Great Lakes Collagen Peptides Powder Supplement for Skin Hair Nail Joints – Unflavored – Quick Dissolve Hydrolyzed, Non-GMO, Keto, Paleo, Gluten-Free, No Preservatives – 16 oz Canister
My “Joint Juice”. My initial motivation to purchase this product was very simple, joint pain. I have bad knees (who doesn’t nowadays), it’s general arthritis, crepitus, and the “pain hangover” from working out and lifting heavy weights. My typical routine has me icing after workouts, which I will still do. I like this supplement, but it’s not a miracle powder.I wanted something in addition to my fish oil supplement to help my joints, if even possible. I’m pretty skeptical about supplements that make those kind of claims, and I really raised an eyebrow to the metabolic part, and especially from the review about claiming to help her PCOS, it’s on the front product page when you scroll to reviews. That is a very bold claim. I have PCOS, and I wouldn’t assume that a powder I could take with water and a wedge of lemon would be beneficial for something that I’ve had to change my entire lifestyle to fight against.I purchased this product and received it mid May and have been taking it since. I only take 1 serving of this product a day, so just 2 tablespoons. So first, let’s talk about the taste.I started with taking it in my morning orange juice/water mix that I take my iron supplement with. It does make your drink frothy, which I find absolutely disgusting. I do not like frothy anything, that is personal preference. You can shake it up and put in the fridge for 30 minutes or so and the froth goes away. This “recipe” did not work for me. I tried straight water and lemon, not as frothy, but also felt like a chore to drink. And, it never really dissolved all the way. The way I drink it now works best for me. On my gym days, I use my 32oz wide mouth Nalgene bottle and took a blender ball from one of my BlenderBottle 3-Pack Water Bottle of 28oz, Blue/Black/Red, 28 ounce  and stuck it in there. Next I fill it 75% with water, 2 tablespoons of the Great Lakes powder, and 1 Starbucks VIA® Refreshers Valencia Orange (3 Pack/Boxes) 6 Packets Each Box  (green coffee extract), shake up a few times, then add ice to the top. I let it sit for a bit as it will get frothy, but dies down. If I am not working out there is no need for any caffeine, so I use a Crystal Light Pure, Lemonade, 7-Count, 2.17 Ounce (Pack of 6)  or homemade (unsweetened) Green iced tea, or something similar to have some kind of flavor to it.As far as the benefits, I have noticed that my knees are less achy than normal. Although I have been doing a lot more recovery/physical therapy exercises, it could be the combo of both. My hair, which has always fallen out excessively has stopped shedding so much. That alone is worth it for me to always use this product. I feel like I leave hair everywhere I go, and it gets into everything. My BF hasn’t been complaining about it as much, so I know that means there’s been a change as well. One of the best benefits of this supplement is the hunger factor. If I’m just drinking water and my Starbucks VIA, by the time my workout is over I’m typically ravenous and want to eat everything and anything I can find. Which totally defeats the purpose of my workout. However, once I added this to my water/VIA blend, it really keeps the satiety in check and I have no issues running a couple errands after working out, then coming home and eating a sensible meal. I think that’s the biggest bonus to this supplement, at least for me because I’m actively losing weight. I also powerlift, so the little amount of protein I’m getting during the workout probably does help me during the workout and with recovery.I will say that a few weeks into this I did have a cooking accident and cut my finger pretty deeply. Nothing that required stitches, but it was gross. The cut healed very quickly and the scar is barely visible. I have old cuts from cooking slips that you can still clearly see the scars. I’m assuming those are never going to really be non-visible, but that’s something I don’t really care about, I just thought it was interesting enough to add. Some people like that kind of thing. My nails do look healthier, less ridges. I’m iron deficient, so they have always expressed ridges on the nail, but maybe the combo of this and my iron pill are finally working! However, the only downside is that using this product I started to get small, barely noticeable whiteheads. They go away quickly. I’ve had very clear skin for the past few years, and this is the only change to my diet. I am attributing it to this product, but I’m sure the only person that notices them is myself. It was more noticeable when I first started this product, but now after a couple month, it doesn’t happen as much (but still happens). As far as weight loss claims or PCOS help, the only thing this product has helped with losing weight is what I mentioned above, satiety. It does curb hunger, at least for me. The weight loss I’ve noticed is because I workout and track my calories, not because I added Collagen Hydrolysate to my diet.Another reviewer is right, it is cheaper to buy this in the bulk 6 pack on their website, which is probably what I will do in the future. Wish they gave that option on Amazon, since I’m a prime member, and I don’t recall if Great Lakes offers free shipping.

