  1. Another Moto giving great Bang for the Buck. I previously owned a Moto X Pure which I loved. It gave up the ghost on it while getting a battery replacement, and I ended up buy an Xiaomi Redmi 8a which although was gentle on the wallet, it was a device I came to loathe. I could feel the CCP’s hot breath listening in to my life whenever I used it. Recently I started getting nasty notes from Cricket Wireless about how my 8a, (which ran on 3G), would be left behind in the dust of ever advancing modernity as they, (and AT&T), were pushing on into 5G, (well, in some places anyway and they would be dropping 3G service altogether. After looking at truly every single 5G phone which would be compatible with the new 5G standard AT&T would be using, the only device within a reasonable price range was the Moto G 5G in the choices of colors of silver, silver or silver. The next closest phone was at least $100 more. So exercising my powerful sense of fashion I purchased the Moto G 5G in…, silver. What am I crying about? I always put a rubber or silicone goulash on the outside of the thing anyway, so the fact that the backside was silver mattered not an iota. But this was where the trouble started. Amazon, which once was very good about producing the item you were looking for by following your search terms to the letter, now pimps crap that has absolutely nothing to do with the search words you used. Nada, none.To make matters worse, the variations in naming conventions employed by Motorola, especially for the Moto product line, leaves much to be desired. And all of these phones’ dimensions vary just enough to not be compatible with similarly named phones. So after much time from my life frustratingly devoted to deciphering the EXACT dimensions of the Moto G 5G, I found one that should do the trick, within a few tenths of a millimeter, (aka a gnat’s ass). Which phone’s footprint matched the Moto G 5G the closest without actually being a G 5G you ask? The Moto One, (and not the Moto G Stylus, curiously enough). Now I would have docked the phone at least another 2 stars as an act of petty vengeance save for one thing. The Moto G 5G is an outstanding phone. There is nothing that compares, especially considering just how much less it costs and how many features it delivers compared to any competition. If I were to have a beef, (and I do but it’s one I have with all phones these days), is that the phone’s battery needs to be much more accessible for the day a couple of years from now when it gives up the charging ghost. And considering the price these hucksters are charging for new phones these days, it’s criminal what we let them get away with if one factors in the E-waste these things create simply because the cell phone companies don’t want you upgrading or servicing your phone, they want you dropping ANOTHER $600 – $1200 for a NEW phone, every effin’ 2 years. So this phone, at $259 (in February 2022), is an absolute steal. Or highway robbery. Or both. Which sounds weird, yet totally truthful. So what do I like? 1.) Shaking it like an ugly step-child turns the flashlight on. Shaking it again turns it off. No looking for the right button in the dark. (By the way, please do not try this with your own ugly step-child. Nothing will happen save some loud complaining.) 2.) You can change/ move app icons around. 3.) It’ll hotspot if you’re paying a little extra for that service. This is very handy and very secure when trying to use your laptop in a motel/hotel room somewhere. 4.) It will let you make phone calls using wifi. 5.) It has a 5,000 mAh battery, which is a plus, (but not being able to buy an aftermarket one that holds say 6,800 mAhs with an aftermarket back cover is a drawback, ( but no stars taken away). 6.) I like the way she says, “Hello, Moto!” in that sexy Asian-ish woman’s voice every time I power her up.I’d sure like to wipe Android 10 right off her face and install Linux, and maybe I will in the future, but I’ll wait to see if someone else does it and leaves me an instructable somewhere as to how to do it safely. I’ve worked very hard to de-Google my life, and yeah, I get that doing so would void my warranty, but I really do not like the Evil Alphabet and look for every chance NOT to use them whenever possible. Making a leap like that though is not for the faint of heart or short of tech savvy.Would I buy it again? Yes. Would I recommend it to a friend? Absolutely yes. Do I wish they made it in other colors? Yes, please. Can I live with a silver phone? You bet.

  2. I got mine working AFTER the ATT 3g sunset. I learned to like this phone after my Samsung s20 was stolen. Well last week the ATT 3g was shut off in our area in Western PA and my phone went dead. ATT reps pushed me into one of their new phones, but after doing homework, ATT has this phone on their compatibility list sunset document dated 3/9/22. (Just search for the pdf). With this ammo I dealt with chat and phone support about 6 times and they FINALLY got it working. I don’t know if I needed it, but I did get a new sim card. From what I read, they don’t like unlocked phones on their system they don’t sell. You need to be firm and tell them your phone NEEDS provisioned or allowed to work on their network. It is a back end allowance on their side…it won’t just work unless they allow it. They sent multiple software updates to my phone. One eventually worked. I then took back the $700 phone they made me buy, AND had to pay a restocking fee! That’s my next fight, getting back all the money they needlessly made me spend, let alone lost time and headache! Not happy with how ATT treated me. A switch may be in sight soon. Btw, my model or SKU# is XT2113-3. If you have this it will definitely work!

  3. not Dual Sim. Nice phone — RAM, storage, processor, 5G, screen size.ANNOYING that it’s not dual Sim as advertised in Amazon product description.Model received is Telcel branded, model XT2113-3, and even the instructions in the box state Dual Sim. I wonder if the carrier modified the Sim tray and hardware config somehow to allow only single Sim…For what I paid, not worth hassle of returning

  4. does not mirrorcast if you dont have chrome cast…. booo. good phone, but the fact that I cant mirror cast without a tv with chromecast is a no go for me!.. bOOalso the volume is very low on the speakers. and ringtones…

  5. Works well in US and Europe, including Mint Mobile. I bought this to be able to keep a second SIM card in it for easy transition between phone plans during international travel. It worked very well for me. I use Mint Mobile in the U.S. and a Spanish Orange plan in Europe/Spain. It was easy to switch between services without having to switch out SIM cards, since I was able to install both SIM cards into the phone and then just switch between the two in the phone’s settings as needed while traveling. Note that after you switch to a different SIM card, you may need to also switch the data to the other SIM card. Both of those things can be found in the phone’s settings. I also found that I needed to enter a PIN number when switching to the Spain SIM card, but that may have been specific to that particular plan, and I was able to bypass that and get into my phone before entering the PIN (I didn’t have the SIM card’s PIN memorized and had to look it up where I had saved that information on my phone).Note that if you use the second slot for a second SIM card, you will not be able to add a micro SD card. However, the phone has 128 GB of internal storage, so that has not been a problem for me. Overall, the phone has worked very well and I’m happy with it.
