  1. Updated Review: It FINALLY works. Okay, so I wanted to post an update to my original review (shown below)… First off–THANK YOU to Amazon’s tech support for your fantastic service. I had planned to call tech support to see if there were any ideas as to how to fix the problem described below but before I got to it THEY CALLED ME! On Sunday afternoon no less. Clearly Amazon pays close attention to the reviews people post. Their first call gave me some suggestions to try and said to get back in touch if they didn’t work. Well they didn’t work so I planned to call the next day but ran out of time. Then before I could get to it the next day THEY CALLED ME AGAIN! At this point I was utterly dumbfounded by the incredible level of customer service being provided–I mean really, who does this? Anyway during the second call we did finally manage to trouble shoot the problem and get it working. The solution we found was that there was a needed firmware update that wasn’t happening due to my router not being pointed to Google’s DNS servers (8.8.8.8) — something I normally do right away with a new router but as the eero routers came in the midst of Christmas, I just hadn’t gotten that done. So once the router was pointed at Google’s DNS servers I had to unplug all the routers except the primary one attached to my ISP modem. At that point the update happened quickly, the glow started working correctly, I brought all the other routers back online and moved the glow to it’s final position and it continued working properly. It has been working properly for several days now without issue so I think we can safely say, “problem solved.” Hallelujah! Oh, and to top it off, Amazon called back again the next morning to verify that the glow was still working properly! Wow. Just wow.So in the end, I’m moving my rating from 1 star to 4 stars. The customer service was 5+ stars. However I still have to ding the device just a little because the problem was caused by the glow needing an update it couldn’t get because of a compatibility issue with my router’s default settings. I’d normally let this slide but in this case the router (an Amazon Eero) and the device (an Amazon Echo Glow) were both brand new and arrived on the same day from the same company (Amazon) and yet for some bizarre reason were incompatible until I manually repointed the DNS server address. That seems like a somewhat dumb oversight and has to dock the rating at least a star. That said, the device works, my daughter is elated, and I look like a hero in her eyes. So, yeah, Amazon’s technical assistance absolutely rocks! Thanks!———-This is just a totally defective product. Got it for my 7 year old daughter for Christmas and she loved the idea but the REALITY of it made her want to cry and me want to crush it with a rock.Set up was a breeze and for the 5 or 10 minutes that it worked, it was fun. But then every time she’d ask Alexa to change the light we’d hear “Echo Glow is not responding.” I checked our eero app to see if it was online and I could see it continually connect and disconnect from wifi over and over. Amazon says to just unplug it and plug it back in and it will reconnect—FALSE! It NEVER reconnects so you have to go into the Alexa app on your phone and delete the device and then manually set it up again. I did this no less than 20 times on Christmas and every time it would stop responding after a few minutes. So I decided it must be a defective unit and requested an exchange.A week later we had a new echo glow. I set it up and everything seemed to work just fine. Until… “Echo Glow is not responding.” Same exact thing. So this time I decided maybe it just has really lousy WiFi antennae so I moved a router into the same room about 10 feet away and set it up again. Everything worked fine… for 7 minutes and then, “Echo Glow is not responding.”At this point I can definitively say that this is a systemic problem and this product is just absolute junk. Thanks for that Amazon! Please in the future, before you release a product specifically target at kids, try a little harder to make sure it’s not junk. I cannot even begin to understand how this product has anything but 1-star reviews. Oh and for anybody that may think it’s just user error, I should tell you that I’ve worked in IT for over 10 years with 3 major corporations and a major research university. Pretty sure that I am not the problem.

