  1. Great idea, good price, but some flaws when using it with google home. These smart plugs are very convenient and are quite seamlessly integrated with google smart home. You can control via the home app or by voice, and you almost never have to use the KASA app after you do the initial install. We’ve used them for turning on/off lights on a daily schedule. Things with little draw are perfect for use on these rated plugs. I believe they can do 10amp?If you’re controlling something like LED bulbs or a watering system, or a fan, then you’re good! I wouldn’t recommend running a heater, or a heavier duty pump on such a device. Here’s my main grip:I installed my stick vacuum’s hanging dock/charging station with one of these smart plugs attached so i could manage when it starts a charge cycle. Let me explain: dyson vacuums have a power boost setting that discharges the battery very quickly and heats up the motor/battery assembly while using this setting. It’s not recommended that you put the vacuum on charge directly after using is on boost- it’s suggested that you wait 5-10 minutes for it to cool down before charging it. But if you’ve ever used a stick vac, you’ll know that they can’t stand on their own, nor should you leave them leaning against a wall. So the most reasonable place to put it is back on its charging dock- but then it starts charging automatically!Anyway, with a smart plug, i was anticipating having the dock be unpowered when i place the vacuum in its cradle, and then give a command “google, turn the docking station on in 10 minutes”. This way i can set the vacuum down, have it plugged into the charging station, and then allow it to cool down until the 10 minutes are up, and then start charging.Google wont allow a these plugs to be turned on using a countdown timer. I don’t know why they allow scehdules to control the on/off but not a timer? I’m also not sure if this is an issue with only this type or brand of plug. But it greatly limits my usability of it.I’m going to continue using them, but i think the software designer should work on a fix for this!

  2. Rough edges with Homekit integration, good energy monitoring. Came back to Kasa platform as i wanted to monitor energy usage on key appliances. Had migrated to smartthings smart plugs for a couple years but energy tracking on that platform just never evolved to something easy without getting into custom apps, which have also been a mess with platform migration etc. Both smartthings and Kasa plugs work well for basic remote control, scheduling, and automation needs. In fact, Kasa integrates into Smartthings so you can leave the kasa app completely unattended after initial setup if that’s preferable. The key difference is in the connecting technology; wifi vs. zigbee/zwave. The latter has less interference and creates a mesh network for all other zigbee/zwave devices. The reason I came back to these is to leave them plugged into key appliances like refrigerators and dehumidifiers so i can track energy use over time. Kasa doesn’t provide detailed reporting but the app shows current usage, last 7 days, and last 30 days which is good enough for my intended use to see longer term trends. These don’t work great if you’re seeking to record energy usage for multiple devices, a kill a watt is a better tool for that. This is for dedicated outlet and device usage. The default smartthings energy reporting is just a running log of interval power usage with no real practical way to get similar summary as Kasa provides.Installation is super simple via kasa app but homekit integration is a little rough. The app set up asks to include homekit setup but the home kit code is printed on the plug in a light grey font that the app has a hard time reading, nevermind that once plugged in it’s at an awkward angle to human eye read. I resorted to writing down the homekit code on a piece of paper. Once it’s set up in home kit via kasa app, it again asks you to add to Kasa app and instead of carrying over the homekit name it starts with the generic plug name again. Awkward but the job gets done.I have an older plug running for 6 years now so we’ll see if these have similar longevity.

  3. Super Easy Setup. The Kasa Smart Plug Mini is a small, affordable, and easy-to-use smart plug that can be used to control any appliance or device that plugs into a standard outlet. It works with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and IFTTT, so you can control it with your voice or create custom automations. The Kasa Smart Plug Mini is very easy to set up. Just plug it in, download the Kasa app, and follow the instructions. The app is well-designed and easy to use. You can create schedules, timers, and automations for your plug. You can also see how much energy your plug is using. The Kasa Smart Plug Mini is a great way to add smart home features to your home without breaking the bank. It’s perfect for controlling lamps, coffee makers, fans, and other small appliances. It’s also a great way to save energy. Here are some of the pros and cons of the Kasa Smart Plug Mini:Pros:AffordableEasy to set upWorks with Alexa, Google Assistant, and IFTTTEnergy monitoringCompact designCons:Not HomeKit compatibleNo energy monitoring in the Kasa app (requires a separate app)Overall, the Kasa Smart Plug Mini is a great option for anyone looking for a small, affordable, and easy-to-use smart plug. 4. Outstanding. I bought these to replace four Amazon smart plugs at a fraction of the cost. While the Amazon plugs were a cinch to connect to Alexa, I couldn’t get them to work consistently, either separately or as a group, even though I was using an Amazon Echo device. I tried everything, and finally decided to hang the expense and go with these. BINGO!!! Not only were they far less expensive, they were just as easy to set up (with the Kasa app) as the others, and the Kasa app hooked up with the Alexa app with ease. I put one on a timer through the Kasa app and put all four plugs into a group with the Alexa app, and everything works consistently.

  5. Cannot get these to setup (updating to 5 stars). *Update*Im updating my review from 1 to 5 stars. The reason I had issues setting up initially was because my wifi password is usually saved in keychain on my devices and I never have to input it manually. Because of this I did not remember my password in full and was inputting the wrong wifi password when prompted by the app. Once I figured this out everything was smooth sailing and the plugs are all setup and working just fine.Just received these and cannot setup 3 of the 4 plugs. The only semi-successesful attempt was setting up the first plug except it was a frustrating process. Once I got to the step where I had log unto my home wifi, app kept asking over and over to login to wifi even though I was already logged in.I made multiple attempts to repeatedly logon to my wifi network and the app never detected the fact that I was connected. I got fed up, closed the app, re-opened and only then plug showed up in the device list on the kasa app. I thought the process would be the same for the other 3 plugs but I have been stuck in a contineous loop for almost an hour trying to set the rest up and running into the same issue except these won’t setup at all. I have closed the app out multiple times, tried hard resetting the plugs with the power button and nothing works. I had high hopes for these, they looked decently built but the setup process has been a nightmare at least in my case.
