Purina Pro Plan Active, High Protein Dog Food, SPORT 27/17 Chicken & Rice Formula – 37.5 lb. Bag

Perfect ingredients for my dog. I have fed my 10-year-old border collie mix lots of highly-rated dog foods over the years. Now some of my go-to and grain free foods have been implicated in canine heart disease, so I checked out the Purina foods again. I read somewhere that Purina has done more testing than most brands. I chose the Purina Pro Plan Sport formula 27/17 (percent protein/fat) that has no corn, wheat or soy. It does have some barley and oats. My dog loves the food; there is no fishy odor which I hate; her stools are nice and firm; her coat and energy level are superb. Only complaint: I wish they would make a smaller bag! I am older and smallish with a bad back and don’t like having to drag the 33# bag into the house. Also, the food might get stale by the time we get through the big bag which takes several weeks.

Pay attention to what you’re getting. My daughter has a Siberian Husky/pit mix whom took his dad’s tall slender body and thick TRI-color coat but his mom’s slick hair but both their mannerisms..ie., overly playful energetic ADHD talkative husky 😂 yet hard headed slyness like his mom😒. I have rescued an Alphapha Blue Blooded Bulldog that my daughter calls “Miss Chunky” because she’s muscularly stout which made my daughter question why her dog can’t seem to gain like mine. Although they’re different breeds, I explained a high protein and good fatty diet is key to healthy weight along with Appropriate exercise as her dog plays EXTREMELY too much which in turn burns a lot of calories. My dog isn’t really a playful dog but does play with my daughter’s dog more than usual (for the sake of getting along in a new home), but prefers to lay around watching and listening for trouble ie., as a (bulldog) guard dog does so she doesn’t burn off everything she eats.Such has created problems as my daughter’s dog aggravates, taunts, and preys on my dog as they’ve fought multiple times due to my daughter’s dog stealing my dogs bones and rawhides she’s hidden in her bed so she no longer trusts him- stated “resource guarding”. (Also dogs sense when other dogs have an issue with or ill-will toward them or their humans.) In this, there are times they’ve been separated for days as my daughter’s dog has attacked my dog 3 times which I’d been noticing her losing weight (stress and depression and feeling defeated as if I’m going to return her), some from being more active than she was at the shelter but most from worrying. I ordered a 37lb bag of this food due to price and ingredients in comparison to expensive “Bully Max” to see if helps my daughter’s dog gain and mine regain and maintain hers muscle weight. My first 24lb order was great as to it’s freshness, moisture, kibble size, and value in which both dogs gobbled up. My next order was the 37.5lb bag where I found it was bigger kibble, smelled different, and a bit dry/more crunchy. I checked my order thinking I’d ordered the wrong food or from a different seller and it seemed as if I did. So, I put what appeared to be the first bag I ordered in my cart on Subscription so I wouldn’t confuse them again- so I thought. The next bag I received was the same big kibble as the second which left me puzzled especially since it took them longer to eat the last bag (bigger kibble) as they really didn’t like it. I compared the picture on one bag to the one I’d added for Subscription and they weren’t different but I noticed the Seller had a Senior 7+ version option on the same page. I didn’t think anything of it as the bags’ pictures were different.I double checked my to make sure my UPCOMING order had “All Ages” for it and left it as that. Since didn’t change the subscription schedule (to accommodate less than 48lb bag I initially had in my cart), we were going to be out of food a week before the actual Subscription would arrive, I ordered a 6lb bag to hold over until delivery. The 6lb bag was correct (small moist kibble) which was really great for the dogs but confusing as hell to me. I thought I was crazy. I then double checked my upcoming delivery making sure the 48lb bag coming had the exact same picture, read “30/20 Sport, All Stages” just as the 6lb bag had and waited. Upon receipt of the 48lb bag, I was totally pissed to find the same BIG DRY KIBBLE again! Upon review of my order, I found the Title of this Seller’s page NOW reads “Purina Pro Plan Adult 7+ High Protein Senior Dry Dog Food & Wet Dog Food (Packaging May Vary)” with an Option for the “All Stages” OR “Adult 7+ Senior”.I figured I’d apparently been receiving the “big dry kibble Adult 7+Senior” food instead of the “smaller moist kibble All Ages”. I confirmed this on Purina’s site vs the last 2 bags I’d received and immediately contacted Amazon Customer Care. They confirmed what my order was supposed to be yet also realized the Seller changed the Title of it’s page to represent (Adult 7+ Senior) a different food which is what my orders shows on their end. The fact that the Title also now says “Packaging May Vary” speaks for itself as Purina packaging vs actual food DOESN’T vary. I was refunded for my last order and have since confirmed the “All Stages Sport” is in fact Smallest Kibble (see my pics) that’s intended to accommodate Puppies and Extra Small Dogs’ ability to eat, compared to regular sized/big kibble this Seller kept sending. My pics are what I ordered and received from Tractor Supply. I found they carry the 50lb bag for a few dollars more than this Seller’s 37lb bag AND offer Subscription Delivery Service as well.In the end, please know what you’re ordering and pay attention to what you’re receiving from this Seller. There’s a reason for having multiple pages Titled differently yet seeming to offer the same but different food. Unfortunately I’m one that’s found out why the hard way. At least I know what to expect from Tractor Supply despite the “New Look” of Purina’s bags.

Best food out there. I’ve been using ProPlan brand since it was a vet only food some 30 years ago. All my dogs have been on it since and they have so many different kinds it’s easy to find one that works as your dogs Health changes.

Our dogs love this food. We have this food on subscribe and save auto deliveries! We have found this food to be great for our dogs. Our dogs do not have any issues eating this food, no stomach issues or bathrooming issues at all! We like the subscribe and save option since we know this is good for our dogs and we will be purchasing more and more!

Dog is allerigic to chicken. yeah, my dog was allergic, but really liked the formula. Dog allergy lables should be put on the bags- a political thing for sure to interpret one day.

Breeder recommended. We have been feeding Purina pro plan to our puppy and this is what our breeders recommended that we move her to for adult food. So far so good! I feel confident, feeding Purina pro plan!
