  1. Surprisingly loud speaker and fun theme. I just recently purchased this for my son’s 6th birthday to help him have an option for audiobooks, alarm clock, and listening to music and he LOVES it! He greets Alexa every time he gets home and says goodnight to her and gets a bedtime story from her while he waits for me to come read to him and tuck him in. We have successfully added a few Alexa skills (including Big Fart which MAY have been a mistake on my part) and so far they seem to work pretty well.Pros:- Cute dragon theme and image (Alexa introduces herself and says she likes to pretend she is a dragon and has a kid-friendly voice character)- Optional additional Dragon Egg Cradle (have not personally purchased yet but am tempted)- Great resource to allow kids access to audiobooks and learning materials with parental controls through the parent dashboard- 1 year free subscription to Amazon Kids+ which is a great deal if you have an amazon kids tablet already (same price as you already pay for a year and an echo dot? Yes please!)- An avenue for little ones to ask some of their random questions to someone other than overloaded parents- Many cool Alexa skills from independent companies (Math practice games? Yes! Talk to Pikachu? Yes!)- Alarm clock, speaker, nightlight and more in one!Cons:- Alexa can sometimes get very confused. This can be frustrating for anyone, but especially for little ones with little tolerance for the pitfalls of technology. Sometimes she doesn’t hear you correctly and says she can’t do something they know she can do. Sometimes she starts playing music while doing another skill and the speaker just can’t take it. Sometimes she just plain doesn’t listen the first 10 times you try and ask. It’s…….. frustrating and stressful when this happens to say the least. Teach your little one how to reset Alexa if this happens so they can feel in control instead of having a meltdown or running out screaming over her.- Not all of the Alexa skills work quite how they are meant to and will totally mess Alexa up and require a reset and removal of the skill entirely.- Alexa has very specific commands and these can be hard to remember sometimes. Consider writing out or typing up a list of the most common commands for little ones to help them remember the right order of words.- The Echo dot can get surprisingly loud and when you ask Alexa to turn down the volume it is in very small increments so you will need to do it manually if they have somehow turned it up to blasting.- After Alexa’s bedtime has hit she will not respond to any commands or be able to use any skills. This includes asking her to stop playing something she already was, using a nightlight skill, or setting an alarm. The only option you have after her off time is to manually reset it so she goes quiet. The timer options are awesome tools to keep little ones from turning her on and playing with her instead of going to bed, but does restrict some of the bedtime options you could have like the nightlight.Overall, we have loved our experience with this product so far and it has only been in use for about a week (but pretty constantly). We’ll see how this holds up over time!

  5. Super Cute, Frustrating Setup. My daughter loves this smart speaker that we have named “Hootie the Echo Owl.” I initially set it up and then waited until later for my daughter could go through some of the Alexa training. When I returned, the I could not figure out how to continue the remainder of the setup. So I ended up rebooting the unit several times to start over. After about 5 reboots I managed to get it to take us through the setup so Hootie and Alexa could start to get used to my kid’s voice. Setup should have been a lot easier especially considering we also have the eero mesh wifi network.GRIPE: Why doesn’t EVERY Echo Dot have the ability to display the time as LED lights? You can toggle it on/off per your preference, but it would make sense that every Dot could also display the time.

  6. I love my Echo. She is my personal secretary. Although sometimes I wanna pinch her for not listening correctly or her volume will sometimes change drastically. I don’t like the I don’t know answer either. It has a while web to search, failing this job is a bit disappointing. She is a great timer, reminder, and alarm. Failed me today with my messages though. My groceries were dropped off and they messaged but she did not let me know. So, she drops the ball sometimes and is definitely not high end smart tech tbh but she I very useful and adorable. Like her better than most people.

  7. Perfect. I bought this when it was on the back to school sale. It’s a game changer! My child loves having it in their room and being able to listen to music and ask all the questions. lolI’m impressed with the parental controls too. I’m able to control more than I thought. For me what makes it a game changer is the ability to make announcements and call him through the device. Up until now I’ve had to either yell upstairs or go up there if I needed something. Which was often. Now I can announce dinner and call him. It’s great. He loves calling me too!The reason why I didn’t give it 5 stars is because you can only stream music thru one device at a time.

