basket. I’ve been at just under 1.0ppm of chlorine for three weeks, and no algae has appeared. Mind you, algae was appearing regularly before the PoolRX treatment. (I have corroborated with friends that they were having algae issues earlier than before too.)Dude, it works.
This Thing Works. I had some serious issues with algae in my pool to the point where I ended up redoing the entire pool with new tile, coping and pebble bottom. However within 6 months the algae came back and I was having to scrub the tile and walls of the pool every other day. I have a professional pool guy that makes sure the water chemicals are just right so it was not the water. We determined that the algae was still in the pipes underground and in the equipment. My pool guy recommended the PoolRX and it it started working within 24 hours! I have had it in the pump basket for about a week and half now and i have not seen one trace of algae. Prior to the PoolRX, I was having to clean the inline filter basket from the pool cleaner 2x /week as the blue net would turn green. After a week and a half, it is bright blue and NO indication of algae anywhere. Truly amazing simple fix, thank you PoolRX!
My only regret – – that I didn’t buy it sooner. I buy a lot on Amazon. (Just ask my husband or my UPS delivery guy 🤦🏼♀️. ) Rarely do I take time to writer reviews, but this one just might help you avoid my mistake – – waiting to buy the Pool RX. Twice this summer I had one in my cart, but I failed to complete my purchase. Instead I poured expensive chlorine to my pool problems. Although it usually helped some, my pool was never perfectly clear like it is now. Some patchy algae still always cling to the walls and other hard to reach areas like behind my steps. Now, after one week using this product, I am finally completely algae free. I will never be without this product again.7 year old 30,000 gallon above ground pool. I’ve only ever used the BBB method which is relatively easy, but this is even easier due to requiring less chlorine.
Black mold. I had black mold that started to spread in my pebble tec pool after about 5 years of having the pool. Started with about 30 spots and quickly spread to over 100 spots. My local pool shop said I would probably have to drain and acid wash, which I didn’t want to do for obvious reasons. Local pool shop gave me a 3” chlorine tab and I swam around scrubbing the spots. Went through three of this tabs over a few weeks. Helped some but new spots continued to emerge. Next I poured in Algecide and let it work for 2-3 weeks or so and continued to scrub with chlorine tab. Still new spots emerging but knocking it down some…problem not solved yet. As a last resort, I bought this product and dropped it into the skimmer after reading some reviews. Within a few weeks, not a single spot of black mold AND my water is crystal clear. Much clearer than it has been in a long time. I have a 22k gal saltwater pool with pebble tec. Highly recommend this product. Remember to change your filters when you use this to get rid of any junk stuck in them.
