  1. Less waste with our dog compared to other dog food products we’ve used. I like the content of ingredients in this dog food and the fact that the total ingredients are geared to our eight year old dog, a Labrador, and there is no waste byproducts in the food or cheap fillers. Our previous dog was a very large Newfoundland and her manure waste was less than many of our friends dogs that were a hundred pounds, or more, lighter than her. She lived till she was over eight years old and her heart was struggling to pump because of fluid. It sounded like a washing machine sloshing through the soapy water. Many large dogs that work cattle like our Newfoundland did don’t live past 6 to 6.5 years. With our current 92 pound Labrador he is in perfect health at this time with no indication of breathing problems or muscle/joint problems. We are on a 7 week automatic refill program and being up in our 70’s we don’t have to go buy the food and haul it out of the store, into the Jeep, out of the Jeep, into the house. So one time moving this large bag is so much easier on my wore-out joints and the convenience of the auto-refill would be worth a lot more to me than it would be to a person that didn’t bale hay, haul feed, get up and down hundreds of times on the tractor in a typical day.

  2. 14 year old acts like puppy. My 14 year old Maltese has had a bad cough for quite awhile. Heart & trachea were normal so vet put her on a couple meds to see if it would help. The meds sent her into sundowners/doggie dementia. I search the web & found she had all symptoms. There was a lot on when it’s time to put your dog down because of quality of life! Then I came across good reviews for this dog food helping with cognitive health. I ordered a week ago & now she is acting like a puppy again!

  3. Had to stop using it. Had to stop using it my dog became very allergic to something in it.Thank you.

  4. A great value and vet recommended for senior dogs. I should start off by stating I have a 10lb papillon dog who is 14 years old. He recently had a cyst in his mouth and thankfully his vet was kind enough to remove all his remaining teeth since they were causing him pain. Even being toothless he readily gobbles this kibble down without issue. Not to be gross, but his stools are consistent (I know because I clean it up out of the yard) with his poops being firm yet wet. He seems to enjoy this food and during the first few months he was on it I noticed he no longer compulsively licked himself. He’s definitely an older dog, so it’s hard to say it’s improved his energy levels as he sleeps most of the day, but he still gets the zoomies and races around outside. Overall, this has been a good food for him because he readily eats it and has been stable on it for about 6-8 months now.I recommend you give it a try if you have an older dog.

  5. Great Dog Food. Switch to this type of Purina at our Vet’s recommendation for our senior terrier with a profound heart murmur. He loved it from day one of switching and gets excited for food time again.

  6. Reviews and Recommendations November 5, 2023 at 12:00 am

A happy pup. During the pandemic we couldn’t get our regular food (Purina sensitive skin and stomach) so had gotten this as a last ditch effort to keep our 10 year old Aussie fed. I was worried about his stomach with the switch, but he’s never been better. No stomach upsets, and he suddenly has way more energy. He always seemed to move fine and without complaint, but he’s now WOUND UP again and loving life. We’ve had to start going for daily bicycle rides to take the edge off because he’s feeling better than ever. While a bit expensive, we will never have a different senior feed because it made a world of difference. He’s a puppy again but without the chewing!

  7. Veterinarian prescribed for my elderly dog. When I took my newly rescued elderly Doberman Pinscher to his first veterinarian visit he was 20lbs overweight and sluggish. The vet told me to reduce his food intake drastically (2and1/2 cups a day) and told me to get Purina Pro Plan Plus dog food for dogs 7 years or older. It is pricey but a little bit satisfies their hunger so it goes a long way. I feed both my older dogs this food and they love it and are thriving, lively dogs! I’m very pleased with this product despite the cost.

