Great dehydrator with just some minor faults. Overall, this is a pretty great dehydrator! I started with some apple slices and then tried some banana chips (those take awhile!) and then finally today some jerky.I purchased a 5.7 lb package of eye of round already sliced to 1/4” thick and split into two different flavors of jerky; a Sweet and Spicy and a Jerky Lovers Ghost Pepper.Before putting the jerky in the dehydrator, I figured I would break out my Fieldpiece Dual Temp Thermometer and check the actual grate temp at a thermostat setting of 165 degrees. This is a professional meter (I am in the HVAC industry) and I wove the temp probe through the grate to get a temperature at the grate. The probe was calibrated in ice water to 32 degrees prior to this test. I tested at the middle grate position, the top and the bottom. Temps were very even and was let run for 20 minutes to make sure it had time to heat. As you can see in the photo, the temp was consistently 122 degrees in all positions with the temp set at 165 degrees.I am not sure where Magic Mill locates their thermostat probe, but I am guessing it may be near the heating element causing false operations.If a guy wants to make jerky, these temps can be a concern as getting beef to at least 160 degrees is a good idea to kill possibly dangerous microbes. I knocked a star off for this reason. I may look into where the probe is located and see if it could be relocated somewhere different to sense box temp more accurately. I think I will call Magic Mill first to see if they can give me any ideas.Other than that, I only have one additional gripe and that is the unit is pretty flimsy once you remove the grates from it. Obviously, the grates keep the box square when installed, but the box seems to be made mostly of plastic and doesn’t have much of a rigid frame. Again, at this price point, this is to be expected!When the unit is running, it is VERY quiet. Airflow is great due to a large diameter fan prop in the rear cabinet. The beeps ARE quite loud, but I have the dehydrator in our pantry (which is a different room) and it doesn’t bother me and I can still hear it in my living room, so for my application it works.In conclusion, this is a great dehydrator at a great price and includes 10 metal screens, 2 fruit leather shelves and one silicone screen for herbs and sticky fruits (bananas). I will probably order more of the silicone screens from Magic Mill so I can dry peppers and herbs next season. The digital display is easy to read and easy to use and the temperature range is a nice feature. I set the unit to 95 degrees, pulled out the screens and placed my stainless mixing bowl unit with some bread dough to proof and in an hour, the dough had more than doubled in size, so another great feature! The recipe book includes some directions about culturing yogurt in the machine as well and is a nice mention, as I never thought of using the Magic Mill in that fashion.I will update this review if I find out anything about the temperature accuracy and also when the jerky currently in the machine is done.UPDATE: Jerky turned out pretty great! Had it at 165 and ran for about 5 hours. So much easier and faster than the old round stacking style I had with no fan! Thumbs WAY up! 👍🏻
Far Exceeds My Expectations. I bought this dehydrator on Prime Day because:1) It was about $70’ish discounted2) It has dishwasher safe metal trays3) It included two fruit leather trays & a couple of fine-mesh screen trays4) Is a a brand I recognize5) Has pretty strong reviewsI have been running it nearly non-stop since it was delivered. So far, I’ve dehydrated apricots, bananas, two different types of fruit leather (strawberry/pineapple/banana; peach/apple w/a splash of vanilla extract & a sprinkle of cinnamon — tastes like a peach/apple pie!), and a ton of pineapple slices (add a sprinkle of tajin for a little kick!). And while it’s easy to clean (dishwasher safe metal trays!), what l love most about this thing is how quiet it is!! I was assuming it would too loud to have in the kitchen, or even in the house, and had even already identified where I would run it out in the garage. But, it’s quiet enough to have in the kitchen. And, at the rate we’re going through pineapple rings and fruit leather, I think I won’t have to worry about where to store it when not in use, because it’s going to continue to be constantly in use :)The only question / concern I have is that in the operations manual, it states to NOT run this dehydrator for continuously more than 24 hours at a time, and yet the timer is able to be set for far more than that. If it needs to be turned off for a few hours after 24 hours, then why make the timer longer than 24 hours?