  3. The box says for ages 3-99 LOL. Of course, I purchased this toy for ME, but I need a three year old to come and show me how it works. It’s not as intuitive as I would like. It’s fun to play around with. It has a USB port instead of the usual two prong electrical outlet plug. Because it had USB powered, I wrongly assumed that it might have some battery life. There is no battery. It has to be plugged in to be on. I thought I might be able to take it outside as shown in one of the pictures, but that would require a long USB cord. This is a nice gadget to play around with and I’m glad that I bought it. I’m sure it will find a place to live in my house and we will play and be happy here, I hope until I am 99.UPDATE: After playing around with this lamp a couple of days, there are several features that are worth mentioning:There are already loaded routines, as described, for example: Valentines (pink, purple, red), Disco (flashing multicolored), Dragon Fire (Orange , red flickering) and more. It can also be set to glow constant at your favorite color and brightness can be controlled with the Alexa app.I am now using it as a day/ night like light that I like to use so that I don’t have to enter a dark room at night. I can turn it on/off on the app. It’s just a good amount of pleasant light to safely enter a dark room.A routine I am using is the visual alarm clock that wakes me with light, instead of sound. As long is the light is plugged in, the routine will work. Again, it really is a lamp with a USB port, no battery power.Enjoying this addition to my toy collection.

  4. Echo Glow – Affordable Versatility to Light Up Your Home. The Echo Glow has quickly become one of my favorite additions to my smart home setup. Affordable and versatile, I now have two of them—one in my baby’s room and another strategically placed behind my PS5 and TV. This nifty little device not only adds a cool technological touch to my home but also serves as a multi-functional lamp that adapts to different moods. One of the things I love most about the Echo Glow is its adaptability. You can place it behind objects to create a stunning lightning decoration that gives your house a futuristic look. This feature truly shines when you want to set the mood or add an aesthetic touch to your home’s interior.I’ve used the Echo Glow as a lamp in various areas of my house, and it’s been a game-changer. The ability to adjust the brightness and color to match the atmosphere I desire is fantastic. Whether I’m reading a book, enjoying a movie night, or simply winding down after a long day, the Echo Glow provides the perfect lighting. The different modes and effects are where the Echo Glow truly stands out. In my PS5 setup, I have it configured with a slow blue breathing effect, creating an immersive and dynamic backlighting experience. It adds an extra layer of excitement to my gaming sessions. Plus, I can change the effects with voice commands through Alexa and set up routines to adapt to the time of day seamlessly. The Echo Glow’s integration with Alexa is a big plus. It makes controlling the lighting easy and convenient, whether I want to change colors, set timers, or create custom routines. It seamlessly fits into my smart home ecosystem. In summary, the Echo Glow is a versatile and budget-friendly addition to any smart home. Its ability to transform your space with different lighting effects and moods is impressive. Whether you want to add a cool technological touch to your home or create dynamic lighting for specific activities, the Echo Glow delivers. I can’t recommend it enough, especially for those who enjoy a touch of tech-savvy decor and ambiance control. It’s a fantastic investment that adds both style and functionality to your living space.

  5. My son’s night light. This is my son’s night light. I got tired of having to turn his old one on and off, as well trying to find the exact brightness with different watts or soft white or white bulbs. With this he tells Alexa himself (he also has his own dot with a clock to set his own alarms) now to turn on and off, as well as he can get the brightness to exactly what he wants by telling Alexa to make it lighter or brighter until he gets the perfect light shade. He’s 11 yrs old so time to start being responsible for these things himself and this works!

