Best Value Headphones on the Market. I have always sworn by Turtle Beach’s $60 headphones, whatever the current generation is. I have literally told at least 20 other gamers over the years that whatever turtle beach’s current $60 headphones are, get those and they’ll be all you ever need. This is my 4th pair and I must say they are the best yet. I have had one pair (of that year $60 turtle beaches) for each xbox i’ve owned: 360, One, and now Series S. I had a pair of the 1st gen recon 200 that i bought actually before i purchased a series S, but those got kind of abused by me (used them for phones, laptop, etc) and it seems that that these gen 2s have been upgraded in all the right places: better battery, better material for ear piece, and they work exactly the same as my gen 1s. Actually the most important part of this specific pair for me was the value: i ended up going with an open box that was described as “very good” condition (didn’t mention anything about damage to the headphones, only the box) for ONLY $24! so i decided to risk it since i wasn’t in desperate need of a working pair yet. boy was this the right choice. the only “damage” on the box was that the seal was broken. there was no instruction guide or charging cable in the box but i didn’t need those. in the 3rd photo you can see a small blemish on the top of the headphones but that doesn’t bother me at all. the headphones were dead but that’s what happens when they are stuck in the on position. so i charged them up and tested them and they work like a charm. i have used the microphone in both party and game chat and it works perfectly fine. TWO IMPORTANT CAVEATS: first, I own this controller adapter (4th photo) from a previous headset (xbox one i think) that i believe is the only thing that allows me to use these headsets with my controllers, so i don’t know if it is needed in your case. second, the first gen recon 200 is charged with a micro-usb. this 2nd gen headset is charged with a usb-c. it wasn’t a problem for me as i have probably every cable known to man somewhere in my house, but my open box version didn’t come with a usb-c charging cable.TLDR: I swear by TB’s $60 headphones. this is my 4th pair across 3 generations of xboxes. i risked it on a $24 open box and they work perfectly fine. so a headset i think is worth $120, that i would have payed $60 for, i ended up getting for barely $25 🙂
Good sound (both for input and output,) and comfy to boot. First: the main complaint people have about these actually appears to be caused by the user failing to charge them. Yes, they are wired (auxiliary vs. Bluetooth) headphones, and many wired headphones don’t require charging to fully work… But these have ‘standard’ and ‘powered’ modes, and the latter will drain the internal battery after a few long sessions, after which they automatically revert to the ‘standard’ mode.In ‘standard’ mode, they work perfectly fine for output, but the microphone doesn’t work well; others can hardly hear you (if they can hear you at all.)In the ‘powered’ modes (Xbox or PS,) the output is amplified, frequency response improves dramatically, and the mic becomes super crisp. I do find the Xbox vs PS switch perplexing; both modes work (for both out- and input) with my Xbox Series X, but I actually find the PS mode provides better sound for me. There are also dials above the ‘mode switch’ for both the output and microphone volumes.Once dead, they don’t take a terribly long time to re-charge, and I even found that if they happen to die while I’m in a party, I can simply use my extra long USB-C phone charger to plug them in and continue to use the ‘powered.’ So, while the need to charge them is a slight annoyance, I really like that I don’t have to stay on top of it to make sure they don’t die. They are very lightweight and comfortable; as someone with a smaller head, I’ve found many headsets will end up either gradually slipping off, or feeling so heavy that I get a headache over time. Not so with these! I can even wear thick-rimmed blue light blocking glasses without issue. The headband has supple pleather cushioning, and the ear cups are cushy and lined with fine mesh. When not in use, the ear cups will fold out so as to flatten, making it easy to put them in a case if you’re going somewhere. All in all, for the price I’d say these are exceptional gaming headphones. I’ve had both generic headsets ~$15 cheaper than these, and specialty headsets that were at least double the price… And these far outrank both. I’d absolutely recommend them, along with a 10ft USB-C cable just in case you find out mid-game that you forgot to re-charge them 😉