Great Product – Great Customer Service. I ordered the Magic Mill Dehydrator to make jerky and other dehydrated foods for backpacking and camping. When it arrived, there was a cracked corner where the door attaches, even though the packing and packaging was some of the best and most conscientious I have ever seen. And the part in question seemed very strong, well engineered, good material. Must have just been dropped in shipping or something.Magic Mill quickly made good on the issue, when I emailed them with pics. I don’t fault them at all for the issue, as the appliance was so well made and so well packed by them. And as so many other reviews suggest, the appliance works exceptionally well, uniform dehydration, great trays, good temp control and timing.
Love this dehydrator. I’ve never owned a dehydrator, so nothing to compare it to. I truly expected it to be kind of loud while running, but it is as silent as a church mouse. Love that about it. I have primarily used it for dehydrating my parsley, oregano and basil. Basil takes FOREVER, but that’s because it’s basil. I like that I can set the timer and go to bed and not worry about it. I am now using it to dehydrate the tomato peels from making tomato sauce. When I started my search for a dehydrator, I didn’t want a plastic stacking one. It needed to fit on a shelf in my garage. It needed to have a door that opened up with a hinge. I wanted the time/temp controls on the front. This dehydrator has met every single one of my requirements. Looking forward to making many more things in it. I highly recommend this one.
Arrived and was put to work immediately. This great! Splurged for myself, based on the amt of fruit we are getting and how fast my plastic trays are breaking. Chose this item for the 10 metal racks and it’s sale price. (I’ve being using plastic dehydrators without any timer, and the racks break constantly.) The air fryer works great but is so loud!It’s first run of fruit (apricots, peaches, pears and apples) and jerky, see pics above, came out great! Tried the fruit roll ups, it’s going to take some time to master the mix and for timing, but it tasted great. (Better once it’s cooled too!)The reviews about it being loud…. have never used an air-fryer to dehydrate. This was not loud at all to me, couldn’t even hear it over the TV! Nothing was broken upon delivery, based on reviews I was a little worried.Overall very happy. Works as advertised. *Haven’t tried the hanging sausage and meat thing.
Nice size, easy to use. First off, I have no prior experience with dehydrator so I came in pretty green. It came well-packaged and with good literature. I’ve double checked the tempatures with an analog thermometer and all was well on each account. It’s not terribly loud, though that is a bit subjective. So far so good! I will update if my experience changes.
Easy to clean, dries great. This machine is amazing, I love how much you can put in it at a time. I make my own dog treats out of raw meat and you can make a lot at once, I also like to make jurky and fruit for myself as well. Cleannup is a breeze. I haven’t had it long enough to see how long it last, but I am hopefully I will have it for many years to come.
Great Dehydrator. I bought this dehydrator to help increase the volume I can process. During the peak times of the season, I just didn’t have enough capacity, and this certainly brought more. I have enjoyed the quality of this unit. It does a great job of drying foods, and so far it seems to have very evenly distributed heat. I can’t speak to how it will hold up over the years, but I have used it several times since purchasing it and have no complaints. I also like the ability to set a countdown clock to turn off so that foods are not overcooked. My other dehydrator relies on me to do that I am less reliable than the clock!
Huge improvement over my old dehydrator. I’m so glad I decided to get this dehydrator. I had an old one that had round plastic trees and little pieces of it started breaking off. The heat was only at the bottom so I had to rotate the trays several times through the process.But this dehydrator is terrific. It dried in half the time. I did choose to turn the trays around once, but not sure I really needed to. Love this!
This my favorite thing ever. I can not express how much I love this thing! If you’re debating between another one and this …pick this! (Unless its a commercial grade dehydrator, then obviously..)
Extend your food storage. This thing dried 25lbs of pears, 18 lbs of apples, 15lbs of Asian pears, a dozen zucchini, 8lbs of shrooms, and countless batches of thyme, sage, oregano, lavender, rosemary, onion, garlic, and peppers. Must-have for gardeners.