  6. A “hiidden” feature and the truth about using commands and routines. The media could not be loaded. ***HIDDEN FEATURE***What’s the “hidden” feature of the echo glow? The tap function that changes the glow’s color can also respond to the vibrations from a music speaker. If you place the glow next to or on top of a speaker, it will change colors to the beat of the baseline. The more powerful the speaker and the closer to the speaker the glow is placed the more sensitive it will be to the vibrations.***THERE IS NO MUSIC SYNC MODE***The hidden feature described above is the closest thing that glow has to a “music mode”. There’s no other feature available to sync your echo glow to music. It’s strange and disappointing that the glow doesn’t have an included music sync mode seeing as it’s a Wi-Fi enabled device that connects to Alexa speakers.Amazon implies that echo glow is able to respond to music if you give its connected echo speaker device the command “start a dance party” assuming both devices are in the same group. This supposed feature is advertised on the echo glow’s product page. However the echo glow and Amazon echo speakers seemingly no longer support this command that is still being advertised.Instead, if you give this command alexa responds with an advertisement for the echo Barbie theme.Even back when the command did work all it did was set the echo glow into disco mode which does not sync to music and which you can do yourself from the Alex app.Disco mode changes colors VERY quickly, probably faster than the glow would change colors if actually synched to most music.***ROUTINES***You can enable the echo glow’s sunrise function, where the glow slowly gets brighter and brighter over a period of time before the alarm goes off, by setting up a routine for an alarm that includes the glow or by simply commanding “Alexa set an alarm for ___ time with echo glow”.As I understand it if you set up this alarm through the app/routine you can choose the length of the period of time over which the echo glow brightens but if you set up this alarm just through a voice command the default period of time the glow gets brighter over is 15 minutes. It’s worth noting that if you buy an alarm clock that has a sunrise function, such as the one made by Phillips, such an alarm clock can cost more than an echo glow just by itself alone. However, those more expensive Sunrise light alarm clocks typically include a light that gets much brighter than an echo glow can.If you want to set a rainbow timer, another feature advertised on the echo glow’s product page, you simply say, “Alexa set a ___ minute rainbow timer with ___”. Again, be sure to refer to your echo glow by whatever name you’ve given it in the Alexa app.I’m not sure if it’s possible to set routine rainbow timers. I will quote here the only answer I found online claiming that it’s possible:“In the Alexa app, go to your echo glow.Scroll down and select “create a routine.”Tap the + in the upper right to make a new one.Enter the name you want this routine to be called (morning alarm, time to get up, etc).Under “when this happens” you pick “schedule” then enter the time of day then it will ask you what days you want this to happen on.Under “add action” you choose “smart home” then “lights” then your echo glow. Then if you pick mode and set it to color glow, I believe it rotates through the colors like a rainbow”Another review from a parent recounted how they use the option of scheduling glow color changes along with Alexa announcements, through the use of routines, to help their special needs child transition from one activity to another. I personally don’t use my echo glow like that but but it does seem like this device could be uniquely helpful for parents or teachers in this way. There are of course many other routines that you could invent for your echo glow. You could have it turn red if your ring house alarm is activated and then have it turn turn green when you turn the alarm off. You could connect it to a motion detector and have it come on to light up dark hallways.***COMMANDS***Alexa is very picky about responding to commands for the echo glow. For example let’s assume you’ve named your echo glow simply “glow” in the alexa app.If you were then to say to your connected echo speaker “Alexa, echo glow campfire mode” that command would not work because you called it “echo glow” instead of just “glow”.In general If you have changed the name of your echo glow in the Alexa app be sure to refer to it by that name when giving commands. Also, if you gave it a command such as “alexa, make glow campfire mode” or “ alexa, turn glow campfire mode” those commands would not work because you used the words “make” or “turn” and Alexa apparently does not like those action words for commanding the echo glow to switch into a preset color change mode.If instead, you gave the command as “Alexa set glow campfire mode” that command will work, because apparently alexa likes the action word “set” for commanding color change modes. You can also just exclude an action word altogether, and give the command “Alexa glow campfire mode”. This is actually the best way to command the glow to switch into a color change mode. Its almost just the opposite when commanding the glow to switch into a solid state color. You MUST include an action word in your command and the glow will accept “set”, “turn”, or “make”. For example, “alexa ____ glow green” using any of those three action words in the blank space. You would think that a decent AI would be able to figure out your intentions despite the minor variations but Alexa’s infamous inability to figure out simple commands it should reasonably be expected to know continues on with the echo glow.***PRICING***If you’re only use for the glow is as a nightlight or ambient light it’s a little pricey for what it is and you would do well to wait for a prime day discount when you can typically get it for half off.***ADDRESSING POINTS MADE IN OTHER REVIEWS***The dome of the light is plastic and not glass as some other reviewers claimed.Several reviewers complained that the light does not get very bright and wirh most of the colors this is true however the “white” color is significantly brighter than the other colors. At 100% brightness the white color is enough to read by if placed bedside. Many reviewers seemed disappointed that this was not a portable battery operated device. This is a plug in product that uses a USB charging cable however it can operate off of an echo dot battery base if you are willing to purchase that separately. It is true that the glow does not include a speaker and must be controlled through either a connected echo speaker by voice or through the Alexa app and more complex routines can only be set up through the Alexa app.The issues the glow initially had with difficult set ups and wifi connectivity that many earlier reviewers pointed out seem to have been resolved with software updates.I have confirmed that two echo glows cannot be synced together. If you want two glows to be a certain color you will have to command each separately and it will be close to impossible to get two or more glows’ color change modes to sync up.***FINAL WORDS***The echo glow is a fun product that’s probably a little over priced if you buy it at full cost.It makes for a great night light and a halfway decent sunrise alarm. It makes an OK synced music light if you set it right next to or on top of a speaker.People who use the glow as a nightlight should be aware that blue lights at night can disrupt your sleep patterns. So if you or your children are using it as a night light you might want to choose colors with very little blue light in them such as red, orange or gold. It’s very picky with what commands it responds to you so you’ll have to get used to that.Amazon missed a good opportunity by not including a music sync mode with the echo glow. It’s also too bad that you can’t create your own modes for the echo glow and are restricted to choosing from the preset modes included with it.If you were looking for a light to back light a television used for movies or gaming the echo glow is a mediocre choice. It will not change colors along with the images on the screen or to music and the larger your TV is the weaker the glow’s light will be from behind it.For less money than an echo glow, you can get a strip of color changing LED lights with a remote that you can stick along the backside of your television. If you’re willing to spend a little bit more money than that, you can get a product made by GOVEE, which includes a camera that faces your TV and the tv backlights will change in sync to the images on the screen. If you want to spend a lot more money, you can invest in the Phillips Hue sync lights for back lighting TVs.

