I’m so excited about this egg sandwich maker. I am a senior who has to cook for two, and there is little I hate doing more than cooking. I suppose I could be good at it if I enjoyed it, but I heavily depend on my Ninja Foodi to throw things together for dinner. My partner, who doesn’t want to be bothered with anything, microwaves his lunches, and it’s your typical over-priced, over-processed stuff that creates a ton of plastic trash. Also, I just don’t like the way food cooks in a microwave so I avoid it myself. So I watched YouTube videos of people using this little egg sandwich maker and bought a Kindle book with recipes. So much advice from so many people! All say “It takes trial and error to find out what you like.” So I thought I’d just ruin something to take this tidy little machine on a maiden voyage. I brushed a thin layer of olive oil on the rings and griddle parts before I cooked my first sandwich. We haven’t bought muffins or bagels yet, but I did buy a set of stainless steel cookie cutters that has a 4” ring in the set so I can cut bread or tortilla or other circles. But when the cooker came, I was too excited even to fool with that. I cut a piece of that wide rye bread with the rounded edges in half to make one sandwich, fully expecting leakage because the bread didn’t extend to the edges of the rings. Put in the bread half, a slice of ham, a slice of cheese; closed down the top ring and cracked in an egg, using an edge of the shell to break the yolk. (I am confused why Hamilton Beach’s instructions say to prick the yolk with a fork, but then says not to use metal utensils because they’ll damage the non-stick coating.) Following advice from others, I didn’t put the top piece of bread on the raw egg until the last minute or so—they say it keeps the bread from having egg soaked into it—but that was probably unnecessary and prevented the top piece of bread from being as toasty as the bottom one.Initial impression: Easy. Tasty. This thing is forgiving as long as you remember to use oven mitts and give your cooked sandwich time to cool down some—especially if you cook it a little too long, as I did. Also, next time I make TWO of these, I’m going to scramble one egg and mix in a few veggies fritata-like, divide it between the two top sandwich rings, then put the cheese on top before putting on the bread instead of putting it in the bottom ring. Or maybe put half a cheese slice on the bottom and half on top. The book I bought with egg sandwich maker recipes does the cheese on top of the egg, and I think that’s a good plan to keep egg out of the bread while ensuring the top and bottom pieces cook evenly.People are nothing but creative with this egg sandwich maker. Just search for Hamilton Beach egg maker on YouTube. My mother used to make a marvelous enchilada casserole she got out of some 1950s magazine: four lightly turned-in-oil corn tortillas in a layer, a layer of chopped onion, a layer of sharp grated cheddar cheese; repeat for two more layers; then top it all off with a can of Hormel or Old El Paso chili without beans and more cheese. I’m going to try adapting that recipe to this egg cooker to make little dinner enchiladas for the two of us. The worst that will happen is that it will make a mess and it won’t cook quite right, but I’m game to experiment. Now I just have to try to wean Robert off his Jimmy Deans, which always seem to be sold out…and he ought to be able to manage it with this cooker.UPDATE: I use this almost every day. Street taco sized tortillas work great in it, the corn ones less well than the flour. The La Banderita flour tortillas curl up the sides a bit and cook to a satisfying crunchiness with sides that help keep the ingredients from sliding around. I make two with real bacon bits and cheese and an egg on top of each, then flip one over on top of the other for a perfect two-egg sandwich. I’m still experimenting with how best to time cooking the eggs so they’re not overdone and rubbery, but this little appliance is great!
My family loves it, but. I only have owned this maker for 24 hours, but my family loves it. It’s quick easy breakfast before school, I have 7 kids in school this year. We cooked it for 5 min and it was perfect but only after it was already preheated , also we buy the frozen walmart patties that fit perfectly in the pan, But i would advise cooking the sausage for about 45 sec in the microwave, otherise its still cold even after 6.5 min. If you don’t pre heat than it’s more like 6 1/2 min. Only thing I wish it had was an on off button. So only way you can turn it off is buy unplugging it. Or better yet, have an automatic shut off after 15. In. Otherwise
Great idea, could use some improvements. What a wonderful idea!It never has made a perfect breakfast sandwich, although it does work.I made about 20 breakfast sandwhiches trying different methods. (Pretoasing bread, adding butter, cooking longer, loading bread first then after a minute add other items. etc)The novelty is good; but adding in time for cleanup and putting it away, there is little time saved. A quality breakfast sandwich and saving time was my focus in purchasing it.As far as quality in construction; I would say excellent. It is very easy to assemble and easy to use once you know the routine. I also never had a problem with leakage.I have a number of items (like this) in my kitchen that I do not use very often, but I still appreciate having them there; because of the novelty and the thought of the brilliant mind that created them.
This has revolutionized breakfast in my home. For long, I’ve touted the benefits of breakfast. My wife and children had remained unconvinced; professing they werent “hungry” and wanted to wait to eat until later. I always pointed out if you wait till your hungry, you’ve really waited until you were *hangry*. Breakfast is important. You haven’t eaten in 12 hours and lunch is half a day away. I always offer to cook, but eventually they grow tired of the cereal, the toast, the eggs, the pancakes and syrup. Then came the hamilton beach. They love it. My oldest now eats breakfast every morning and she is significantly less surly-teenagery. My wife has breakfast two to three times a week. My youngest has it every school day. We’ve made it with english muffins (my favorite since it’s not too tall and I love an english muffin) as well as bagels when they were on sale. The bagels work, but are much thicker so it’s a tight fight. The go to meat is sausage patties, but we once cooked a ham and had the slices to put in our sandwhiches. I frequently add a bacon crumble mix to the egg. Always add cheese. This thing is a delight.