  8. Best gift for kids. I was tired of my kids always using my Alexa and taking it to their rooms for music. I decided to buy them each a kid’s Alexa and I’d have to say it was probably one of the best gifts I’ve gotten them in a while. They use it daily! My kids love the cute dragon design on the outside and they love the different voices it has compared to the regular Alexas. One of my favorite things about it is the parental controls and the ability to block out explicit content. The kids also really enjoy all the kid’s games you can play with the Alexa as well. The sound is great, never too loud to be bothersome. I now have an Alexa in every room in my house. One con to this is that it does sometimes have issues connecting to the internet which obviously frustrates us all but it’s rare that happens.

We love our Alexa. The owl design of the Alexa speaker is absolutely charming and a delightful addition to any room. Its whimsical look makes it especially appealing for kids’ rooms or as a fun decorative piece. Beyond the design, it functions just as well as any other Alexa device, providing all the usual smart assistant features like controlling smart home devices, playing music, setting reminders, and answering questions. The sound quality is surprisingly good for its size, and the owl theme adds a playful touch that makes interacting with Alexa more enjoyable. It’s both functional and fun, making it a great purchase!

  10. we LOVE it. We recently added the Echo Dot Owl to our home, and it has quickly become a favorite for my preschooler! The ability to control her nightlight and change its color to match her mood has made bedtime much more enjoyable. She loves experimenting with the different hues, creating a cozy atmosphere just for her. What really impressed me is how well Alexa responds to her little voice. Even when she doesn’t articulate clearly, Alexa understands her requests—much better than I expected! My daughter enjoys asking for music, and I appreciate that it pulls from her Spotify Kids account, ensuring that the songs playing are always age-appropriate.She’s also discovered the joy of storytelling; she frequently asks Alexa to tell her a story. We’ve started using it as a timer for her activities and even as a gentle alarm in the mornings. On top of all these fantastic features, the design of the Echo Dot Owl is super cute! We’re even considering getting the little nest stand for added charm. Overall, this device has been a wonderful addition to our home, providing entertainment, comfort, and a touch of magic for my child. I highly recommend it for any family with young kids!

  11. Excellent for kids. The Echo Dote is so cute and easy for kids to use and they have parental control

  12. Perfect. We loved our first echo so much we got a second one! It’s small, has a good speaker, easy to control and easy to travel with. Its functionality is exactly what we need – we use as a timer, speaker and for weather updates. We almost never have connectivity issues.

  13. Perfect for a Kid-Friendly Smart Room – Engaging, Educational, and Fun. I love this smart device for my toddler’s room! The cute design and variety of fun voices make it super engaging. One of my favorite features is the ‘Daily News Just for Kids,’ which shares fun science facts and new discoveries each day. There are also plenty of kid-friendly skills—like Amazon Storytime for bedtime and music playback for favorite songs during the day. The first year of the subscription is free, with a small fee afterward (check the terms), but it’s definitely worth it. I also turned my toddler’s room into a smart room, so he can ask Alexa to turn the lights on and off since he can’t reach the switch yet. It’s educational and convenient, and my child loves interacting with it!

  14. Great for kids. Super cool for kids. My kiddo is 6 and can play any song she wants and ask a lot of questions like what the weather is or even what the capital of Canada is. Very cool item to have. It has a kids voice too that my kiddo loves. Great price also. Very easy to use.

  17. Adore it. This is for me , not a kid. The owl motif is adorable. The sound is GREAT! I was able to turn off the kids functionality and use it as a regular echo dot. I did have some difficulty unpairing it from my gen 2 echo dot ,but when done it runs well. Love this little guy!

  18. great for kids – highly recommend. Sound quality is good for clear and can even change to different kid friendly voices, size is very good it’s cute but out of the way ! Easy to use and set up through the app but you will have to mess with the settings depending on your kiddo, quality is great I recommend this Alexa for maybe 13 and under

  19. Most used Christmas present! Awesome product for all kids. The gift that keeps on giving! Works well with the other Alexa systems in our house. The parental controls through the Alexa app are awesome. Very easy to set up. My daughter uses this every day from music, stories, alarm clock, etc. to jokes and bed time stories. This is a great gift for kids!

  20. So cute. My 5 year old nephew comes over for a visit and is obsessed with our Alexa’s! When I saw that there was a kids version it was the perfect Christmas gift for him!. This one is catered to young kids and settings to keep them safe. It understands him and responds correctly. Sound quality is good. The owl is cute with a fun color.
