~1.5yr Review | Full set, still looks and works as if new. SUMMARY- Took a year but built the whole set (10 – 50)- Nothing beats the versatility of a good set of dumbbells- Stinky and oily first few days (no big deal for me)- Look like new 1.5years later with nearly daily use- Follow gym etiquette and treat them right, they will last forever- Did not confirm their weightFULL REVIEWBACK STORYAs was the case everywhere when COVID hit, my MMA gym shut down.Previous to that closure, I had barbells and plates that I’d accumulated through the past couple of decades. But when the everything closed, I quickly found myself missing the variation and breadth of exercises that you get at the gym vs the barbell setup I had at home. Almost immediately, I ordered a cable machine but still felt like I was missing a bunch of exercises.4 months later, in July of 2020 I found these and ordered what I could — at that time only 10 & 20 pounders were available. That order was just shy of $95. Expensive but seemed like a somewhat fair trade given that I had cancelled my gym memberships, not knowing what was going to happen or for how long places would remain closed. They trickled in as they could over the next month.I would check the site daily to see if any more had become available for sale. Most of the time they would come with a warning, stating that there were none in stock but would be shortly and charges would appear on CC until they were shipped. I’d pick up a pair as I saw them available.April of 2021 (almost a year after I purchased my first pair), I bought the elusive 50 and 35 pound pairs. The last two I needed to complete the 10 – 50 pound set (incremental by 5lbs).THE DUMBBELLSHIIT, being able to switch weights instantly to finish a set out to complete failure, flies and reverse flies, single arm lifts for core strength, etc. Nothing beats the versatility of a good dumbbell set.Yes, some were oily and had a rubbery smell when they first arrived. I would cut the box top, remove from the plastic bag and let air outside for a couple of days. I’d then wipe down with a cloth and place on dumbbell rack. These two things were never really an issue for me.After a year and a half of almost daily use, they look and feel as they did when I first got them. Please note, that I follow gym etiquette. I don’t let them slam against the floor (drop), I don’t bang them against each other, I re-rack when done, etc. The highest they ever dropped is from bench after doing chest press (will drop lower my arms by my side and l and these roll off — as anyone would at any gym). They do fall on mats, or carpet. They’ve never dropped on concrete, brick, rock, or similar.Take care of them, and THEY WILL LAST you forever.WEIGHTThere are a few reviews that tested the weight to verify how close they were to their stated weights. I haven’t checked mine. Honestly, up until I started to write this review I hadn’t even thought about it. I’m no professional body builder. I need resistance and these seem to be doing a very good job at it. Maybe if I get a calibrated scale in the future I’ll weigh ’em and update this review (but doubtful).
Very little rubber odor. I’ve had a pair of these 30 lb dumbbells for 10 days now. They have much less rubber/petroleum smell than other coated dumbbells set that I have from the Cap Barbell company. Slight but noticeable smell when first delivered, I wiped them down several times over a couple of days with sanitizing wipes to remove any oil film on the rubber coating or the chrome handles. The odor dissipated after about 5 days. Your mileage may vary and may need more wiping with alcohol wipes to help reduce the odors. My one complaint, if any, is a small one: on the side of the dumbbell it is labeled ’30 lb’ whereas the rest of my dumbbell set of a different brand just had the weight without ‘lb’ in raised lettering.
Works just as expected. A bit of whiff of rubber persisted for a month but after that this db has been perfect. I just make sure to wipe it off once a week for sweat.
Great Dumbbells. Dumbbells feel great and are incased in rubber. After owning these for a month here is what I can tell you. These dumbbells are an amazing option for anyone looking to start working out / advance into their next workout journey.Personally, I’ve enjoyed using them and match them with a good workout plan and diet you’ll be great.I highly recommend this to everyone.
I am The Rock/Pebble Ripped. Got this because my 30s were getting easier. I like the material and handles well if thrown down like an alpha jackhammer male. Or if I try to show off for my child and realize I’m not actually strong enough to curl these yet and toss them. Sturdy. Look good unlike my body. But just staring at them I feel muscular. If you can lift or use them I’d say buy this it’s a solid purchase.
Worth the money. I bought these for my home gym area when they were on sale. I am always skeptical about whether or not the weight is actually correct because sometimes they can be off, but this was spot on. Great addition to my home gym needs.
Good weights, but the grease is real. I’ll preface this by saying that when I hit the purchase button on these barbells, I made a snide remark to my wife about these people leaving reviews about the barbells being ”too greasy” have obviously never shopped at a five and dime before. We had a good laugh about how clueless people could be.Two days later, the barbells arrived. I was excited to start my new strength training routine! These barbells seemed great, a little oily as described, but super sturdy for a good price. A little grease was not a big deal. Right? We have a small house and my makeshift “gym” is in the cramped foyer of our 1913 duplex. I roll out my little yoga mat and do my reps, and feel great about getting shredded! These barbells rule!A few hours later my wife returns home from a long day at work. She enters through our front door, takes off her shoes, sets them down, and rushes to greet our overly- excited 8 year old.Within taking two steps into the foyer, she slips (Home Alone ice-slip-style) on the greasy residue left on our hardwood floors from my workout earlier that day. Her hip, her butt, her elbow, and wrist all in excruciating pain! For days! Luckily nothing was broken but my muscles are looking pretty good.All-in-all, a good purchase. Maybe give them a good cleaning before use and especially before setting them down in a high traffic area.Would have given this 5 stars if it wasn’t for the grease.
