Gentle on skin yet truly brushed out mats. I’m a retired professional pet groomer. I also love this brush at home. I’ve bought Ryan’s brushes for 20+ years because they are the best for fluffy hair -both cats and dogs. This works wonderfully to keep Doodles from getting too tangled. It pulls out winter coat from Shepards, Heelers, Labs, etc. I give them as gifts to friends with these types of pets, reminding them it works best with frequent use. I most treasure mine while blow drying a pet to straighten its hair before trimming. Dogs with more fragile skin such as Poodles, Bichons, Maltese, Lhasas, Shih Tzus, and elderly pets, need this soft tipped brush. Look carefully at the size before you order. Small are great for cats. XL is best for medium to large dogs. The extra cost is worth it! One of my brushes is 15+ years old and still great! *Hidden feature: try letting your cat rub its face against a clean brush. My cat now asks for this daily. I had to buy one more just for the little queen. Finally, she lets me brush her whole body without yelling. 🙂 Thanks, Ryan’s, for the range of excellent products on your site: ‘Ryan’s Pet Supply,’ but also for making these brushes easier to get by listing on Amazon.
Perfect for Goldendoodle Grooming. Unfortunately, a lot of people get “doodle” breed dogs thinking that since they are low shedding that they are also low maintenance. That’s only true if you plan on having them come home from the groomer looking like a shaved rat. If you want a fluffy doodle that is tangle free with a long coat and healthy skin, you need to brush them out regularly, preferably daily. That requires specific tools including a steel comb and slicker brush. From my experience, most metal combs are pretty similar, but there is a BIG difference in slicker brushes out there on the market today. Trust me, I have over 6 different brands of slicker brush and 3 different metal combs. I also recommend some sort of grooming table, as it will save your back and be easier and safer for your dog. At this point I use the metal comb, this slicker brush, and my Chris Christensen slicker brush to maintain my dog’s coat daily between regular grooming (every 3-4 weeks). This brush is much stiffer than other slicker brushes I have. It’s perfect for areas like the legs, feet, and behind the tail where mats tend to form. If you go very slow and careful with the brushing and stay on top of the grooming, it’s a painless and enjoyable bonding experience for both you and your dog! After brushing out the problem areas with this stiff Paw Brothers slicker brush, I will comb over the area with my metal comb to make sure no tangles remain.Last, I use the Chris Christensen brush to finish up because it’s much softer and good for fluffing up the dog and making her look great. The Chris Christensen brush is too soft though to get out the underlying tangles in a very long coat though, which is why this Paw Brothers brush is so good.My only complaint, is that because the brush is so stiff, it’s a little difficult to get the hair out of it. On my Chris Christensen brush I can run my comb through it and vacuum it up to pick up the hair, but this one stays pretty messy. Not too big a deal for most people but I’m a little OCD and don’t like to leave hair everywhere. When I first brought home my Goldendoodle, I had already done all the research and thought I was well prepared by buying the most expensive grooming tools (Chris Christensen). But as her coat got longer and more difficult to manage, my groomer suggested I try out this inexpensive brush, which I think is a steal and excellent value. It has been a game changer and shaved off 15 minutes from daily brushing. You don’t need $100 brushes to maintain your dog, just time and patience. You can get both this brush and a metal comb for like $20 or so combined and it will be enough to maintain your doodle!Hope this was helpful and good luck maintaining your goldendoodle!!

Works great on my standard poodle. When I asked my groomer to recommend a brush so that I can keep my standard poodle looking good, she showed me what her shop sold. Pretty expensive. But I came to Amazon to find something similar for less, and this long-pin slicker brush has exceeded my expectations. It’s similar to what my dog has become accustomed to at the groomer so he’s mellow with it. And it does a fantastic job, keeping his coat more tamed than it had become. This brush is comfortable to use for me, and while the pins look insubstantial, they are so far staying in the brush and doing a great job with my boy’s hair.
