  1. Kills many mosquitoes… when it’s dark. Not fully for outdoor use. In short, it kills many mosquitoes and flies very well in the dark. When it is sunny outside, however, it does not work as well.PROS- Kills mosquitoes, moths, and flies in the evening- Some killed bugs actually fall off- You can hear when a bug is zapped- Usable indoor and outdoor– WARNING: Plug is NOT nor has ALCI circuit breaking protection against electric shockCONS- Not effective during sunny days as the bugs may not necessarily be able to see the blue glow- Can be a bit of a pain to clean the zapper from dead bugs with a small brush. Be sure to unplug from the power source so you don’t electrocute yourself- Plug is NOT nor has ALCI circuit breaking protection against electric shock– NOTE: description states it can be used outdoor, but without a waterproof rating or ALCI plug, I’d be very cautious to use it outside, particularly if it rains. Regardless, make sure you plug this into a GFCI outlet!- Being able to hear a bug being zapped can be uncomfortable for some peopleOverall, this zapper works great in the evening, although mosquitoes could still come bite you.

  2. This zapper is awesome! There is a noticeable decrease in the creepy crawlers. The media could not be loaded. This Black + Decker bug zapper is pretty awesome! I am a seasonal camper and spend alot of time in the woods and the one thing I cant stand is the bugs! The area I live has had a few cases of EEE which is pretty scary. So any time we are outside we load up on bug spray and long pants and shirts. This zapper I feel has made quite a difference. We used to sit by the fire and get attacked however since I have had this zapper set up there has been a noticeable decrease in pesky bugs. It came packaged well and is pretty easy to set up. You can either set it on top of a table or they include a chain that you can hang it up with. I leave it on whenever we are at the campsite whether its day or night. I was absolutely amazed the 1st night I left it. I checked in the morning and it was covered with all kinds of creepy crawlers. I highly suggest this zapper. I was a little skeptical about spending the money on it but im so happy I did.

  3. Bulb blew out in a month. Cluster flies are nature’s answer to how to keep children entertained with only a hand vacuum cleaner during a pandemic. These lazy, slow flying bugs are mostly a nuisance due to their vast number that choose your home as the perfect place to overwinter, and the fact I don’t have children. So I bought this.It works perfectly turning the house into a no-fly zone. But after a month the UV bulb inside burnt out, taking the input capacitors in the ballast with them. The kill grid still worked but useless without the lure. And the “black and decker” label partially detached. Had to replace the two 15uF 250V caps (I went with 350V replacements) and new bulbs (2G11 18W). Black and Decker part number for the bulbs is BDPCA-18W but I went with a third party. We’ll see how long they last. The good: – Works; eliminated flying insects indoors. – Screwed together making it easy to perform DIY repairs. The bad: – Initial bulb lasted a month. Usually bulbs last 10,000 hours. – Needs DIY repairs. – Bulb replacement requires separating two halves of lamp housing… that is taped together by the product label. Seems to encourage removing or slicing the label. – Bottom of bulb is glued onto foam blocks. Requires force to separate when replacing.

  6. Arrived without breakage. Haven’t had to use them yet, but they arrived intact. Packaging was excellent. Look to be exact replicas of original light in the bug zapper, so looks like we are set.

Great replacement bulb. Replacement bulb is just what we needed. The one that came with the lantern zapper had a flat spot at the top of the bulb and the replacement does not. However, the bulb works fine so don’t let the lack or the flat area on top of the bulb fool you. It works fine:-) we love our zappers! I am eaten up by mosquitoes and no-see-ums every year almost all year long. I live in Florida…the jungle!!! These zappers have saved my skin.

  8. Had to return. Didn’t work as replacement on my bug zapper . Don’t know really how to review

  9. Fits my Black & Decker BDXPC941 Bug Zapper. This replacement bulb fits my Black & Decker BDXPC941 Bug Zapper, and I have been looking forever for a shorter 5″ bulb with the two pins. I think B&D stopped selling their bulb so this may be a good alternative. I just hope that it lasts me more than 30 days and I shall soon to see.

  10. Not sure this is going to work. Will update if it does. Hooked it up and immediately noticed one of the bulbs is barely lit. Not impressed. Doesn’t seem to react to bits of metal being thrown at it like my old one did. I’ll update if it actually catches anything in my bug ridden open garage.Update: This doesn’t really work for pantry moths. For context, they’re swarming my dad’s garage after he left dog food and bird seed open for a weeks. You can see up to 10 flying around you at a time and they’re all over the walls. I paired with moth pheromones traps too, which only catch males. Honestly, the zapper does work fine even with the weird bulb, but it primarily catches every type of moth BESIDES the pantry moths. They float right past it 9/10 times. Some will go in but it’s like the light doesn’t work on them like normal moths. So… I guess I’ll put it out in the shop for mosquitos this summer.Anyway, please cover your parents cover dog food and bird seed. Super annoying mistake.