Works beautifully. My son uses this dehydrator for making jerky and loves it. I use it for drying leaves for tea. It’s easy to use, the racks hold a lot of product and the drying times are good. It feels durable, it looks nice on the counter and has a lot of space for whatever you’re processing. Very happy with this purchase.

EXCELLENT HOME UNIT; VERY QUIET OPERATION. I have been using this unit for a couple months now. It does an excellent job dehydrating vegetables, fruits and meats. The unit is much quieter than my other unit (Nesco; also, a wonderful product). I wanted a second unit to help with my garden overflow. I am very pleased with this unit. I would purchase again if I needed another unit.
Does what it says. Only used so far for jerky, works well, definitely listen to instructions about rotating trays. Easy to use, decent size and temperature control
Nice dehydrator. Works great and is very quiet while in operation. Easy to use! Have only used this a few times, therefore I only give it four stars. If it continues to work well I would be willing to upgrade the review to five stars.
3 Years and going strong. Love this product. I’ve owned one since 2021 and had zero issues. So much better that the old plastic tray round heating element models I started with. It dries even and you can really pack in a lot of food. This machine does such a great job. I grow herbs year round like basil, rosemary, thyme, and sage in my hydro unit and fill it up weekly. It also takes on all the veggies I can grow in my outside garden as well as the occasional beef jerky. I’ve even gotten bushels of apples and other fruits to dry and this product has exceeded my expectations. I’m planning on ordering another unit soon as a gift!!
I like this dehydrator it is really good. I like this dehydrator really good design. I like that it is racks instead of cylinders. I like the idea you can hang meat in it for making jerky without being on the racks themselves. It’s not horribly good very very quiet pretty easy to operate and does a good job of dehydrating I don’t dehydrate a ton. I wanna get more into it, but this is a really nice machine. General meals has been around for a long time. I wish there was an on and off button. That’s my only complaint. It’s always on when it’s plugged in.

Good Product for any user. I am always skeptical with any Amazon purchase. But, I am pleased with this dehydrator. I would have given this a five star except that I would of liked it to have a better electrical panel. For example, there is no pause button. It’s just and up and down button. It’s a good product, and it is still easy to use and it comes with plenty trays. It also comes with one liquid tray which can be used at the bottom to capture any spillage. It’s large enough to fit a turkey to give you a better picture/idea. And the machine is very light weight so it will be easy to move around.

Works great and saves time. I had gone through three of the plastic type round dehydrators. After going through cracked trays that I couldn’t find replacements for or cost almost as much as total hydrator I decided to to invest in a more practical solution. When the new hydrator came I was a little surprised by size and weight. It was about the size and weight of my 800 watt microwave. Simple to use and the stainless steel trays are easy to clean. I am confident that the units durability will last much much longer then any I have purchased before. There is no question as to the taste of final product being dehydrated. I use mostly for making ground chicken or ground turkey treats for our pups and grand pups. So far after a week I am on the fourth pound of ground meat and (two pounds of steak strips for myself 😋😋). I feel that the way it is made and as often as I use it the value for the money is easily justified. For two pounds of ground meat it only uses four full trays and a little on the fifth. I could easily dehydrate five pounds of ground meat at a time. It dehydrates much more evenly and quicker then any of the round plastic ones I have used. However, big difference in wattage. Must make sure you do not overload the circuits you use for this unit. Another reminder is to be sure to use in an open area. It does get hot and blows out hot air on top vent. I also like the visual temp and count down timer. If your tired of using the plastic dehydrators and running into replacing the shelves then I suggest you upgrade. This unit I would recommend.
Good, fast but tricky to set temp and time. Works fast but it is tricky to set the time and temperature, which tends to go back to the original setting very quickly. But it is a quiet machine and holds a lot.

Awesome machine. I’ve used the round plastic machines, no comparison to this. This dehydrators capacity is well worth the extra money. The 800-watt machine is super easy to program and set the timer. I made jerky and loaded all 15 trays up. The taste was amazing. Functional, great quality, made for capacity.
