Work pretty well with Home Assistant. When Nest messed up their API on their WiFi smoke/CO detectors, I had to come up with something that my Home Assistant could integrate with. These foot the bill.Knock on wood, cooking, I have not set these off…yet? My only suggestion for improvement:Have them work together to alert if one goes off. I miss that function. That way, if someone is in one part of the house and the other one goes off, knowing to get out or trouble would be a good thing.Maybe have the way these work with Home Assistant to allow you to do the following:1.) Give HA the ability to trip the others if one goes off.2.) Give HA the ability to run tests on them every month.Another thing I oddly miss about my Nest is a little light. It would be a good thing to have a light on them in the event of a night time fire when the power is out or it is really dark in the area. Before Nest messed up their API, you could use the motion sensor on them as additional motion detectors. I get this would had cost to the unit but I would pay more for this feature if this was ever offered in the future.

  2. 2nd Generation reliability issues. I’ve bought 24 of these First Alert Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors since July 2018. Of those, 7 of them are the newer, 2nd Generation models, purchased since November 2020. Four of these 2nd Generation models were purchased in 2022 and two of these have now failed. Not the older ones.I purchased the 2nd Generation models because they support Z-Wave+ (Plus) which gives noticeably better battery life.I used to use them with a Z-Wave VeraPlus controller, so that any one of them being tripped would announce a house-wide alarm. I now use them with a Hubitat controller, which I’m very pleased with. The First Alert unit’s failure is indicated by three short beeps. The Hubitat controller shows the unit reporting “Hardware Failure.” Removing and reinserting the batteries has not resolved the issue. It will work for a while and then report hardware failure again.Overall I like the First Alert units and they work well with my Hubitat Z-Wave controller. I’m hoping that this newer release of the 2nd Generation units don’t continue to fail. The other unit that failed did so recently and was one units manufactured in March 2022.

  3. Sure did cheap out on the face print but works. Out of the box I thought it was the wrong detector because it looks like a cheap knockoff of the real thing compared to the listing image and the non-zwave first alert it replaced. They printed everything on the front, but in small print off to the side. Bought 2, both look the same and not like the listing image. That said, got it hooked up with HomeAssistant without needing any extra add-ons or such. All the stats are there and recognized correctly. Hopefully I’ll never need to test it.Will update if I run into any reliability issues down the road.

  4. Works with Smart Things. I love these and cannot sleep well without one. These work with my smart things hub and I get push notifications (text) to both my and my wifes phone. Several times we got these when things got burnt on the stove or oven and once when no one was home. Truely a home saver. I got this to replace a unit that just aged and there was a little frustration getting it set up. I will admit it was probably something I did but it is up a running now.

  5. It works with RING. I recently found out you should replace your smoke and/or C02 alarms if they are 10 years or older. So, this was the one I chose for the combination of smoke/C02 and the RING integration. There are zero instructions for the integration with RING, but lots of helpful videos out there to get it working.

  6. Perfect Product, Couldn’t Ask For More. Ring Integration is Excellent. I installed this 4 years ago and I love everything about. Install was smooth and easy. It integrates to Alexa/Ring perfectly. I accidentally blew my vape very close to it and it immediately went off. Alarm is extremely loud – loud enough to hear throughout the house. Even so, every Alexa in the house started yelling at me, in case there is a room far enough away that you couldn’t hear it. Additionally, I immediately got a phone call from Ring, asking if they should send emergency services.I don’t know that I should even voice my annoyance with an event. All Echo devices go to a 10 volume and the alarm itself is LOUD, so in an accidental activation, I found myself frantically screaming ‘ALEXA STOP!!!’ but could not be heard over the alarm. I struggled for a few seconds to stop the alarm using the button on the actual device. In the meantime, I answer my ringing phone to tell them not to send 911 but they couldn’t hear me until I managed to stop the chaos. To end it all, after I told them “There is no fire”, they called my secondary contact to confirm. That would be a nice feature if the alarm on the keypad were pressed by a DV victim, but for my smoke alarm going off, it seemed a bit unnecessary.Still, 10/10!!!

