  1. Good entry level smart bulb. I have over a dozen of these Kasa smart bulbs in my house, and I’ve used them for over a year now. Overall, these are a solid and affordable entry-level smart bulb.Installation is a piece of cake. Simply unscrew the old (standard) bulb, and screw the Kasa bulb in its place. Then follow the instructions in the app to configure the bulb with your wi-fi.To be clear about how these work: DO NOT flip the wall switch on and off. Turning the switch off will kill power to the bulb. The wi-fi chip inside the bulb always needs a small amount of power in order to receive the command to turn the light on. When you want to turn the light on from your phone app, or Alexa device, these devices will send a command to the bulb over wi-fi. If the bulb has no power, it cannot receive this command. So LEAVE THE WALL SWITCH ON ALWAYS, and simply use your app or Alexa to control the lights.Of course, you COULD continue to use the wall switch as normal, and the lights will go on and off properly. This is actually quite convenient when guests are unfamiliar with how the bulbs work. However, if you plan to use the wall switch routinely, you lose any smart functionality, and there’s no point to buying these bubs.Unfortunately, the bulbs seem to have a flaky wi-fi connection, and the app occasionally loses the ability to communicate with the bulb. Every day or two, I have to flip the wall switch off and then back on to “reboot” the bulb’s wi-fi chip. Then you’re good for another couple days.In terms of brightness, these are advertised at 800 lumens. I have 5 of them in my dining room chandelier, and it certainly provides more than enough light for eating, and for craft projects on the table. In the living room, the ceiling fan has 4 of these bulbs, and it does seem a little dim at times when reading. I wish the bulbs went up to 1,000 lumens or more.Of the 12+ of these bulbs I own, one went bad within a few months and I had to replace it. The rest continue to work.Overall I give these a B+.

Great – Just Works – But Basic. I initially was a Hue bulb user but I had multiple quirks so I completely dumped them and switched over to the Kasa Bulbs. Reason I picked the Kasa Bulbs over others was because I already had some Kasa Switches and Kasa Plugs so I didn’t want another App and another eco system to worry about. Also, my existing Kasa stuff works perfectly. With that said, here’s my reviewProsApp is simple and straight forward (see negative)They work with Google, Alexa, IFTTT, and Smart Things (no Apple Homekit) so I’m not tied to a single smart systemBrightness is great. Brighter than my Hues (1000 lumen bulb)No Hub neededFast response. When I turn on or off the lights, or even change brightness/color, it’s pretty much immediate – my friend has Feint Electric bulbs, and there is like a 3-5 second delayI can control lights remotely – when I’m away from home I can see status of the lightsPrice – 2 pack of Hue is $100 (not including hub). 2 pack of Kasa, about $30Setup is super easy (see negative)NegativesThe app being simple is a negative. Coming from the Hue app, Kasa app is super basic. While you can get it to do pretty much everything you could do in the Hue app, it’s a lot of manual setup. Example: Hue has a ton of pre-setup scenes like night ‘Misty Morning’, etc. Whereas Kasa has 3 basic scenes to start. You can definitely ‘recreate’ any Hue scene in the app, but it’s a lot of work.(small gripe) Continuing with, app, the home screen should be quick access to things (more grouping of icons). Example: Hue has all the scenes at the top and lights below that. So once you go in to the app, it’s one click to change scenes or to turn off/on a light. In Kasa, it’s extra click or additional scrolling to accomplish the same thingAnd then there are no add-ons like Hue to make the lights more fun and dynamic. Like on New Year, I could set Hue lights to ‘Firework’ and that was cool. There is zero dynamic modes with KasaTo go along with the ‘fun’ topic. You can link your Hue up media device and have it changes colors while it plays (music, tv). There is nothing in the Kasa ecosystem right now that does that.Setup can be annoying because the app can be confusing during setup. (see below for easy headache free setup)No Apple Homekit supportIFTTT – does not support triggers, only actions. While I’m going to miss some things about the Hue lights, I’m not going to miss the headaches. Hue lights are more ‘fun’ (just don’t expect no issues), but if you want lights that just work, have great brightness, color selection and are a fraction of the price of Hue, I highly suggest the Kasa bulbsPre-setup notesIf you are connected to a vpn on your phone or using AdGuard, disable it before you startRequire 2.4Ghz WiFi. 5. A minimalist light bulb that could be brighter. TP-Link is a brand that I have always associated with the simpler part of life while trying to maintain affordability. I mean back in 2014, I bought my first ever smart light bulb smart bulb for 35 dollars, and it was a TP-Link Kasa. Instantly, it blew my mind. An easy to use app and a simple no BS lightbulb, all things I wouldn’t even know I would appreciate so much. But my house changed, and eventually the light bulb went out and that’s when I decided to research more in depth about other light bulbs, eventually I decided to get another brand and forgot about TP-Link. Then one of the lights went out in my office and when I decided to give TP-Link another try, it was the same thing. A simple light bulb that made me grin everytime I looked at it, but that was until I put the bedroom light bulb next to the TP-Link lightbulb that I saw the only issue with the lightbulb. It had claimed to be 1000 lumens, yet the bedroom lightbulb claimed to be 1100 lumens. There was a big difference, the TP-link was significantly dimmer, and I’m not sure what the deal is, but for a “100 lumen” difference, it really struggled in performance. It was weak and really disappointed me. Now, I will always recommend this lightbulb especially for those who have a smaller room, and specifically this brand, for I have only had good experiences with TP-Link, but if you’re counting on it to illuminate a medium sized room, don’t.

