Not one of the lightweight wood mall splitters – but highly effective. Because of the particular design – one with an 8-pound weight – it is not for everyone that needs to split some wood.Have been splitting wood for a week-plus now – both green and dry wood – measuring up to 20-iinch rounds. For full size rounds, have been splitting int quarter sections. This weapon is fully capable of handling the task with ease.Again, I emphasize the point, that this is a “heavy duty” mall….as I use for splitting large rounds, some of which have just been cut the day or two before.Stands-up easily on its own – well balanced – if one is not placing on a hanging or horizontal rack in garage. Stands 36-inches in height.Have had no problem with after-hit handle shock.Have not used it for driving wedges as yet. This is one mall splitter – not for everyones chores if you are just need to split small wood pieces.
Confidence in this tool and Fiskar reliability. This is a fantastic, lightweight and yet strong and reliable addition to my arsenal of tools I use in my garden especially for tree roots that happen to be in the very spot I selected for a new plant. The fact its lightweight is a big plus that doesn’t detract from its sturdiness and reliability. I was initially concerned about its safety should the two pieces separate while in use but since then I’ve used it extensively and my concern has been alleviated. On occasion I wished I’d gotten one with a longer handle but there have also been times when the shorter one was needed. My rather small stature has not affected its effectiveness. This product has increased my confidence in the Fiskar brand name and its never needed sharpening even once.
Incredible Tough. I do a lot of heavy digging and chopping on my farm. I bought this little pick to dig out some broken asphalt driveway pieces and crusher run before pouring a concrete repair. The name Fiskars is what I always go for. I already had the large 36″ pick, but needed some up and close digging while on my knees. The point was very sharp, like needle sharp, but after chopping away at asphalt and packed rusher run for two hours, the point was still fairly sharp, not needle, but could handle a zombie if need be. It is light weight, so my job was a little hard for a small pick to tear through packed crush and run. What I probably really needed was to be 35 again.
Very strong, even splitting big stuff. I bought this for some light firewood splitting in my backyard. This works very well – it splits clean and easy and when it doesn’t it holds up well to strikes from a sledgehammer blow to the back. I even tried this on some gigantic pieces – I was trying to split off some big slabs from a 40″ diameter log and when the wedge became embedded, I tried pulling the handle left and right and never felt like the handle was going to snap or bend. I’m glad I paid I little bit more for Fiskars quality.
Can’t find an equal at the box stores. Wife of the week here!! Husband and I do a TON of house projects. Currently working on landscaping an acre! This is a MUST HAVE!! Helps dig out rocks, move dirt and knock down the clay in our yard. If your husband is like mine, this will make a GREAT Christmas present!!
Best manual log splitter ever. This is the best manual log splitting tool I have ever used and I’ve split a lot of firewood over the years. I’ve tried the wedge and sledge hammer method. I bought a slide hammer wood splitter. I have a collection of other axes and mauls. This fiskars maul is far and away the best and easiest way to go. I have now probably split about a cord of red oak with it from a tree I cut down about a year ago. I’m a regular size guy in my mid 40’s. It’s not too heavy and I don’t have to swing all that hard. It arrived perfectly sharpened. It splits big round pieces 18-24” in diameter I bucked to about 24” in length with no problem. Minimal effort is required to split up the smaller pieces. If you can lift 8lbs up to head height and drip the maul down on the right spot you can chop firewood. Goes right through like butter. The handle is easy on your hands and is not too slippery to use when wet. Highest possible ratings on this one!!! Fiskars never disappoints.
Amazing. My brother has two lazy kids. I mean really lazy. They don’t like splitting wood so they do their absolute very best to break the wooden handle out of a maul to end their splitting chores. I bought him several handles to keep my nephews busy but none of them lasted. I kept seeing this Fiskars maul and decided to gift my brother one. I tried it. Splits like a dream. Nice weight but the design is what makes a maul work and this one has a great design. The best thing is there are no more broken handles for my nephews to use as an excuse. Recently I had a girlfriend that had six cord of firewood needed split so I purchased another Fiskars. Her maul was a poor design and took a lot of work. She watched me using it and remarked about how it didn’t look like it took much effort. Exactly, I said. Don’t have the girlfriend any longer but my Fiskars is still with me! 🙂

