  1. I Pimped My Bics (See Pic). I have a love/hate relationship with these Bic pencils. To begin with, I dislike the idea of buying a bunch of plastic semi-disposable pencils. You CAN refill them, but the leads often cost more than just buying new pencils, so that fact alone infuriates me on principle. I compared a package of 30 Bic lead refills to this package of 40 pencils and it came out to be over 2 1/2 times more expensive to buy the refills (given that each one of these pencils comes with 3 leads, so that’s 120 leads). But on this occasion, I really did need extra pencils anyway. I keep these in various locations and use them in the field and in all-weather conditions, so nice ones get lost, borrowed or ruined. The main thing I like about these particular pencils is the lead. It’s fairly strong for 0.7mm and it’s fairly dark and crisp. I also like that they have clips, although I find the clips do break easily, for example, when I clip to them to my clipboard clamp. But for attaching to pages of a notebook or a thin pocket they’re fine. I also like that the barrels all look alike, with the exception of different color clips. I can’t stand reaching for a pencil and wondering if this one is lousy or if this one is decent, which happens when I buy different pencils from different brands that are all various colors. One thing I really dislike about these pencils is the shape and manufacturing of the barrel design. The flat sides hurt my fingers, I much prefer a round pencil. Also, they’re manufactured with a noticeable seam that I can feel and it sometimes digs into my fingers. Maybe I have sensitive fingers or something, who knows, but it drives me nuts. Before I discovered pencil grips I’d actually sand the seams with fine grit sandpaper. So, between my last purchase of these Bics and this most recent purchase, I went around to local Dollar Stores and bought some of their mechanical pencils, hoping to find something affordable but nicer to hold. I got two packs, each from a different store. One pack had lousy leads, very light/pale lead which broke easily. It had nice pencil grips, but lousy lead. The other package had surprisingly good and dark lead, but cheap, slippery grips. They’ve all just been sitting around because I can’t stand the idea of throwing them out. So I had an idea when I bought these Bics: I “parted out” my dollar store pencils. I took the good grips from the one batch, along with the matching erasers, and I’ll use the good leads from the other batch, and I’ll put all these onto the Bics! The result is a better – and more fun looking Bic. See my photo. Note that the colorful grips and colorful erasers do not come with these pencils, but look how cool they are now, they match the Bic clips and everything. I’ll of course save the white Bic erasers as spares. As an added bonus, I also discovered that the dollar store erasers are significantly larger than the white big erasers. I’d say a good 3mm longer. This was really just a way to try to reuse materials that I wasted money on, but it turned out to be a legitimate upgrade to these Bics. Now the manufacturing seam and flat sides no longer bother me. And when I run out of leads I’m going to try and find some generic ones that are still dark, because paying more for refill leads than the actual pencils is still insanity no matter how nicely I dress these up.

  3. Most practical pencils ever. I grew up with these, so I may be biased but they are great. They have plenty of lead storage and I use them to write and sketch and even occasionally make entire drawings. The eraser on the end actually works which is always a plus and it’s hard enough that it lasts longer than other mechanical pencils. The only problem is if you break the lead and it’s too short to feed through.

  6. Great for the kids for school. These pencils are very durable writes smooth, don’t seam to smear, the color of the marking on the paper is very clear, the brightness of the pencils are nice, and easy clean up if it gets on the table. I will be buying more as needed. I do recommend these pencils

  7. Perfect for my teens. A large pack of pencils like this is great for my teens who ALWAYS loose them or loan them out. These write smooth, great colors, and my kids love them.

  8. Great price and no big complaints. I was stunned at the price for a big pack of pencils like this. They are great for the school year. Very smooth, good quality graphite, easy to use. Love the bright colors. The only complaint I have is they aren’t very ergonomic. I assume hands will get sore after holding the pencil for a long time.

  9. Awesome price. This was a great price point for the amount of mechanical pencils that you get. If you have a student who is prone to losing their pencils, this is a great product. They are workhorses, sturdy get the job done.

  10. W cop for college and school in general. Got these for class and these are a necessity for everything. I’ve stuck pencils in my home’s pencil holder, my bookbag, my car, and even the kitchen. These are the best pencils someone can possibly buy, especially in bulk

Great product. Great for the budget and good quality, I highly recommend.

  14. Perfect. These pencils are perfect and will last you the whole year. They are a very good deal also

  15. Great quality and quantity for its value. This is great if you need a bulk of pencils for a good value. I have been using only one for the past 2-3 weeks. The lead inside is 0.7mm, which I prefer, which allows me to write flawlessly. It is quite durable as it has not broken yet unless I have to break it off. Overall, this is a great buy.

  16. A solid no-frills option for writing. My use for pencils tends to be simple writing and working on puzzle books, so I don’t need elaborate control, high precision, or refillable barrels. Instead I simply want a reasonably priced and reliable writing instrument that does not result in heartache if lost. These Bic pencils are perfect for me. The variety of bright colors is an added bonus. The writing tips are prone to break if too much pressure is used, but this is an issue that plagues so many mechanical pencils and is easily fixed with a click or two of the button.

  20. Value: Good quality and price. If you’re buying these as a teacher for a class, this is the best value.Other mechanical pencils often break too easily to put in the hands of students.Other mechanical pencils have no or just 1 lead in them. These come loaded with enough lead and last a long time.

  21. As a teacher these mechanical pencils are a lifesaver in my classroom. I’m pretty sure my students eat their pencils because they never seem to have one when needed. That’s why I stock up on these mechanical pencils—they’re affordable, reliable, and always ready to use. The bright colors are fun and make them stand out, so students are less likely to lose them (at least, I hope!).The best feature by far is that they’re mechanical.