  7. Does what its supposed to. The alarm works as it is supposed to and was easy enough to integrate in home assistant via zwave, and is loud enough for its job. The functionality could be more robust, but i assume most of these are due to being a battery powered unit rather than hardwire:1. I wanted to be able to link these in home assistant such that when 1 went off, it would cause the rest to go off as well. Sadly this is not possible as the unit does not act as a listening device to conserve battery.2. For some reason the silence button doesnt seem to work. If the alarm is triggered, i have tried multiple times short and long pressing the silence button, but it just doesnt seem to do anything. I have to slide the battery tray out to turn it off. Not a big deal as the battery tray is easily accesible.

  8. Smart Protection & Peace of Mind for My Home. The **First Alert Battery Powered Z-Wave Smoke Detector & Carbon Monoxide Alarm** has been an excellent addition to my smart home setup. It integrates seamlessly with my Z-Wave system, allowing me to receive real-time alerts on my phone whenever smoke or CO levels are detected. The installation was super easy — no wiring, just pop in the batteries and mount it on the ceiling. One of my favorite features is the dual protection for both smoke and carbon monoxide, which gives me peace of mind knowing my family is protected. The battery-powered design makes it versatile to install anywhere without worrying about electrical connections. The battery life has also been impressive so far! This alarm has already integrated smoothly with my smart home hub and has been reliable without any false alarms. I love how I can check the status remotely and even get notifications when the battery is running low. For anyone looking for a reliable, smart-enabled smoke and CO detector, this is an excellent choice!

  9. Work Great with Ring. I have some older 1 generation models and I can say one big improvement with these second generation models is the super fast pairing time. It was way easier to pair these! Also really nice to be using these vs. the smoke alarm listener with ring. If you have a ring alarm these are 100% what you should use.

  10. Work Great with Ring. I have some older 1 generation models and I can say one big improvement with these second generation models is the super fast pairing time. 11. Excellent Product. Great product quality. I now have 3 connected to my security system

Paired easily with Ring Security. The First Alert Smoke and CO detector paired easily with my Ring security base unit. My only minor complaint is this version (Z Wave) uses a very similar but different mounting plate from the non-Z Wave version I was replacing. It actually fits the old plate but does not lock properly. The good news is the mounting screws are in the same position in both plates, so swapping them was not difficult. I had zero false alarms with the previous version after almost five years. I will report back if I experience any false alarms with this new Z-version, which has been reported as an issue in other reviews. A few days in and no problems to report.

  13. Solid construction and easy use with Ring and Alexa. I love that it’s a combo alarm so I don’t need two separate alarms. It’s great, solid quality. I had no issues adding it to my Ring alarm and Alexa. Two AA batteries is also nice; no having to use a traditional 9V that no one ever has at home. I would definitely get more of this unit in the future if needed.

  14. Works with Home Assistant. Mostly works fine. I was actually looking for a Zigbee Smoke/CO detector, but this Z-Wave unit was all I could find. So I had to set up a Z-Wave network alongside my existing Zigbee network. One issue I had at first is that I seemed to have to try repeatedly to get the unit to be connected to Home Assistant; this could take 30 ~ 40 minutes. I realized later that I simply had to wait. It does not show up in Home Assistant right away, but if you just wait 5 – 10 minutes it appears.I also had one unit out of eight that mis-fired; repeatedly giving me a false alarm, so I had to replace..

  15. My only complaint is that First Alert hasn’t kept a consistent mount size. A First Alert smoke and carbon monoxide detector – that integrates in with Ring as soon as it’s powered up – pop into the Ring app, accept the device, and configure where it is. Easy-peasy, lemon squeeze. It’s nice to be able to peek into the house and see that the alarm is quiet.Mounting on the ceiling was as easy as could be expected – you’re on a step-stool, working upside-down, trying to drive a pair of screws into the ceiling. A paper template would have been nice to include.
