Came from a Cosori and other models. Edit: I have had this model for one and a half years. The coating on the interior grills–the removeable pieces–are showing very slight wear and tear. It is still truly no-stick, so it’s a non-issue. I heard they are replaceable too. This is still an outstanding purchase and I am happy I have it. I use this between 3-7 days a week too, so lots of time using this.Original Review:I was disappointed with Cosori brand, having the coating coming off and the basket not staying in the air fryer etc. And I wanted a larger Air Fryer and this seemed like the only option. I heard Ninja was/is reliable and I wanted to try it. I am very glad I did, even though at first I wasn’t an immediate fan.First, this device is far more accurate than the other air fryers I have owned. Temperature actually is regulated and controlled. The modes for cooking are meaningful choices (there is a difference between Air Fryer, Bake, Roast and other modes). I feel like I have actual options for cooking. I can use broil mode for carrots on one side and the bake option for Pilsbury Dough Crescent Rolls in the other.Second, the no-stick coating is legit. Cleanup is a breeze. It is leaps and bounds easier than any other air fryer I’ve used (I’ve owned two, but used many more). There is currently no wearing off of this coating in any way whatsoever. Other areas of the basket that don’t have this coating have a slight wearing of the exterior coat, but it’s nowhere near the food and to be expected.Third, baskets fit nicely into the receptacle and stay in place. This is something I had issues with in other brands and am pleasantly surprised here.Fourth, you can actually turn the basket upside down to dump the contents without losing the inner cooking “grate” or “grill” thanks to the silicone feet they have. You do have to ensure the feet are properly in place before cooking as over time they move out of position. However, they have stayed in place while dumping almost every time. There are some slight caveats with this device, but I don’t see them as anything warranting a problem or really even a negative. They are mostly considerations.- You need to have some knowledge of air fryers before using this to the best of its capabilities. It doesn’t hold your hand. It won’t remind you to shake up a side, or have some presets for cooking that could help someone new to air fryers. Also, because of the way it is designed, it will need you to shake up a side more often than other airfryers that have a basket within a basket design (that makes the airflow guaranteed).- Cook time is slower when using both sides and needs to be adjusted as such. In my opinion it is better to cook less rather than more if in doubt. Especially with meat that needs to be thoroughly cooked (like chicken thighs as an example).- The 10 quart size is mostly depth rather than width. This means if you are cooking something like a whole bag of tatertots, you WILL have to supervise it by shaking them often during the cook time.- The way the airflow is designed means you have to keep the sides of the basket somewhat clear in order to get the true air fryer crispness you are looking for.- Since air temperature in the baskets are more accurate, this device puts out more heat into the room (it will expel excess hot air to keep the temperature inside accurate)- Unlike other air fryers, it doesn’t stop cooking when you remove a basket to shake. Hot aire blows into the room and you have to manually press stop. This could be a plus for some people, but it’s worth noting here.- Using the option to conclude cooking at the same time could be problematic since you often have to adjust cook times while using an air fryer. I wouldn’t consider this a huge feature for buying this device. Some real bonuses- In my experience so far, since the baskets are deep rather than wide, the coil at the top of each side is nowhere near as dirty as other airfryers since the oil/juice popping up during cooking doesn’t always reach the coils.- The temperature is fairly accurate inside- The cleanup is just beyond easy, especially having owned other air fryers that supposedly had non-stick.- Being able to cook two whole chickens–as an example– or two of anything as large as whole chickens makes this unit shine over pretty much all current air fryers.- The outside and inside cleans really easily- All the buttons are tactile and I haven’t had a single issue with the device having issues of any sort or button presses that weren’t registering.
UPDATE: Most Valued Item in My Kitchen. UPDATED AFTER 6 WEEKS OF USE:This has become the most valued item in my kitchen. I’ve enjoyed immense benefit from using this to replace my use of the oven. In the past six weeks I’ve used my oven only twice, to cook a pizza. Everything that comes out of this Foodi is hands down better than it ever was in the oven. I use it on average about 4 times a week for meals. I use both baskets 80% of the time. When I use both baskets, I use the smart finish feature about 75% of the time. No preheat necessary. I found that I can mostly guess the right time for things that don’t have air fryer instructions, it’s that easy going of an appliance, and it’s that hard to mess up! The crisper plates are great for letting grease fall and so things come out tastier and not soggy. An added bonus for me is that it’s super easy to clean! Both baskets fit into the top shelf of my dishwasher and the crisper plates go at the bottom. It’s non stick and comes out very clean in dishwasher. (Note: I do not use the heated air dry, but it sounds like it would work with heated dry on.) As of yet, I have not had to clean the compartments the baskets go into, they seem to remain very clean to the touch. I use the top to place whatever utensil I am using to grab things out during cooking, and then I wipe down the top. The top does not get hot at all.Even though it only goes up to 400 degrees (for everything except air broil, which goes up to 450, on one basket at a time, not both at a time), I find that I don’t need higher than that for things that call for 425 or 450 degrees. 400 works for everything so far. I just add a few minutes. My favorite thing to cook so far: air broil at 400 frozen burger patties, no need to thaw. basket 2: curly fries. Both are done at 14 minutes, flipping the patties over halfway through. Easiest 15 minute 2 burgers half basket of fries dinner ever!ORIGINAL REVIEW:This is my first air fryer. I am pleasantly surprised. It exceeded expectations. I’m a middle-aged perpetual bachelor who’s culinary talents max out at backing chicken breasts and simultaneously using the stovetop to cook rice. Most things for me come in boxes with three instructions or less, and pictures. This enhances that experience for me. In just the few days since I got it I made burgers, chicken, fries, cooked a half ham. It is much better than the oven for sure and the food comes out better. Less oily or soggy for sure.BUT – I was shocked to learn that you can turn the unit on without the baskets inside. If you have kids, this may be a problem. The heating element is easy to reach inside and touch, it’s just above the cooking baskets. I can see this as posing a serious problem if you have curious children who like to push buttons and reach inside of things. I mean, this device doesn’t have a sense detector that says, hey there’s no basket, let’s not turn on. You can fully set up cooking time and temp and with no basket in, press start and it will start cooking. A bit shocking to me considering all of the safeguards I thought were in place for kids when products hit the market.