Essential Tool for Serious Gardening and/or Digging. sing the Fiskars Pro IsoCore Garden Pick has been a revelation in my gardening toolkit. As someone who loves DIY projects outdoors, having sturdy and reliable tools is crucial, and this pick has not disappointed. What stands out immediately is the shock-absorbing handle. Digging through tough soil and rocks can be jarring, but the IsoCore handle significantly reduces the impact, making prolonged use much more comfortable. This feature alone has saved my hands from fatigue during long gardening sessions. The weight balance of the pick is also well-engineered. At 5 lbs, it’s heavy enough to break through compacted soil effectively without requiring excessive force. This makes it suitable for both amateur gardeners and more experienced landscapers who need a tool that can handle tough jobs.I particularly appreciate the durability of the materials. The steel head is robust and shows no signs of wear even after heavy use. It retains its sharpness, which is essential for efficient digging and breaking up soil. The orange and black design not only looks sleek but also makes it easy to spot in the garden or shed. One minor drawback is the length of the handle. While 36 inches is generally adequate, for taller individuals or when working in deep holes, a slightly longer handle would provide more leverage. However, this hasn’t been a significant issue for my average-sized garden beds.Overall, the Fiskars Pro IsoCore Garden Pick has become an indispensable tool in my gardening arsenal. Its ergonomic design, durability, and effective shock control make it a top choice for anyone serious about maintaining their outdoor spaces with ease and comfort.
Great tool. While it is a little pricey it was worth it. I reset some sprinklers and had to get thru some hard dirt near the edge of the sidewalk. I was able to get down and work around the edges of the existing pipe and edge of sidewalk without goofing anything up. It has a good weight to it so it broke up the soil. Well, the same time I was able to control it and not break the sprinkler line. Very sturdy tool.

Fantastik Pickaxe. I use this for digging out the roots of like 2-inch diameter shrub/tree kind of things. It worked great! I had been using a full-size pickax, but this thing is much more efficient. You can get down on your knees and immediately begin digging all around the various roots with incredible power. For the most part I was using the large end of the pickax not the small. The large end is not really super sharp but you can smash into roots with it and eventually break them in half. The pickax has enough weight where you can really lay into something. If you can dig down a few inches and get some roots into view and then cut them with a chainsaw, you can then attach a heavy strap or chain around the bush or small tree and connect it to a come-along alias winch and power out the whole bush or tree in a couple minutes of cranking. This is my preferred method for digging out large bushes, shrubs and small trees. And finally the pickax looks like it’s made really well and won’t break.I’m going to buy another one just for a back up because I definitely don’t want to use any other product.

Surprised with effectiveness of this splitter. Lots of options for splitting cut and blocked wood. This one exceeded my expectations on two cords thus far.1. cheap compared to electric or stationary wedge + sledge.2. effective on dry logs 16 x 16″ (ht. x dia.)3. portable and zero maintenance.4. easy on hands. just don’t overswing or miss. no detraction from rating for user error.5. great workout.
Great tool, a little hard to aim. I’m happy I paid extra to get a quality tool. This is nice for fresh wood, and knotty wood that is hard to split. The extra weight and the wedge shape work as designed. The handle works as advertised to reduce hand soreness.

Great splitting maul. This thing is a beast! I’ve only ever used my grandfather’s old school maul. This modern version is like going from an old rotary dial phone to a smart phone. The geometry is so much better and the handle design is awesome. I used to waste so much time trying to keep the old maul head tight and in place on the wooden handle. Not a problem with this new one! Plus I love the nice, big sledge face for pounding wedges. Definitely well worth the money to upgrade – sorry, Granddaddy…
holy cow. It’s a beast, in a good way. For a heavy maul, it’s surprisingly easy to handle, the balance is good and there really is very little shock delivered through the handle. Perhaps not quite on a level with the higher-end wood handles, but also not going to break. Overall, a fine tool.