Somethings going on here. I hesitate to actually say this, but this product seems to make me look younger. I’ve used it twice. The first time I noticed that my skin had kind of perked up and looked really good, but I wasn’t certain what had caused it — I had also had a light treatment, and I thought it was probably that, although the results were better than I had gotten in the past from just a single treatment. When I ran out, I stopped using it for a few months, then remembered I hadn’t given in a long enough trial for my nails so I bought it again. Whoa! Same thing happened, but this time I hadn’t had any light treatment or anything else that I could attribute it to. After just a few days use, I noticed that my face had kind of filled out a bit and…. well… glowed. I wasn’t expecting that. I bought it for my joints (which are also feeling/working better) and nails. I haven’t used it consistently long enough to evaluate the nails, but I’m not about to let this stuff run out again. I only use one serving a day (2 tablespoons) and sometimes skip a day. I’ve also been making an effort to eat the skin and tendons and such when I eat meat. For what that’s worth. This stuff is very easy to use. You can put it in anything and it dissolves almost instantly and does not jell. I drink it in coffee, tea, or soups. I’ve also used the regular gelatin, but unless you want jello, this is much more convenient. It has no flavor, you really don’t notice it, even in plain water. I do use an electric whipper to blend it most of the time because it will clump a bit in cool liquid. It’s is just like gelatin but it doesn’t “set up” because the gelatin molecules have been chopped up (lysed) so that they can’t solidify, but the amino acids are still intact.Someone has posted reviews on several similar products stating that we are all stupid to think this works because the body breaks it down into the constituent amino acids — so it’s no different that eating any other protein. I thought about that — it sounded like a sound criticism, but I tried it anyway, and when I saw the results twice (that’s a pretty convincing test), I thought about it some more. I propose that it is the excess of these particular amino acids that is working. Gelatin is not a “complete protein.” It is very high in the amino acids used to build skin, collagen, nails, hair, connective tissues and such. I normally eat a lot of protein, and my skin already looked pretty good for my age, but I think that having an excess of these particular amino acids available stimulates the body to get busy and USE them to renew skin, collagen, etc. However it works, there is something going on here.Note, I didn’t get any product (or anything else) free or discounted for this review. I just bought it after I read about collagen hydrolysate on the Mark’s Daily Apple blog.
It’s made a difference in my life. I have been taking this product for over 5 years. I take it every morning in Black coffee. I started using this product as a way to heal my gut because I suffered from a lot of food allergies which my provider suggested was due to leaky gut. Several years later I have been able to eat things that I wasn’t able to eat before, in moderation. However though I started taking it for my stomach I noticed that my joint pain which was unbearable started diminishing. I thought it was a coincidence and came back here to read the reviews to see if anyone else was having improved joint mobility and less pain, and it seemed that other people were having the same effect. I wondered if it was anything else besides the collagen so at one point I stopped taking it and the joint pain in my hips came back. The difference was so great that I haven’t stopped taking it. My joint pain in my hips was so bad that I could not lie down because I was almost in tears from the pain. Since taking this I no longer experience that. I have tried other collagen and they were not effective for me. Because of how much I like this product I have recommended it to many people who also suffered from joint pain and they also swear by it. I don’t know why no one else is experiencing the benefit but maybe they’re not taking it consistently. Like I said I’ve been taking it for 5 years and when I don’t take it I notice the difference. Sadly I think I have caused the price to go up because when I first started taking it several years ago, it was only about $16. I don’t know why it’s not work for some of the people with the one star reviews but it has worked for me and for every single person I recommended it to. I have it on subscribe and save so that I don’t go without.
Don’t wait to purchase. I’ve used Great Lakes before, but stopped due to family/life happenings. Bad mistake. I felt my joints start hurting again, finger nails getting brittle, knees cracking so loud they’d wake the dog. Couldn’t walk as far without knee pain, even started getting arthritis in my finger. So I ordered (and started up a monthly subscription). I’ve been adding 2 scoops (scoop included) in my morning coffee. I’ve even mixed it in with scrambled eggs! With the unflavored I can’t taste it. I can now bend my finger with no pain, the dog even sleeps better as he can’t hear me waking by him any longer. Is this a cure all? No….But my dog loves that we can now have longer walks and I can also be more active with the grandkids with out hurting all the time. Don’t hold back thinking about purchasing Great Lakes Collagen, you’ll wish you’d started taking it sooner!
