Works great for string lights. Thought it was causing a GFCI tripping problem – guess not. Below is my 3 star rating which I’m changing to 4 stars now that I’ve done some more investigating. I thought rain was getting into the TPLink plug and causing the GFCI to trip – but I found out it was where the lights plugged into an extension cord. I removed the TPLink plug from the outlet and plugged the extension cord directly into the GFCI outlet and it tripped. Hmm. Guess the TPLink wasn’t the problem. It turns out there was water in the extension cord plug from a heavy rain. That must have been the issue with my first TPLink plug also. So, if your GFCI plug keeps tripping and you’re using an extension cord, check the female end of the extension cord and see if there is some water in it. I’m going to wait for it to dry completely and then use electrical tape to keep water out of the connection. For some reason there is still some current going through the string lights even when the lights are off which is why the 4 star rating rather than 5.Original review when I thought the TPLink plug was causing the GFCI to trip:This is my second purchase of this 2 plug unit. I use it to remotely control some string lights. It was easy to setup and has good wifi range. It responds almost immediately using Alexa. I have a schedule so the lights turn on at dusk and turn off at 10:00 PM. That’s the good – now the bad. I turned off the lights using Alexa and replaced a broken bulb – and got shocked while doing so. Power was obviously still flowing even thought it was supposed to be off. I also noticed that the lights wouldn’t turn off all the way – they would glow faintly. The GFCI would trip frequently as would the breaker in the fuse box. I figured I had a bad plug and bought another. It has been working fine for the most part, but the GFCI breaker would intermittently trip with it also. I replaced the GFCI outlet. No help. It had been working fine for the last few weeks until we had a lot of rain the last two days. It has now begun tripping the GFCI outlet again and the breaker in the fuse box. It says it’s waterproof but obviously isn’t. I’m going to get rid of it and try a different brand. Too bad because I really like it when it works.
Instructions could be clearer. This works great now that I figured out how to connect it. It’s definitely NOT intuitive. If you join the plug’s WiFi too early then your phone can’t connect to the app (at least my iPhone couldn’t). Then when you do connect, my iPhone 14 indicated that there was no WiFi signal – that’s okay, but it seemed like an error, so I tried to figure out the problem. So if the directions were better, it would be 5 stars. One other small issue is that the included “Waterproof Tips” card indicates that you should “secure the plug with provided clamp and screw” – mine didn’t include those items.UPDATE: So once I figured out the first one I bought a second, thinking it would be easy to set up. Yes and no. The initial set up was easy, but then the plug didn’t appear in my home. So I thought I had set it up wrong so I reset it and set it up again. Same thing – only one (the original) appeared in my home. Turns out because I also have an indoor plug in my office I have two homes, and the app put the new plug in my office “home”. Once I did that I had to create another room in my real home and then I could move the plug to the right place. Maybe there is a way to have two plugs in the same room, but I didn’t want to spend time on it and it works the way it is.

This works really well with dimmable LED lights. Setting up the device was an effortless process, seamlessly connecting it with both my ALEXA and Google Home apps. The setup was straightforward, and I found that controlling the device through my phone’s app was intuitive and user-friendly. One of the standout features is the ability to establish presets, particularly useful for adjusting the lights’ brightness in my case. Additionally, its waterproof design provides a valuable layer of versatility, catering to various environmental needs. The overall build quality of the device is commendable, boasting a sturdy construction that imparts a sense of durability. The integration with ALEXA further enhances its functionality; for instance, I can simply instruct “Alexa, turn on the patio,” and the lights illuminate as desired. The degree of control is impressive too; with a simple voice command like “Alexa, set patio to 1%,” I can achieve precisely the ambiance I seek. This seamless interaction between technology and the environment is not only convenient but also oddly satisfying, making the whole experience of controlling the lights an enjoyable part of my routine.
Super easy and efficient. Saw some reviews it was hard to didn’t connect easily to Wi-Fi. This literally took 5 minutes to connect and the app walks you through it. It couldn’t be easier lol.We have spotty Wi-Fi too and it still connected. Great to be able to dim the tea lights as they were way to bright. Great product. Use my phone to dim or set schedule.
Kasa Good. Product: Kasa / TP-Link Outdoor Smart Plug, single outlet, model KP401Gist: overall I like it and would get it again although I’d actually get the one with 2 plugs insteadGood: Kasa Smart app works good, the Kasa/TP-Link products are good quality and good function with the Kasa App or the Alexa App and Echo devices, actual setup of the plug was very simple and easy – just select it in the Kasa app and then go into Alexa and it already has it ready to go without even doing anything. Not so good: you have to have the Kasa Smart App on your phone, you need a username and password, the unit is not waterproof – it is weather proof – that means no direct water contact I’m pretty sure. It is designed to be plugged into the outlet and for the unit to hang down by the cord about 7 inches with the actual socket facing the bottom. That way rain will not enter, just run off the sides. Just keep that in mind when determining if this style plug will fit into your scenario.Details: My first smart plug was a Kasa/TP-Link product that I purchased off Amazon in 2017 and in 2024 it is still operating perfectly with Alexa/Echo so I expect this item will also last a few years.Since I already had a Kasa account setup in 2017 all I had to do was login and add this new device. Well, I haven’t accessed that account since 2017 and haven’t had the Kasa app on my phones since then either. I’ve just been using the Echo devices to control my Kasa devices ever since initial setup years ago. So here is the process for me to setup this device:First: Like most smart devices you need the 2.4 GHZ band of your internet router to be active along with the 5 GHZ all the time.1. download the Kasa Smart App onto my phone (I ditched Apple so I use the Android version now)2. open the Kasa App – it will want a login before anything else can be done. If you have an existing account and don’t know your username or password then just click recover option and it will send a link to your email it has on file. Use the link to reset the password. I actually had my password written down but I think since its been years since I logged in it was disabled and that’s why I had to do the reset.3. After you login to the app, just click the plus sign for add device and scroll through the types to select your Outdoor Plug and then the KP401.4. Assign a group or routine in the Kasa App if you want5. Once you’re done with the Kasa app if you go into the Alexa app it should be already setup and ready to use.I didn’t give it 5 stars because everything can always be better and I think the amount of cord this hangs by should be shorter. For some reason they didn’t think so. It works well but looks a little clunky in my patio scenario.