  7. Awesome Night Light. The Amazon Echo Glow is an innovative device that combines the smart functionality of the Amazon Echo with the charming design of a night light. This device is perfect for those who enjoy the convenience of a smart speaker but also want a calming, ambient light in their room. With its customizable brightness and color, the Echo Glow can create a calming atmosphere in any space. It is also very easy to set up and use.The Echo Glow is a small, spherical device that can be easily placed on a nightstand or desk. It features a smooth surface that feels nice to the touch, and its compact design means it won’t take up much space. The device also comes in a variety of cute colors, including blue, pink, and purple, making it easy to find one that suits your style. One of the best aspects of the Echo Glow is its ease of use. It is very simple to set up, and all you need to do is plug it in and connect it to your Wi-Fi network using the Amazon Echo app. Once you’ve paired it with your network, you can control it using voice commands, just like a regular Amazon Echo device.Once the Echo Glow is set up, you can use it to play music, ask it questions, or even control other smart devices in your home, such as lights and thermostats. However, what really sets the Echo Glow apart from regular Echo devices is its ability to act as a night light. You can use it to set a routine for your child’s bedtime, or simply use it to create a calming ambiance in your own bedroom. Its customizable brightness and color make it an excellent solution for those who want a gentle light in their room, without having to use a bright lamp. One of the most unique aspects of the Echo Glow is its ability to change its brightness and color based on the music you’re listening to. If you’re listening to calming music, the light will dim and turn to a softer shade of blue or purple. Similarly, if you’re listening to upbeat music, the light will brighten and turn to a bright shade of purple.Overall, the Amazon Echo Glow is an excellent choice for those who love the convenience of a smart speaker, but also want a calming, ambient light in their room. Its ease of use, compact design, and customizable brightness and color make it a unique and valuable addition to any home.

