  1. Great for Excessive Chewers and Eaters. I decided to get the Kong Extreme toy for my then 9-year-old dog in Sept. 2010, after her older sister passed away a few days before. I figured we both could have used the distraction.I learned ages ago that most toys couldn’t hold up against my two Australian Cattle Dogs, since they didn’t just happily gnaw on things, they’d try to eat it. In fact, they tried to eat a number of things, from fabrics to meticulously eating the lining off tennis balls and soft balls. Nothing was safe, especially against the youngest, who has some OCD issues. I’d be lucky to see a tough toy last a day, much less a month.Like the rest, I didn’t think this toy would stand a chance, but it’s still holding up well almost a year later. My dog isn’t a strong chewer, like a doberman or pit, but very meticulous. She and her sister would go at something for hours if you let them, until nothing was left. Because of this, I also need to choose soft toys, rather than something hard, because she’ll wear her teeth down if you let her. Fortunately, this manages to stand up to her obsessive chewing, but it also doesn’t wear the teeth down, which I love.I’m thinking of getting a new one, even though the current could probably last another few months. I’m just now seeing some wear along the seams, despite her every effort to conquer and destroy it. I’m mainly getting it just to be on the safe side, so that I don’t risk it falling apart while I’m not watching her, and just for the sake of cleanliness. These are extremely durable and easy to clean. They do have a strong odor when you first open them up, but it fades relatively quickly. I let ours soak it in hot/vinegar water for a while, then rinsed it well and left it out in the sun for a few hours. Seemed to help a little. They can also be loud when dogs chew on them, which can be annoying if you’re trying to watch TV, but I find it well worth it, even if my partner doesn’t agree during football time.I love the fact that these toys bounce unpredictably, although I would be careful around furniture if you plan to bounce it off the floor or toss it. I got into the habit of using it down our long hallway, referring to it as Dog Bowling, which she loves. She also didn’t need food as incentive to get into it (just me playing with it and making it out to be a big deal), which is great, since that just means less cleaning and less weight gain in my book, although I do put treats in it now and then, if my partner and I are leaving the house and plan to be gone awhile. My dog’s around around 30 lbs. and is medium sized, but has had no trouble tackling the larger-sized version, which was the only size available through Amazon at the time. I may get the medium-sized toy soon, just because she’s reaching 10 and she’ll go at it for ages. This is a great toy for obsessive chewers in particular, and I highly recommend it to dog lovers. I just wish we’d found out about them sooner! I’m also happy to report that she has stopped chewing on random things), like blankets and clothing, as much as she used to. If she does start up, it’s because she can’t find her Kong. I may also get the bone version and will review on that if I do.

  4. Awesome for heavy chewers. My dog loves these! And so do I because she can’t chew through them. I take a glass of her food put water with it and let it sit until it gets mushy. Then I spoon the mushy food into the Kong and put it in the freezer. she loves the treat and it saves me a lot of money on store bought treats. It also keeps her busy which is a plus!😊

  5. Highly Recommended for Larger Dogs & Chewers. My 65+ lb Black Mouth Cur, Rosie, who is 2-3 years old has successfully destroyed every toy ever handed to her except this toy. The KONG Extreme Dog Toy has survived Rosie’s playtimes since January 16th, 2023.I seriously buy a $5-10 toy that she’d destroy in minutes of play often. Small ropes. Thick large ropes. Bones. Rubber toys. Tennis Balls. “Heavy Duty” stimulating toys with snack options. They all end up in pieces. With holes. Shredded. Destroyed with a very happy smile on the dog, but a sad hole in the wallet.I purchased the KONG toy because someone at work said their dog loved their toy and it had lasted a few months! So, I thought $20 for a couple months sounds better than $5 for 5 minutes. And here we are, 9 months later and it’s in the same shape as day one. This is a toy that I can leave out and she’ll play by herself, run around, roll around with it… if you add a snack, then it’s a puzzle to get it out and keeps her self entertained for 30 minutes at least. In the back yard fetch with this toy is a lot of fun. It’s easy to grab out of her mouth. It bounces around the yard, keeping her entertained. If, for some odd reason, this toy was destroyed – I would buy again. I’ve even considered buying a back up when they go on sale. It’s great. Highly recommended.