10x better than store. I was looking at some weights at D’ks sporting goods store. All the metal weights I saw at the time were all banged up and damaged by being just dropped on each other by customers or employees cleaning up I guess. I have no idea, but I was not going to pay for something in my opinion damaged. I was looking at the all metal weights because they were the cheapest. Checked on Amazon and saw that their metal/rubber weights were less than the cheap metal weights at D’ks.Weights look brand spanking new with no damage whatsoever. Feel great in hand. Very happy with purchase.I was worried about shipping. I was happy to see they did a fenaomnal job at packaging. Was shipped with bubble-wrap, foam to protect top, bottom and sides and placed in two boxes! Wow!

You only need 1 to get started. I bought one. Now i’ve got another on the way, but buying just one for $20 got me started. now i’m doing arm and leg days at home. curls, butter-flys, breast lifts, whatever… you can easily afford 1 and switch arms like i’ve been doing for awhile… now i’ve got some actual arm strength to do reps of 20×3 x3 different arm workouts for about 20 minutes every day or two, and i’m doing squats and lunges on my off days all in my video game office room… its like i could goto the gym to show off, but i can just get in shape right here.
Perfect for Explosive Lists in Many Environments. If an individual asked me about what types of Dumbbells were preferable for home use, I would say rubber ones as they can take a lot of abuse without chipping. Hence why I’m rating this item with 5 stars!
wash it when it arrives. they will have a chemical odor upon removing it from its packaging. there is also a greasy residue. wash the dumbells thoroughly with some soapy water and the residue will come off. the chemical smell eventually loses its intensity with time (i got these 2 weeks ago and they barely smell anymore). otherwise these are some good quality dumbells
Sturdy and Reliable. I recently bought this Dumbbell and I have to say, it’s a great addition to my home gym. The weight feels solid and well-made, perfect for my workouts. The rubber coating provides protection for floors from any damage. The only downside was that when I first opened the package, there was a pretty strong rubber smell and the dumbbell felt a bit greasy. It was a bit off-putting, but I just gave it a quick wash with some dish soap and the smell and grease disappeared completely. It was a bit annoying, but nothing that couldn’t be fixed easily.Despite the initial smell and greasiness, I am still happy with my purchase. It’s a great weight for my workouts and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable dumbbell. Just be prepared to give it a quick wash before using it.
Good product. Exactly as described. Has a VERY strong rubber smell which I don’t like, but it’s gotten better as I’ve had it more
Pumping Chrome. I’ve been lifting weights for more than 10 years & have used many, many types of hand weights. These weights are as good as & better than most I’ve used. They are well made with properly chromed, knurled handles & rugged rubber ends. The handle circumference is comfortable. The price is really pretty good too!
Wonderful dumbell pairs at great price. Couldn’t find such good price at local stores or even for used on marketplace. Amazon Basics had the lowest price. Quality is great. Better quality chrome and rubber on these than the ones I checked out at local gym product shops.
Super nice and a great price. These are really excellent weights. More than anything I can say that the grip is perfect for me. I didn’t realize that I was struggling a little with my old weights because the grip was narrow and slippery so my hand cramped up while using my old weights and made me do fewer reps. I don’t get that with these. Even though the new weights are heavier than my old set I feel a lot more comfortable using them and I get more reps in because of the grip comfort. It’s a good deal for a nice set. I’ll probably buy a 20 lb set in the near future.
It’s a dumbbell. Honestly not a whole lot to say about this. It’s a dumbbell and you can use it for exercise. It’s easy to grip and hold. I didn’t ever feel like I’m going to lose my grip while exercising. So if you need a weight, get this one. Price is good too.
It’s a dumbell. They are high quality, not much negative to say about a standard rubber dumbbell. I ordered a “damaged” one at a hefty discount and it’s perfect. They are greasy, the swelled palm grip location will take some getting used to if you use 1″ iron grip dumbbells, and they do smell like a tire shop so probably best to keep them not in the house. I rubbed mine down with rubbing alcohol and then washed with soap and water to get the silicone slime off.
Pretty Good. They smell funky, other than that they’re pretty solid. I’ve only owned them for a month but they’re holding up good so far.
Strong chemical smell. Its great, but has a strong chemical smell when you open the box and lasts for a bit.
Great quality at a great price. These dumbbells are very comfortable in the hands and solid. They seem well made, and they’re as nice or nicer than the expensive brands I tried out at the sporting goods store.
Nice. Good quality weights, bought this pair for my nephew as one of his Christmas gifts. They aren’t huge so they should be able to easily store and there is a textured surface on the metal bars for grip. Standard color and I’m sure It delivers a effective workout when used correctly and long enough.
Perfect. Like this set. Bought the 10lb set. Comfortable on my smaller hands, weight is distributed well and looks good in my rack. 🙂 Does have a slight smell, but it’s rubber so to be expected. When I’m ready I’ll buy this set in 12 lbs.
After searching, Best prices. These dumbbells are awesome. Yes they do have a smell, but it goes away rather quickly. That just tells me that they’ve been wrapped in plastic, which probably helps with not rusting before delivery. Had these over a year now and no rust at all on the handles. True to weight when putting them on a scale. And Amazon had the best prices that I could find. Now I’m just waiting for the 65 pound ones to come down on price a little bit. Would definitely recommend these to others. And the grip is a nice size and not rough that creates calluses. they also fit great on my weight rack.