  8. Just perfect for kids bedroom. Looking for a replacement night light for my toddler. Came across this and works out great. Small enough to put anywhere in the room. Surprisingly how bright it is. Found I have to set to 10% brightness at night, other wise to bright in room. Works great. Easy to set up in Alexa app and works great with app and echo.

  9. Got this to keep monsters away. My 5 year old just transitioned to his own room. We needed something to keep the monsters away and he loves that this light is customizable. We bought it used on Amazon and it looks and seems brand new! Easily accessible via Amazon Alexa app, can change to solid colors or there are different modes to have the colors do different things. Super cool night light.

  10. Love this. This is great for a kiddos room and makes for a great light to wind down at the end of the night to read a book and relax. Also a great nightlight- easy access from Alexa on your phone, turning on/off, dimming changing color- a ton of colors!Lightweight and not huge and bulky! This product is one of my parenting must haves.

  13. So impressed that I purchased a second one. I didn’t know what to expect but these are very cool. Priced very reasonably and has so many features. The plain solid color (especially white) is adjustable and can become EXTREMELY bright (and of course you can adjust the brightness). It has an array of color options, the ability to turn in and off a feature to allow physical touch to change the color but in addition it has MANY different color patterns pre installed (everything from Christmas, Campfire, mood, and even police lights that flash, oh and I almost forgot it has a ❝Night Owl❞ option that allows its use in low light situations.I bought 2 for myself and multiple others as Christmas gifts and I’m still consider buying a 3rd one for myself.

  14. Such a good value ⭐️. We love this light! We almost bought a traditional lamp and I’m glad we didn’t!The glow is so easy to use and convenient. The lighting colors and brightness make it nice to have so many options. It’s bright enough to light up a small room but also can go dim enough to serve as a night light. We love that it can run on commands from Alexa. We would buy this again!

  15. Love this lamp. We love this lamp. We bought it after we forgot our rechargeable one at Grandmas. It came fast and was easy to set up, less than 5 minutes for a non-tech savvy person. It is required to stay plugged in, versus the competition whose is rechargeable and portable. The plug and lamp never get hot or warm, which was a huge worry of mine about the rechargeable brands. We love the voice commands and the kids love all the color choices. It has an option to set colored alarms which is really nice, though we haven’t quite figured out how to get it to actually work. It is also voice dimmable, say “Alexa, turn my nightlight to “x” percent”, or all the features can be controlled by the Alexa app. You can also touch it in or off if you choose. I no longer have nightlight anxiety thinking it will catch fire in the middle of the night and we never have to worry about it losing its charge part way through the night. We will definitely be purchasing more in the future for other areas of our home.

  16. Love it. The Echo Glow (newest model) is a great addition to any smart home setup, especially if you’re already using Alexa. This multicolor smart lamp adds a touch of ambiance to any room, with customizable colors and brightness that can easily be controlled through voice commands or the Alexa app. I love that it’s versatile enough to be used as a nightlight, a decorative piece, or even as a mood light for parties or relaxation. The lamp can also sync with other Alexa-compatible devices, such as music or alarms, which adds an extra layer of fun and practicality. The setup was a breeze—just plug it in, connect it to your Wi-Fi, and it’s ready to go. The color-changing feature is seamless, and the brightness can be adjusted easily to suit any need. It’s also energy-efficient, and I’ve noticed no increase in my electric bill despite having it on for long periods. The design is sleek and modern, fitting in well with different styles of decor. Whether you want to set the mood with soothing colors or brighten up your space, this smart lamp has got you covered. I highly recommend the Echo Glow for anyone looking to add smart lighting to their home.

  17. Worth the money. We purchased this for our boys to use as night light as they were leaving their lights on all night. They absolutely loved it. It changes color with just a tap, small enough to fit on their night stand. It was very easy to set up and it’s not too bright, enough for them to fall asleep easily. Over all, we love it. Highly recommend for little kids since they find it very cool.