So far, so good. I was hesitant to try collagen powder because of reviews about bad taste and texture. After lots of research I settled on Great Lakes brand. I’m very happy with my purchase! This product is truly flavorless. It mixes well in a blender bottle and I don’t even notice it in my water. It does have a slight odor in the container, but it isn’t noticeable once mixed with liquid. I haven’t been taking it long enough for results yet, but so far I’m very pleased with this brand.
Just like the Video Reviews say. This is SO much better than the “Culinary” collagen we had before. Goes in the water, dissolves, is drinkable with just a very slight flavor that is like bone marrow. It is a good source of protein.
Best Collagen Supplement – No need for anything else. This is an A++ product. I have been using this product consistently for at least seven (7) years and have seen great results, from expedited hair growth, increased nail strength and growth, and overall joint health. My skin has also seen great improvement as well. The product mixes well with any type of liquid and has zero taste – ZERO! I put two scoops in each cup of coffee I drink each morning, along with some creamer, etc. I also put it in my tea, and water, if needed. This collagen is PACKED with everything that you need for a healthy better you. I have just recently started experimenting with recipes as well that you can find on their website. I have introduced this product to all my friends and have converted a lot of people who now swear by it, like me!
Giving it another try. I purchased this a few years ago and I just couldn’t commit to taking it everyday. So I stopped buying it. Well I thought I’d try again. I’m trying to grow my hair out. Now, I mix it with my Metamucil. I use a little bit of warm water to dissolve it then top it off with cold. Works everytime. I drink one scoop twice a day instead of 2 scoops once a day. I kept up with it every single day for a month now. My nails are stronger, my hair does seem to be growing faster and my skin is a little tighter. I don’t have a lot of joint pain except my thumb and it hasn’t bothered me in awhile. I’m ordering another can to see if things keep improving.I gave 4 stars because I purchased the 38 servings can, and if 2 scoops are a serving, it didn’t last me 38 days, I’m on day 28. But I’ve purchased other brands for the same price and they didn’t last that long.

Dissolves well, no strong taste. I’ve been a user of Great Lakes collagen since it was in the green can, so I am a big fan, obviously. However, I feel it isn’t biased to say this collagen dissolves amazingly well in hot coffee and imparts very little taste—this can’t be said for another very popular blue-labeled collagen that always left some lumps and had a slight smoky flavor. I use dairy milk in my coffee, but have also used Great Lakes collagen in bulletproof coffee and it works well in both cases. After my blue-label collagen adventure, I came straight back to Great Lakes and won’t be trying any others again, if possible. One thing that is different in this new tan-colored Great Lakes packaging is that the scoop is larger, so a 2 scoop serving has more calories, more amino acids, and will consume the product more quickly. I keep a lot of protein powder scoops after I finish them, so I just started using one of the old scoops instead. Side note: at the time of writing, the single-serve travel packets are equal to two of the old smaller scoops. (The travel packets are great, for the record). Also, there is a line on the new scoops which appears to mark the same quantity of the old scoop, for anyone like me who wants the old serving size and no longer has any of the old scoops.
Dissolves easily. Almost no taste. I use this in my coffee every morning. Great price and it dissolves easily and doesn’t have much of a taste at all. Good stuff!
No Taste or Texture & Mixes Well! Made With Quality Grass Fed Bovine Collagen. Very good quality collagen and it dissolves perfectly in hot and cold drinks with NO taste or texture at all! Definitely will keep buying this. It’s made with grass fed bovine.
Easy no taste collagen dissolves well. We love Great lakes collagen. We’ve been using it for over 10 years. It really seems to help with nails and hair growth. We plan to continue to use it.
Use Sparingly Sensitive Tummies. Ok. So, I put this in my coffee in the AM or hot coco for that extra beauty boost. It does work and I have noticed results for using it for three months. My skin was more supple, clearer, and oddly got rid of some of my slight hyperpigmentation around my mouth. At first, I was using it 2-3x daily, which was the wrong thing to do because my sensitive stomach ended up being highly upset. Everything in moderation! I only use this once daily – yes, it will take you longer to see results, but you get A LOT for the price. If you put it in your beverages FIRST and not AFTER you poured your beverage, it mixes better.

It is amazing tasteless and by using it daily with my morning coffee I have noticed a clear improvement on my skin. I RECOMMEND STRONGLY

Good product. This has no taste so it can be added to a juice without changing its flavor. It’s a good product for joints skin and hair.