It’s perfect except for the fact that it is weird to put the bread on top of the uncooked egg I didn’t do it for better results, but it is a great and practical machine I do recommend
WONDERFUL. I really appreciated the video reviews with their personal recipes, and it sold me on this unit! I’ve been making my husband and myself breakfast sandwiches about 3-4 times or week! The eggs and cheese are the easy part. But I had to try several types of meat until I finally found the perfect one! Jimmy Dean breakfast sausage (in the roll) either the HOT or the MAPLE. Each are equally delicious. Here’s the key: I cut the roll into 4 equal portions, using 1 portion for each breakfast sausage. When they’re cooked up, they’re the same size in diameter as the English Muffin. Every bite has meat! Of course, you need to thoroughly cook the patty. I flatten out the sausage portion bigger than size of the sandwich receptacle because the sausage shrinks a bit. I heat my cast iron pan to hot, add a little Graza “Sizzle” Extra Virgin Olive oil, then add my two patties, letting them get a nicely browned crust, flip and let the order size get a crust, lower the heat and let then finish cooking through. In the meantime, I butter the outsides of my thin sliced English muffins. Heat the breakfast sausage maker until the light turns green. Now add: the muffin half, buttered side down, the cheddar cheese, the hot sausage patty, then the beaten egg, with salt, pepper to taste, then lay a slice of pepper jack cheese on top of the beaten egg, then top it with the other half of the buttered muffin. I set the the timer for 4.5 min. BTW, the purpose of the buttered muffins laying butter side down is because it creates slightly crispy outsides. The extra cheese laying on top of the beaten eggs does melt real nice, too. I break each cheese slice into 4 pieces so that it doesn’t touch the metal ring. This breakfast sandwich makes more of a mess in the unit, so the little units will need to be (easily) removed, soaked in soapy water, and cleaned thoroughly, but it’s worth the extra cleanup. In place of the cheese on top of the beaten eggs, I’ve added finely chopped red & green bell peppers, and that’s a nice change of flavor. Still very delicious!
Quick and easy. This appliance is so easy to use. Just read instructions before use and follow the quick start instruction. It is a piece of cake. I have used this macine several times since I got it and it works great every time. My wife went and bought a bread cutter that will cut a slice of loaf bread to the prefect shape of roundness for the sandwich maker. So it is not limited to English Muffins .If there was any deduction from perfect it would be it has no on/off switch, you have to unplug it to cut it off. Plug it in to turn it on ,heats up very quickly. Just a quick note I used Thompson cinnamon/ raisin English Mufflins and I said move over McDonalds I got you beat by a long shot LOL!I highly recommend this sandwich maker. Check out some of the videos on Amazon of people using this sandwhich maker. Highly recommended!!!
muy practico y facil de limpiar. funciona a la perfeccion
Efficient and easy cleanup. This little machine is a time saver. It preheats quickly, and only takes 4-5 minutes to cook the sandwich. It’s super easy to use and leaves little to no mess after it’s done. You plug it in, let it preheat, when the green light turns on that means it’s preheated. You add the bottom of the English muffin, place your cheese/meats/veggies on top, you pull down the top cylinder, slide in the egg tray, add the egg and then place the top half of the english muffin on top of the egg, close it and set the timer on the device and it beeps when the timer hits zero to let you know it’s finished. Then you unplug it to stop it from heating (it does not automatically turn off when timer hits zero), then you slide out the egg tray and lift the two cylinders up and viola! You now have a perfectly cooked breakfast sandwich! Side note, in case you are curious, you need to add precooked meats to it, not raw meats. Bacon, ham and sausage all have precooked variants at the grocery store which will expedite the cooking process for you because you don’t need to preheat it or cook the meat prior to cooking which will save time and reduce the cleanup afterwards. Egg leakage was minimal, and I’m pretty confident they little that came out it was from me feeling the need to adjust the tray while it was cooking. The only leakage I noticed was from using oil spray on it. The oil dripped when I lifted the top cylinder. It said to use the oil lightly if you did choose to use it, I definitely didn’t use it lightly so that’s more of a me issue. It’s the perfect size machine, not too big and it’s lighter than expected, so it’s pretty easy to store away etc. The instruction manual is self explanatory, super easy to understand and gives you some trouble shooting advice incase you mess up somehow and it doesn’t turn out how you anticipated. The only way I could see it not properly cooking the food is if you didn’t let the machine preheat and you didn’t set a timer. And again. I want to emphasize it’s super easy to clean, the metal cylinders are also dishwasher safe. I would absolutely recommend this product for those who want a quick hot breakfast with very little cleanup required. And two recommended sauces, Cajun majo or salsa goes great with the egg sandwich and the best cheese to use with this is finely shredded mild cheddar! That’s just my personal opinion though. Some people said it smells… I think that’s probably because they didn’t clean it before first use. I cleaned mine prior to using it and i don’t smell anything. It functions well for what it is. And side note, if you have marble counters like I do, you may want to skip the spray oil or make sure it’s a very small amount, because oil will destroy marble counters if you don’t clean it instantly. The device is all non stick material so you really don’t even need to use a non stick spray. Hope this helps!!! :)**Review update on 10/6/24, I’ve been using this daily. Still no leaks or issues and I’ve experimented with different English muffins and different meats etc and its made the sandwich perfectly each time. I do recommended toasting the English muffins first before putting them in this machine. But it will make it regardless it’s just a matter of preference on how toasted you want the muffin. ***
Easy to use and clean. I love how fast and easy it is to make sandwiches. I only have to take five minutes out of my morning, the eggs are always cooked through and clean up is easy.