Best Air Fryer Yet. We were a little late to the air fryer party. A couple of months age we got the Ninja 5 Qt. air fryer, but realized we really needed a unit that has the capability and capacity to do two items at once. Since we liked the original Ninja unit so much we decided to get this Ninja DZ401.The DZ401 has a smart finish function that aids in two different things, at different temp and time settings to be finished at the same time. This helps with mixing up vegetable intake so you don’t have to eat salad everyday. Vegetables do well. We especially like asparagus, okra, and broccoli in this machine. Nothing takes more than 15 minutes, with most option less than 10 minutes. The controls are straight forward, just set the temp and the time. Cleaning the baskets and trays is really easy since they are coated so nothing really sticks to it.There really isn’t anything to complain about with this air fryer. It even looks really nice on the countertop. All in all, I consider this a game changer in how to have a variety foods with ease. Just go easy on how often you make fries! It’s way too simple and fast. We plan on getting another soon!
My best purchase EVER. Nina DZ401: I spent way too much time in my kitchen getting my meals prepared for my diet. I’ve had and used an air fryer for a long time. Problem was only could fry a small amount at a time and I spent a long time preparing and air frying my meals. I have only had this a week and I’ve already air fried apple chips, zucchini chips, pork loin-pictured(I purposely browned the top to get the crunchy it’s not over cooked), frozen diced precooked chicken. I can’t wait to bake and dehydrate fruits. I no longer am in a hot kitchen this summer. It has 2 baskets you can cook at 2 different temperatures and times. I can cook my granddaughter her fries on one side at the same time I’m doing my zucchini chips. I’ve only left a very few reviews even if I liked the product I purchased, but everybody needs to know how simple this is to use. By the way, I’m 73 years old so if I can do it so can you. Sincerely my best purchase ever.
Great functionality but small baskets. I’ve only discovered how great air fryers are in the last three years. And I use them on a daily basis. I have this Ninja air fryer and two Gourmia air fryers. Each one is used depending on what I am cooking. While the Ninja has the dual (mirror) cook baskets and the interior nonstick coating is amazing (not so with the Gourmia) the 10 quart feature is misleading. As each basket is only 5 quarts. And you don’t really have 5 quarts to use as the baskets are small and deep. I thought I could cook two whole chickens in it but that wasn’t happening. I could half one chicken and maybe fit half in each side. Maybe. I do really enjoy the option of cooking two things at once. You can set it to cook both sides at once at different times and temperatures or identical time and temperature for both sides at the same time with the mirror cook option. And the nonstick coating on the interior is amazing so far. It is by far the easiest to clean of my three air fryers. But I really wish they would make this same air fryer with two baskets at 8-10 quarts each and not so deep for more usable space. That would be amazing. And I also wish the cook temp went up to 450° f instead of just 400°. While my Gourmia does cook better the Ninja is easier to clean and having two baskets is a plus. Now if I could combine these features into one air fryer with bigger baskets I would be so happy. I gave it 4 stars because of the tiny baskets.
Easy cooking. Cook large and small amounts.Multiple items at same time, with different temperatures and times but finish at Same time
Best Air Fryer I Have Owned. My favorite air fryer. Works great. Tons of room in the baskets. Two time/temp zones or run one or the other or match the two together. Tons of different functions other than just air fryer. I use it to reheat meat from the night before with the reheat function. Such a great air fryer that I’ve bought two more for friends, and they love theirs too. It’s super quiet. It’s all the high quality you’d expect out of a Ninja.
Fabulous. This is the best air fryer. We loved our other one but have the dual basket option is amazing. Also the match cook and smart finish features are excellent! Quality item
My favorite appliance. I love this model! We have twins and I need two baskets for two different foods! It cooks sides and main dish at once! It has no funky smell. Cleans so easy and very easy to use. It is worth every penny!
One of my best purchases. Price was excellent but has gone up considerably. Easy to use and clean. Very durable. Cooks well.