Easy to use and handle but has plastic nubs. I purchased this slicker brush because of the size and the finer bristles to be used on my Poodle who has soft curly hair. However, I must not have read the fine detail before purchasing as I was disappointed when I unpacked to find it has small plastic nubs that can cause dragging and pulling which defeats the purpose of a slicker brush. It would be perfect for a short haired cat or dog coat that does not need professional grooming but I would not recommend on a dog or cat that has long hair or curly hair as more of a risk to pull when trying to brush. The size is small so for a larger dog, it would not have the coverage needed for adequate brushing. Better size for a small dog or a cat. I will give this brush to a charity as it is a quality brush just not meeting the needs of a pet with curly hair.
Good small slicker. I purchased this for use on a Shih Tzu. Many slickers have hard pins which our dogs does not like as it hurts. This brush helps keep the coat mat free without harming the dog. So I like it. It is smaller than I expected, more cat size however it is working well. I may purchase a large size for my larger dog.
Perfect for my Cavalier King Charles. I brush my little girl daily. (Other than the shedding, she’s perfect!) When I got her, I tried 1/2 dozen different brushes, including several that were self-cleaning. Those were thick, and it made it more awkward to brush around her limbs. I have no problem working the hair out of the brush. I recommend the small brush if you have a smallish dog whose hair isn’t too thick (maybe a straight-haired dog).
Nice slicker for long coats, good inexpensive alternative to CC brushes. First off–PLEASE educate yourself on how to use a slicker brush properly before using this on an animal. It is NOT like using a pin-type brush. The pins of a slicker are sharp and will irritate the skin if you push down on the brush. This is universal to all slickers, not just this one, but if you try it and think there must be something wrong with the brush because your pet won’t let you brush them–it’s probably how you’re using the brush, not the brush itself.I got this to use on my Newfie as she’s growing her coat back out–she came to me having been clipped down by previous owners. It tangles up very easily and so she needs brushing A LOT. The longer pins are ideal for dogs with lots of coat. If you have 2 or 3 giant dogs with that much coat, this brush probably isn’t going to hold up, and you should invest in a CC slicker (with the denser pins–makes for quicker work, in addition to a large working surface). If you’re a professional groomer, you definitely need something on that level. But if you are a pet owner who is just maintaining your dog in between groomer visits and you can’t quite stomach paying $50+ for one brush for your dog…this is probably the best option I’ve found. The quality is not poor, by any means, it just isn’t super top-of-the-line, going to last for decades. At some point, you really do get what you pay for, but you should ask yourself, what kind of quality do you NEED?The handle is nicer than the handle of the universal-style slicker brushes ,where they’re just a plastic cylinder with some ridges. It’s got raised rubber bits for grip on the bottom and top of the handle, as well as on top of the slicker area and right at the base of the slicker area on the business side. This is really nice because it gives you traction to grasp the handle whether you’re brushing with or against the coat, and the grip on top of the slicker can accommodate your index finger or your thumb, depending on how you want to hold the brush. Sometimes, it’s nice just to have options and switch your hold if your wrist or hand is getting sore. Sometimes, you need to grip the brush a certain way to get the right angle against the dog you’re brushing, who, even if very well-behaved, isn’t generally 100% unmoving.I’ve been using this for over a month and it’s holding up very well. I do feel like maybe the pins aren’t set into the base as well as they could be–I have a few that seem to have bent at the base or look like they’re trying to rotate? But then again, this brush has been knocked down a few times by 120 pounds of very enthusiastic dog, which might have something to do with it. I like the metal crimps holding the base with the pins down–it seems potentially sturdier than those with plastic housing.Like any slicker brush, you’re generally going to have to clean hair out of it with a comb. If a ton of coat is stuck onto it, you can roll it down, off the pins, but it’s more effective as a brush if it’s not full of hair already. Do NOT try to pull small amounts of hair off with your fingers. The pins are a great length for cuticle-stabbing. (It’s so tempting to try if you forgot to grab the comb, but DON’T DO IT! Trust me!)I’ve also used this on my GSD/Aussie/Collie/Chow/a bunch of other breeds mix who, while he doesn’t have anywhere near as much hair as a Newfie, has a TON of undercoat (thank you, Chow heritage!) It pulls out that undercoat SO WELL and he tolerates it much better than he does any other brushes.I only gave it 4 of 5 stars in easy to clean and easy to use, but that’s really just because it’s a slicker brush–it’s not any harder to clean than any other slicker I’ve had with pins this long (the shorter pinned ones, you can usually get away with cleaning them with your fingers more), and it’s no harder to use than any other similar brush. It’s just not necessarily an inborn skill, how to brush with one of these correctly. So if you’re new to slicker brushing, do yourself and your pet a favor, check out some instructional videos or ask your groomer, breeder, mentor, whoever to show you how to do it correctly to keep from scratching the skin.