  6. Indestructible. The KONG Extreme Dog Toy in the color Black has been an absolute savior for my extra-large, super-chewy pup. This toy is, without a doubt, one of the toughest and most durable dog toys on the market. The natural rubber construction is virtually indestructible, even for the most aggressive chewers. My dog can chew on this thing for hours, and it still looks brand new. The design is genius, with a hollow center that can be stuffed with treats or peanut butter, providing mental stimulation and entertainment during solo playtime. What’s impressive is that this toy doesn’t just withstand chewing but also stands up to vigorous games of fetch and tug-of-war. It’s versatile and keeps my dog engaged in different activities, promoting physical exercise and preventing boredom. The unpredictable bounce of the KONG adds an extra layer of excitement to our fetch games. It keeps my dog guessing and on the move, providing hours of active fun. Plus, the fact that it’s made from natural rubber makes it safe for my dog to chew on, and it’s easy to clean.I also appreciate the size of the toy, which is perfect for larger breeds. It’s big enough for them to enjoy without posing a choking hazard. While it may be pricier than some other dog toys, the longevity and entertainment value it offers more than justify the cost. The KONG Extreme Dog Toy is an investment in your dog’s physical and mental well-being, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to any dog owner, especially those with heavy chewers or larger breeds. It’s truly a lifesaver for both your furniture and your dog’s happiness.

  7. These are just the best! Must-haves for giant dogs. My giant dogs love these. One is a 7 month old great dane puppy and these keep him and his 8 year old saint dane brother busy for hours (mostly because they think they can lick everything out, so they just force it all to stuff further in, but hey… keeps them busy for hours!)… These have been a life-saver lately for the longest stretch of time they are alone without humans during the day. Fill em up, freeze em, hand em over, and confidently leave your house knowing they will be trying to get the food out for the next 4-6 hours! 😂 👍

  8. Not for big dogs lol. I had to get a full size one for my big dogs. In the picture it looks bigger then it is. It’s small enough to hide in the palm of your hand. It was great I just got the wrong size. They should put pictures of it next to something so you can judge the size.

Great and lasts long. My dog is such a chewer and because of that, I needed to find a toy that he wouldn’t tear through almost instantly. His toys usually last about a month or two before I would have to get him a new one. I already had one of these that lasted for quite a long time. Best part, no matter how hard he chewed it, he wasn’t able to break through until he eventually did. He can chew on it for hours on end and never get tired of it. He really loves it.

  10. Very tuff and works great. We love to use kongs for pitbull. We fill it with freshpet, treats and a little peanutbutter then freeze it. It keeps her busy when we’re gone. Their safe and the quality is great.

  11. Perfect for the jaws of a German Shepherd. I bought this for a new rescue, she’s a 7 yr old German Shepherd and has spent the majority of her life going from one home to another, and in three shelters. We rescue unadoptable dogs and find that the best toys, treat included is a Kong. Black for large dogs that are strong destroyers and chewers. When we leave, she’s in a crate and she gets the Black Kong with Cheerios inside and Peanut Butter around the edges. I should have bought stock in Kongs. When we foster a dog, the Kong and a blanket from their crate goes with them to their new home. We have two other dogs and they have the red medium size, getting a treat when we leave for a few hours.

  12. One Of The Best Items Ever Made For Dogs. This is such a great item! We put peanut butter (must be Xylitol free peanut butter ! Xylitol is not safe for pets!) inside of it and put it in the freezer as a special treat for our Pittie mix. He absolutely loves it! It’s strong and durable which is a must for hard chewers! It takes him a while to lick it out, so it’s great when you need to have your dog be occupied for a little while! I’ve tried other dog safe food inside of it but frozen peanut butter is our dogs favorite! This is a must have! We have 2 of them n keep them frozen and ready to use at all times! If I had to pick only one toy for our dog, this would definitely be it!

  13. Great treat dispenser. Holding up well. This is great for my aggressive chewer. It has lots of room to shove treats in (maybe too much) and generously sized hole. And it’s holding up well compared to the red kongs we used to use. It is a little annoying to clean out sometimes – need the right tool/brush to get to crevices inside. And initially it smells very strongly of rubber, unpleasant. But doesn’t affect our dog.

  14. Stands up to heavy chewer. My dog ripped apart the standard red one but these stick together and hold up to his jaws. I only keep buying them because he hides the Kongs in the yard somewhere.

  15. This one worked better than the last I’ve bought. It’s probably been about a year, and she has yet to chew it up! It’s a bit heavy, and very hard and sturdy. She loves playing with it!

  16. Durable. I have 3 large dogs and they love this toy! They normally shred/break their toys but these just don’t seem to give. They’ve had this toy for about a month now and there are no rips or signs of breakage.

  17. Bullet proof. I have a dynamic duo of super chewers! These two will make short work of destroying any and all toys. I’ve had the Kong extreme toys for years. I put peanut butter inside of the rim and freeze them. Takes the dogs longer to get the treats. Highly recommend and well worth the cost.

  18. Indestructible Dog Toy. Finally got a toy that my dog can’t destroy. Heavy weight, great size, playing non stop, very hard, not soft.

  19. Great for heavy chewers. This type of Kong holds up so well considering my dog is an extremely heavy chewer.

  20. Good and strong. I ordered this for my border collie so I could fill it with peanut butter then freeze it. He loves it and it keeps him occupied for, oh, maybe a half hour or so. Once the peanut butter is gone he likes to chew on the toy. So far, it’s withstood his chewing and that’s a huge plus.
