Product Features

A quick-reference guide to roses, herbs, and edible flowers for gardeners with little experience and time.

Roses represent love and beauty. Their colors and fragrance create the standard by which many other flowers are measured. Cultivated around the world for perfume, roses have a sweet and unforgettable scent. However, many would-be rose gardeners believe that roses require constant care and lavish doses of sprays and chemicals. Roses do require attention, but their glorious flowers make all your efforts worthwhile, and the roses in this book were chosen because they are tried-and-true, proven performers.

Of the many types of plants that grow in our gardens, herbs and edible flowers hold a very special place. People use herbs and edible flowers to heal their bodies, calm their minds, add fragrance to their homes, and flavor and preserve their foods—herbs improve the quality of our lives.

This colorful, photo-filled book takes the guesswork out of gardening with the easiest-to-grow and best-performing roses, herbs, and edible flowers. No trial and error—get it right the first time!

  1. Good book. Good book

  2. Barely a book. I now understand why there were no authors listed for this book: it isnt a book. It does a wonderful job of looking like a book, the rounded edges and full page photos are eye catching and pleasant. Whatever graphic designers laid out this book did an amazing job, it is lovely. It is just that no one was making sure it was actually a book. There is significantly more information on these plants in a seed catalog, plant website, or personal blog about edible plants, anywhere it seems like an actual person was thinking and caring about the subject. These anonymous writers seemed mostly concerned about churning a book out as fast as a website looking for easy clicks. I am not exactly sure why the ‘writers’ had the gall to put the word edible in the title of this so called book. The book reads like an advertisement rather than a reference or even an introduction to the subject. a full half of this book is taken up by rose varieties, where there is no mention for many roses what the fragrance is, which is the only way to tell what its culinary quality will be. the adage is that roses often taste like they smell, a basic thing to learn about cooking with roses that was also never mentioned. the fact that you cannot spray roses you intend to eat was also not mentioned, which is potentially dangerous for the would be rose eater. there was basically no advice about the culinary side of roses despite half the book being a simplistic, incomplete rose catalog. if you know absolutely nothing about herbs, i suppose the second half of the book is fine for an overview, but every other book in my collection about the subject is superior. that section at least mentions flavor, nutrition and uses but not consistently, which further illustrates how rushed and shallow the writing is, despite how beautifully laid out it is. Well, laid out but bare. there is so much empty space on most pages, you could at least write a better book inside of this book. I should probably add a star for the graphic design, but i am in a bad mood. I was really looking forward to learning something, or at least having a useful reference.