Works well, just wish it came in a smaller size for my small pups. I have ordered 2 of these brushes in the past year. They both held up well (I had to buy the 2nd one because I lost the first). I recommend these brushes for toy poodles, as I have 2 and they need to be brushed daily to prevent matting. The price point is phenomenal for the quality. The brush is sturdy and the pins stay in well even through bad tangles. The handle is comfortable and easy to hold. My girls are under 5 pounds and I start brushing softly and work my way closer down to their skin, doing light strokes as to not hurt them. They do not dislike being brushed when I do it this way and initially was hesitant about using long hard pins on them for fear it would be painful and thought soft pins would be the way to go, but that isn’t the case and I am very happy with this type of brush. My girls never cry or wince or try to escape from it. They are not afraid of it and it really detangles very well compared to other slicker brushes around the same price point I have used.My only suggestion would be to make the “extra long pin” brush in a smaller size. It’s a little difficult to use on my dog’s legs and hard-to-reach areas. I know there is a smaller brush offered but it has soft pins instead. I would love the same size as the small offering with the extra long hard pins.

Excellent tool. My long hair GSD and his hair! LOL .. This brush does the trick and combs thru his hair well. The length of the bristles are perfect for his long hair. It removes a lot of the undergrowth and he seems to enjoy being brushed again. What I really like is how easy it is now to brush out behind his back legs where the hair is really dense. So far its kept this fur mat free!

Great brush for my GPD. I am genuinely pleased with my decision to purchase this brush for my Great Pyrenees. It performs exceptionally well on his coat. The handle is designed to fit comfortably in my hand, and he appeared to be quite comfortable with the brushing process. Given the texture of his hair, removing the hair is relatively effortless. The brush appears to be durable, but only time will tell for certain.

Easy to use and works great. Easy to use, light, durable, has a nice appealing look. It works well on my DSH Tortie and she enjoys the feel while I brush her! It must feel like a massage to her…and I get a lot of hair removed under her medium thickness coat. Great value!
It Works. This product is good because it works well on my dogs coat and leaves her soft and beautiful.
Doodle required bush. I wish I had found this brush sooner. I have 3 labradoodles and have always kept their coats short because most slicker brushes don’t go deep enough to prevent matting when their coats become long. This brush does the job and does it well. I have an elderly girl who’s coat has thinned and tends to have sensitive skin, of my 3 she was the only one who didn’t like it but to be fair she doesn’t care for any brushing unless it’s done by hand (petting her)Having 3 labradoodles can become costly when it comes to professional grooming and I’m glad that I decided to invest in a nice set of clippers and a few blades as well as guards (andis agc 2 speed, cuts like butter even through matting), a grooming table found on local resale site for $30, good shampoo (Plum silky concentrated conditioning shampoo) this shampoo smells amazing and keeps them smelling nice for over a week and since it’s concentrated a bottle really last so I find it more economical than the cheap ones found at most retailers. Oh, also purchased a pet blow dryer for under 100 that is amazing. This brush was the last thing I needed to complete what I feel is necessary to keep my trio looking, smelling, and feeling their best. The cost i incurred is about equivalent to taking all 3 to a groomer. For those who think they can’t do it, you can. Especially if you’ve got a dog or dogs that require a lot of grooming needs (doodles, poodles, etc) if you messaged up, it’s ok! Their hair grows pretty quickly and unlike us humans their egos aren’t an issue. They’ll still love you as you learn even if you make them look ugly a few times
Good quality. Works perfectly for my standard poodle, the bristles are perfect length to get through his fur when it grows out.
My dog loves it. The rubberized tips on this make it a much easier experience when brushing my big old wolf hybrid. He doesn’t fuss nearly as much as with the straight wire brush. Anyway, it’s very ergonomic in the hand and much easier for the both of us.
Would recommend. This brush is 10 out of 10. I would recommend for hard to brush doodles. I have purchased a very expensive version of this and I will grab this one every time.