  6. Almost any color and about 60w brightness and it’s dimmable. These are add-on bulbs for me. I’ve been using TP-Link bulbs for years. They are dependable and the KASA app gives so many options. On or Off times, that you can schedule over and over. Mabie you’re going on Vacation, and you want it to look like lights are turning on or off in rooms. Or a scheduled time to turn on and off.Being dimmable you can set brightness, color with a color wheel and of course white. Best of all is that no ‘Hub” is needed. These connect to Wi-Fi on their own.The Kasa app set-up function is easy to use. Anyone can connect these bulbs.Alexa or Google can, by voice, control the bulbs. Example: Alexa, turn on the living room light (you name the bulbs). Alexa: turn the living room light to 30%. Het Google turn the living room light green.I not only recommend these, I have. Several of my friends use them.

  7. Lasted just under one year. I replaced several of our bulbs with these in Sept 2022. Two of them have malfunctioned in the last months (it’s now Sept 2023). One simply went out and would not turn on again. The other started crashing on and off constantly. I tried resetting to no avail. I threw both out.I’m here to buy more because I did like the color range, and I want to keep all my smart devices on one app if possible. For the price, I suppose getting a year out of them isn’t too bad.

  8. Seem awesome, will update if issues. I just installed these, I moved into an apartment where the bedroom lights are on short pull strings, and I didn’t want floor lamps in every room. These were super easy to install: screw in, if it doesn’t blink 3x turn the light on and off a few times and they’ll blink, connect to the bulbs wifi network, connect it to your Wi-Fi, app does the rest.I’m mostly interested in the fact I can turn them on and off with my phone, but the color change is a cool feature and would definitely be nice for a party or something. I like that you can dim them as well. They worked straight out of the box for me and now I want them in every room. I will update if they start losing connectivity or anything.

  9. Great for the price. I love these things and I have three of them now. I never have issues with connectivity other than needing to turn my VPN off. It is SUPER convenient to be able to control them totally from my phone. The price is crazy low for what you get and so worth it. They’ve worked in every working lamp I’ve put them in and other than a brief setup are pretty much plug and play. I love the built in slider for color temperature in the app and the automatic mode. I also like that the packaging is very minimal and almost entirely cardboard while still protecting the bulbs really well.I do wish that they could do patterns of different colors but honestly for the price I’m not taking off any stars for that. I also don’t use Alexa or anything so I can’t speak on that, but it’s absolutely not necessary to use them. I just use the app.

  10. Perfect. Totally recommended. It works perfectly, super easy to use and thousands of color options. You can adjust brightness, I wanted the option of having a very dim light, and with this bulb, I got that.

  11. I love Kasa products they are easy to install, they work as expected and they have a lot of useful features. I bought the bulbs to replace an Lifix bulb that stopped pairing with my WIFI – it was always pretty difficult to pair. With the Kasa bulb pairing was done in 2 minutes, easy peasy. Plenty of features with the bulb, colours, dimmable, you can set schedules. I cannot recommend them enough. I also own the smart plugs and I am very happy with them, not having to unplug the Christmas lights before going to bed and instead touch a button has been a life changer.

  12. Easy to Setup and Control. Setup was very easy; the Kasa app pretty much did it automatically once the bulbs were on. The integration with Alexa is almost seamless, with the occasional moment of turn off and turn on again. The range of colours is impressive and the brightness was better than I anticipated.

  13. A Game-Changer for My Home Lighting. I recently purchased the Kasa Smart Wi-Fi Light Bulb, and I couldn’t be happier with my decision! Setting it up was incredibly easy—just follow the straightforward instructions provided, and within minutes, I had it connected to my home Wi-Fi and ready to go. The Kasa app is user-friendly and intuitive, making it simple to customize settings, schedules, and even create lighting scenes. One of the standout features for me is the wide range of brightness and color options. From warm white to cool daylight, and a vibrant spectrum of colors, I can create the perfect ambiance for any mood or occasion. Whether I’m watching a movie, housecleaning, or just winding down after a long day, the Kasa Smart Bulb allows me to set the mood effortlessly.I also love the integration with my smart home devices. It works seamlessly with Alexa, and I can control it using voice commands. No need to get up to turn off the lights—just say the word! The scheduling feature is another highlight, allowing me to set my lights to turn on and off automatically, which is perfect for home security and energy savings.Overall, the Kasa Smart Bulb has exceeded my expectations. It combines functionality, customization, and convenience all in one. If you’re looking to upgrade your home lighting experience, I highly recommend giving the Kasa Smart Bulb a try. It’s a fantastic addition to any smart home!

  14. De muy buena calidad. Muchos colores a elegir e intensidad de luz.Muy estables en WiFiMuy compatibles con Alexa y otros servicios.Mucho mejor que otras marcas.

  15. KASA products never disappoint. I have been using the KASA line of smart plugs for years and have found them to be extremely user friendly and dependable. Thought I’d give the smart bulbs a try — it took me a while to set up due to a misunderstanding of the directions on my part, but once I realized what I was doing wrong, it was ridiculously quick. It’s color changing so that will be cool for various occassions, easy to set a schedule to turn them on / off, and the light is great. I simply set mine for the sunset / sunrise option and I never have to think about it again. The mistake I made is during set up, it asks you to connect to your bulbs WI-FI network — well this means you actually have to go into your phone settings and switch your WIFI to the KASA smart bulb signal that the bulb is actually sending out, connect to it, set it up, and then it will jump onto your existing network. I can only compare to 1 other brand (FEIT) – that brand WIFI bulb works great in terms of bulb function and quality, but the app is glitchy and I was never able to connect it to my Alexa. In the future, I’ll probably get more KASA brand simply to keep everything in 1 app.