Love this headset, but can be a little annoying as a PC user. I’ve been using this headset for six months, and I would give it a 4.5. Rounding up to 5 stars because I am fairly happy with it (comfortable to wear, 12 hour battery life, can be used while charging, and can also be used while off if you don’t need the boosted audio/mic). My biggest issue with this headset comes from me being a PC user. Twice since I’ve had it, the mic would simply not work on my computer, despite everything working. It turns out your computer and drivers need to be completely up to date for this headset to be working fully, and at it’s best. It’s a fairly easy fix, but can be a bit annoying to have to check my drivers one by one to figure out what the problem is. If you’re a console user, you probably wouldn’t have this problem.I do love this headset, but I wish I’d known this going in. It would have saved me a lot of trial, error, and frustration.EDIT-November 7, 2024I had this headset for 2 years. It developed a hairline fracture just below the hinge point on the left/microphone side. I bought the two year extended warranty through Asurion, and they refunded me the full amount I paid for this headset in the form of an Amazon gift card. I’m sad my Recon 200 is gone now, but I am extremely happy with my experience. I will definitely use the money to buy another one. The sound quality is fantastic, and people in game/Discord have told me that the microphone is very crisp. After two years of use, the headset showed very minimal signs of wear and tear, apart from crack of course. I will note that I am pretty gentle with my electronics. If I hadn’t had the warranty, I’m sure I could have super glued the crack, and continued to use this headset for much longer. Can not recommend this enough! Great value for a very very solid headset. Turtle Beach is my new go-to!

Versatile headset. Recon 200 Gen 2 is equipped with 40 mm drivers with a bass boost. Also, for a deeper experience, this headset is equipped to send spatial audio through technology such as Windows Sonic, Dolby Atmos or DTS: 3D X and Sony audio headphones. This is a messy headset that can hold 12 hours of charge through the included USB Type-C cables, making the audio harder and fuller. Unlike other cluttered headphones, if Recon 200 Gen 2 runs out of juice during the playback session it will continue to run passive headphones with 3.5mm input. The ear cushions are made of breathable memory foam that helps keep the headphones from being too hot during a longer gaming session with lightweight metal-strengthened headbands to the head comfort.Recon 200 Gen 2 works as a passive headphone, but it shines when the amplifier is turned on. When using Recon to listen to my PC Thuthh music, the source sounds fuller on the PS setting, so I keep it on juice. When the beefed up sound is turned on in the 200 gen 2 sound, it sounds fantastic. Other fortified headphones don’t work at all when they don’t have a charge, but Recon 200 Gen 2 will work as a passive headphone when the battery dies, although in passive state, the sound quality is dated but nothing is written home.Closing comment:The amplification does a lot of things to boost the sound by raising the low end and making Eventning sound fuller. Being run as passive headphones is a nice feature because it makes the Recon 200 never out of commission, but there is a decrease in sound quality that is famous when used as passive headphones. By switching the settings between Xbox and PlayStation, it ensures that users can get optimal feedback for whichever console they use.
Contiene un amplificador interno que lo hace más potente que otros, tengo los 500 y prefiero estos, lo recomiendo ampliamente. Son geniales cómodos y potentes como me gusta. Saludos.
Great product. Not for music. For the price is one of the best options for gaming. However, I’m a musician and audio quality is not the best for music. Average person won’t notice the difference but consider that.
No complaints. Bought them for my son. Haven’t seen or heard from him since. So I would say worth the money for sure.
good headset, small cons. very good headset for the price.the sound quality is very very nice and i can enjoy both music and gaming with this headset so it is all around good in sound.be aware that the mic quality is not good. it’s very quiet even on max settings everything turned up loud as possible.also, the headset is noise cancelling so you probably won’t be aware that ur being loud if u rage at games cuz it cancels a lot of outside sound (which is good for gaming, just maybe not good if u have roommates or sensitive neighbors). i don’t like however that when i moved my head around i can hear the crackly sound of the plastic headphones adjusting. tbh this is just because the whole outside casing is all hard plastic. it doesn’t really affect anything, but my mic picks up the cracking sounds sometimes, which i don’t love.the headband is comfortable and i can wear the headphones a long time with no discomfort. also i can fit my ears inside the cups perfectly fine with earrings on too and have no pressure on my ears or anything. someone with larger ears might not want to choose this headset tho because the ear cups are just average sized to slightly small i feel like.all around good headset tho: 8/10.

Great performance on PS4. It is near IMPOSSIBLE to find non-Sony headphones that don’t sound like complete trash on PS4. That is why I am VERY happy with these Turtle Beach headphones. On Passive they sound just fine with the volume near the top, great for saving the batteries when on menus or loading screens. When the game starts or watching cutscenes the Active mode sounds incredible! Bass is more than adequate, and the mids and highs are not overpowering like most headsets at this pricepoint.Another reviewer said when Turtle Beach comes out with a mid-range headset, buy it! I agree, at least for PS4.As for PC, haven’t gamed with this set, but videos and classes are ok on passive and just simply loud with active mode. Does not work well with Spotify.Did not test on xbox