Perfect for Outdoor String Lights. Upon installing string lights in our backyard, we recognized they were far too bright. The Kasa dimmer/remote attachment plug is absolutely perfect. The set up was extremely easy, and even came with hardware. Connecting this to my smartphone was seamless and the remote control works perfectly, even with some distance from router to device. It dims from 0-100% with NOTICEABLE difference in our LED string lights.Cannot recommend enough!
Easy to use and work great. My husband added 3 disk lights for our outside walkway. They were bright! Had this up and running within about 5 minutes and they dim beautifully and the timer function is great. The app is easy to navigate as well. Get it!
Not Just for Outdoors – Works Incredibly Well Indoors, Too. This was the most economical, highly rated and by a company I already trust, route to setting up a wifi-controlled smart dimmer track light solution that I could find. The fact that they are rated for “outdoors” should hypothetically mean that they are just super tough, and will hopefully live even longer indoors.I paired this with “LRAEMXG Plug in Track Lighting with Power Cord” and “DEWENWILS GU10 LED Bulb, Dimmable Bulbs” – and the results are incredible. No flickering, instant and reliable connection and response.I will definitely be buying more of these for both indoors and outside!
Perfect Outdoor Smart Dimmer – Easy Setup. I installed this Outdoor Smart Dimmer Plug to control my outdoor lights, and it works perfectly! It’s simple, well-made, and setup was a breeze. The app is user-friendly and pairs easily, allowing me to adjust the brightness right from my phone. The dimmer integrates seamlessly with Alexa, Google Assistant, and SmartThings, making it super convenient to control the lights with voice commands. The Wi-Fi range is impressive, and the IP64 rating gives me confidence that it can withstand outdoor conditions. Highly recommend!

Excellent with a few *. I picked up 20 of these because they were under $14 each, making them even cheaper than the lowest-cost Chinese Smart Life dimmers. For the price, they deliver a lot of value and functionality.Pairing these with the Kasa app was straightforward and hassle-free. Linking them to Google Home and Amazon Alexa was just as easy, and I had zero issues getting them to work with both platforms. One of the standout features is the design. Since the cable extends away from the unit, you can plug it into the lower outlet and still have room for something in the top outlet. This is a big advantage over some of my Lutron dimmers, which are bulky and tend to monopolize the entire outlet.Another great feature is the grounded outlet. Unlike many dimmer controllers, such as my Lutron and GE models, which only have hot and neutral connections, these include grounding for added safety and versatility. It is worth noting that these dimmers only support up to 4 amps, so you need to keep your load under 400 watts. For most modern LED lighting, this is not an issue. However, for some of my outdoor Christmas lights, which are older incandescent strings, I had to limit the number of strings I could connect. It was not a big deal, though, because these are so affordable that I just used a second one to handle the extra load. Finally, I was impressed by the lack of flickering. Even at low dimming levels, there was no noticeable flicker with my LED lights, which was a pleasant surprise. Overall, these dimmers are a fantastic value and work flawlessly indoors and outdoors.

Very convenient. I purchased 6 of these to replace my Christmas light timers with and they work great. They have been outside in the rain and weather, and are holding up well in the elements. The app and scheduling was easy. Operation from my phone has made this so easy and has saved me time. No more unplugging inflatables because of strong winds, just go on the app and turn them off!