  8. Vet recommended, great for senior dogs. I take care of my grandma’s dogs (a chihuahua and pomeranian, both are standard size and not toy or teacup) now that she’s moved into a memory care facility and we needed a change in diet. Our vet recommended this one and it’s been great; the older 16 year old dog had been having a lot of memory problems and sudden increase in accidents on the floor, excess agitation, and his mood and behavior have drastically improved on this food. He has had just two accidents since incorporating it (it definitely is forgetfulness and not incontinence, per our vet) and he’s a lot more alert and responsive than he was on his previous diet.As a bonus, the texture (shredded meat and veg in a gooey gravy—I hate it honestly) slows down the chihuahua who has a problem with eating too fast and circling his buddy like an unhinged vulture. Both dogs love the taste and think it’s the best food they’ve ever had, but one of them compulsively licks flat surfaces (I’ll let you guess whether it’s the chihuahua or the pomeranian) so there’s no real accounting for taste here.Worst thing I can say about it is that the foil is nearly impossible to get off in one piece and if you aren’t careful it will give you an agonizing papercut-style wound, leaving your grandma’s poor old dogs to think you’re starving them while you bleed through multiple towels for five minutes. (It’s only happened once but yes, I am still bitter.) It’s also expensive, but I calculated how much we’d have to buy of their old food to meet the same caloric amount and this is only about $45 more per month. For keeping my grandma’s dogs happy and healthy, we agree it’s worth the price. Also, anyone hesitating to switch to this food because of diarrhea should know that almost any diet change is likely to alter your dog’s stool for a few days! I’m slowly phasing out their old food with this one and both dogs had loose stool for four days upon introduction. It’s since improved, so I’d say stick it out for about a week before writing it off.

  10. Expensive. My 11 year old boxer was starting to experience mental decline, being awake at night, nighttime anxiety. We and the vet thought early dementia or sundowners. After 3 months we tried this food and on the second bag we noticed her burping a lot. Started giving her famotidine twice a day and all symptoms went away. Turns out she developed acid reflux from a round of carprofen in May.Long story short, the dog food was fine, very expensive but if your dog is showing signs of dementia or mental decline see if they have acid reflux first.

  12. I noticed a difference in my tween doxie. I mix this with Purina Beyond grain free dog food and I’ve noticed a difference in Ronson my 16 year old Doxie. He loves it but he will eat anything. He’s very sensitive to a lot of food because of his food allergies but he tolerates it well. Also he’s able to find the doors to go in and out in most of the time. He actually ran the other day. It was good to see. I’m not sure if I’ll switch over to just giving him just the bright mind because I found that to much grain causes ear infections in both my dogs.

  13. Great dog food for our senior dog. We have had several senior dogs over the last few years. This dog food was an answer to our senior dog needs. It is very good for their sensitive stomachs, and easy to digest. No runny stools, and it seems to help with regular bathroom habits too.

  14. Helps dogs eat their kibble. This wet food can be awesome for encouraging dogs who are kibble-reluctant to eat the kibble and still get the benefits against their teeth. Mixing in a tablespoon into kibble has made the dogs gobble up their food. It’s nice because it’s realistic looking meat instead of the the ground up kind. They feel like they are getting a special treat but are also getting the nutrition of their kibble.

  15. Picky senior dog loves it. I’ve been giving my dogs Bright minds for about 2 years now (dry kibble). My 13 year old dog was starting to show signs of dementia and our vet recommended this brand. It made such a huge difference, it was like I had my young pup back! However he is picky and wasn’t a fan of it so I had to add food toppers to incentivize him to eat it.Recently he had a big spinal surgery and it Was really hard to get him to eat. So I decided to try the wet food version. HE LOVES IT! No more food toppers. He eats it right up! I like the containers in comes in. It’s easy to store any left over food because the lid clicks back on the plastic container. The foil wrapper is petty annoying and it’s impossible to peel off in one piece so you’ll get your hands dirty each time. They are a decent size and looks Like it’s real meat so the quality seems good. I do think they are pretty expensive considering that he needs one every day, it’s like paying more than $4 per meal. They don’t smell bad like other canned dog food but it’s also dog food so it’s not a yummy smell either. All in all, I think it’s a great option for my boy. I hope they make larger packs and make them more affordable because I’d like to continue purchasing.
