Cheap, and saved us a repair/replacement. In my location, hard water is a known issue. This was for an eight year old dishwasher, which had become VERY loud over the past six months. Certain cycles made it sound as though a semi was idling in our kitchen. I had tried everything I could think of or find via research (cleaning the filter in the bottom, running a cycle with just a dish of vinegar in the top drawer, soaking upper and lower spin arms in vinegar), to no avail. Saw these, and thought, “well, cheap enough it’s worth a shot, and if we have to have the dishwasher repaired/replaced, may add longevity once the issue is corrected.”I wasn’t expecting much, as vinegar is typically quite good at clearing hard water deposits. I was wrong. After one full cycle, the dishwasher sounded like it was brand new! I went ahead and ran one more tab through it to be sure, and here we are months later, with no further issues. Lesson learned, I’ll begin running these every few months or so, to be certain I can stay ahead of the buildup. Worth a shot if you are experiencing issues (saved me a few hundred dollars minimum!), and if you have hard water, probably worth it as preventative maintenance.
The deodorizer definitely works. So I’m my defense I didn’t grow up with a dishwasher. And I’ve rented my entire adult life so when I moved into my current apartment I had no idea that I was supposed to somehow be maintaining my dishwasher. I hardly ever used it anyway but after having 2 under 2 the dishes began to pile up and I read using a dishwasher would save water. It had a bad smell the day we moved in. Again didn’t use it so I didn’t care but after I decided to use it I figured that couldn’t be right. I followed the instructions and took out the filter and was properly traumatized. I used 2 pods after scrubbing the filter as best I could. The dishwasher smells 1000% better. There was spots of black stuff coming from who knows where leftover but I was able to wipe it out. I decided to do a second run since it was so bad. It’s running at the moment and I peeked in and saw there’s still black stuff floating! I feel like it isn’t a fair comparison since my dishwasher was so dirty so time will tell how well it cleans and I’ll update my review but so far I’m pretty happy with the results.
It does the job well. We have seriously hard water!! So much so, it would leave a white powdery film on my dishes and the inside of the dishwasher. My dishwasher is a top of the line model so it just didn’t make any sense as to why this was happening! The white powder was all over the inside of the dishwasher too. So I bought these tablets and started out by running a heavy load on hot with 4 tablets. When I opened the dishwasher afterwards, I was blown away! It looked brand new! I know the directions say to only put one tablet in and run it but that powder was bad and I tried scrubbing it by hand and it would not budge!! I used bleach and then vinegar and it was still there! If you’re having these issues, try cleaning it with 4 tablets! It works! I now run the dishwasher with these tablets twice a week with two tablets. It’s made all the difference!
Jury is still out…. We ran two cycles with the tablets. I think it’s helping but we still have scale buildup on the heating element. We should have bought these a while ago, maybe we wouldn’t have this issue. I’ll come back and update my rating after we’ve been using them for a few months.