Buyer Beware – Mixed Quality of Manufacturing. Let me start off by saying that I own 2 of these and was very happy with them when I first got them. It was only after I had to replace the bulbs the first time that I started to have issues. I wasn’t all that bothered when one zapper had an 8′ long power cord while the other only had a 2′ long cord. In fact, I thought that was amusing. No, my problem is with the bulbs constantly burning out.One of my zappers I’ve been “lucky” with in that it’s be going strong with one of the replacement bulbs still working after ~1.5 years from being installed, but it’s partner bulb died very early on. In the other zapper, I’ve been through enough bulbs to buy a dozen of these zappers. So, for ~2 years I just assumed I got the short-end of the straw with bulbs, but I finally decided to dust off my old electricians skills and took the zapper apart after it burned out a new set of bulbs in only a few hours. Simply put, the issue is with the bulb seat. The contacts are poorly aligned/fitted, causing arcs between the contacts on the zapper and the bulb prongs. It takes a bit, varying from bulb-to-bulb, but the end result is always burning out the bulb stupid quickly.I even did an independent test on the bulbs, contacting them directly to leads so there couldn’t be any arcing. They maintained a steady and unwavering light for a month from the exact same power outlet I then connected the zapper to with those same bulbs. They were already flickering upon install. After ~30 minutes of reseating and testing, I finally got a steady light from them, but a few hours later they were flickering without the zapper having been touched. By the time I got up in the morning, they were entirely burnt out. When I was younger, I could really appreciate the quality from Black & Decker, but maybe I’m just too old to remember any flaws they had. Sorry Black & Decker, but you’re far too expensive for such poor quality.

  17. Good product. I originally bought this while in Tulum, Mexico to even the score between the blood sucking mosquitoes and myself. At first I thought it was defective because of the feature where it is supposed to turn itself on and off depending on the light. Obviously, the sensor and I have different opinions about when it should come on..so I just cap the sensor and leave it on all of the time. So satisfying to hear them sizzle knowing I will have one less itchy welt to deal with. Back in the US, I keep it in a counter near my kitchen and it takes care of any fruit flies and the few mosquitos that wander in. So, here is the thing about the bulb. Using it full time, 24 hours a day, it lasts about 6 months. That is not unplugging it at all. I like it as a night light too and in complete darkness when I am sleeping that is the only light in my home so they really have no other option but to go to the light to get zapped. The bulb does look different when it is getting time to replace it as you can see in the photo. Do not overcomplicate it when changing the bulb. There are no instructions which I think is a mistake. And of course, once you know how to do it no instructions are really necessary. But couldn’t they just write (To change bulb, flip lamp over, unscrew the cover and pull to remove the bulb. No tools necessary) It’s a good product; in fact when going to Costa Rica, I use valuable real estate in my checked bag to take it with me. I might miss an extra pair of shoes I could have packed, but Dengue Fever would be a lot worse. Don’t mess with mosquitos. They can kill you..or just make you miserable.

Works. I ordered this and it came fast. Worked straight out of the box as expected and kills bugs.

  19. Rugged and Durable. Today I was looking for an inside version of this zapper, and while this showed up as purchased before I decided to give it a quick review based on my past experience. When I was looking for one of these last year I wanted to get a known brand only because I was going to have it outside and wanted a product that was somewhat durable. This guy survived this first year of Arizona heat no problem. I turn it on at night when mosquitos are being feisty and it definitely works. The trick is just to put it somewhat far from the area you’ll be in and this thing will attract and zap surrounding mosquitos. I seem to attract mosquitoes like there’s no tomorrow, and there’s been scenarios where I can have a full cookout outside and not be bit by a single mosquito so I can attest to it’s functionality. But what was more important to me was the durability of it and for that reason I gave it 5/5. Some extra information, this thing is big so it’s probably more of an outside item, which size could be a plus if this is the application you’re intending it for.

  23. Bug zapper. Used it the first night I received it! I’ve had a terrible time with moths at my front porch and this zapper has eliminated hundreds! The light isn’t too bright yet it attracts all kinds of insects! The trays fills up quickly so make sure to empty after each night of use! The little brush it comes with works well to knock any bugs that are still hanging on to the lightbulb. It’s gross but oddly satisfying! lol great product!

  25. Burnt out in Less than 3 months!!! Worst purchase. Shouldn’t even be able to give these 1 star. They deserve a 0 all the way. I’ve had these for less than 3 months and 2 of them literally burned out 1 day after the other. 1 is still going for right now and the other one I haven’t plugged in yet. We came home to our house smelling like fire and then the next day the garage smelling like fire and we thought it was an outlet or plug somewhere, but no it was the zappers. We only turn them on at night and turn them off in the morning so they’re not constantly going. They’ve barely caught anything and yet they just almost caught on fire. I can’t return them now cuz they’re past the 30 day window, but having these less than 3 stinking months is absolutely ridiculous. Worst purchase I’ve ever made. I highly highly suggest to buy something better unless you want a fire to start and not be home to stop it in time and have the zappers have to be thrown out and have to purchase new ones. And the worst part is they’ve barely even been worth the purchase because they’ve barely caught anything so I don’t know how they’re so overworked to burn out.
