Make crayons look new again. I really had to put some thought into buying this CrayonPro sharpener. After all, crayons aren’t all that expensive. I could buy a manual sharpener for a lot less. In fact, I did buy a manual crayon sharpener once, but results were less than satisfactory. It’s such a waste to dispose of all those blunt tip crayons. I could melt them down into wonderful creations, but no one really uses those for coloring. I could send them off the be recycled, but I don’t want that extra cost. Why not just sharpen them?My first impression of this crayon sharpener? Wow. The tips look just like they just came out of the box. I don’t have to peel the paper. The sharpener takes care of that. I did have a few break off in the sharpener, in which case it was a pain to fix; but now that I have a tub full of sharpened crayons, I couldn’t be happier.Just want to warn you that emptying the waste container can be a messy endeavor. Be sure to do the whole process over a trash can. I had crayon shavings falling all over my desk.My kids love their newly sharpened crayons. Now, they can draw within the lines and not get any points off for messiness from their teachers.PROS:+ make those crayon tips look new again+ quick and easy, no need to peel off paper+ suction on bottom keeps sharpener from sliding around+ cleaning brush and replacement blade includedCONS:- crayons sometimes break in the sharpener and it’s a pain to fix- emptying the shavings is a messy procedure_____________________________UPDATE: I have found that the sharpener overheats when I sharpen lots of crayons. It’s temporary but inconvenient. Also, I’ve learned a steady hand is key to keeping breakage to a minimum. When they crayons do break, I just insert the other half in and continue sharpening. It takes a little more pressure, but there’s no need to stop and dislodge the broken piece from the sharpener.
Greatest Sharpener for Crayons. I was a bit skeptical to purchase this item, seeing as it did not have the greatest reviews; but I was amazed with how well it worked! I sharpened near 1000 crayons and had little, to no trouble at all. Brought life back the box of worn down crayons that no one wanted to use!I love the way it leaves the crayons just as sharp as a newly purchased crayon. And even better, you don’t have to peel back the paper wrappers of the crayons to sharpen them, the sharpener trims the paper as it sharpens the crayon. It even leaves a small ridge around the base of the newly sharpened crayon, just like a brand new crayon would look like. There was the occasional jam, but this would occur if the crayon was broken near the top and so when I would remove the crayon the tip would stay in the sharpener. This was easily resolved though, by removing the bin that holds the crayon shavings and then removing the actual sharpener from the unit and simply dislodging the crayon piece, then reinstalling the sharpener to the unit. This process is a bit difficult to imagine if you have not already seen the sharpener, but I assure it is very simple to do and takes about 15-20 seconds for the whole process.Along with the sharpener built into the unit, the CrayonPro came with a replacement sharpener (the internal sharpener blade that attaches to the unit) that you can switch out if preinstalled sharpener dulls over time or breaks. Along with that, the CrayonPro also came with a cleaning tool to clean the sharpener. This was a wonderful investment and exceeded my expectations!
Works great if you know what you are doing. This thing works great; however, if you are not careful you can gum up the works. I took me about 10 mins to sharpen ~200 crayons. Couple tips:1. FREEZE the crayons first. I read this in another review and it really helps.2. If a crayon breaks inside you need to clean the out blade assembly. This is really easy to do. There is an included handy tool that makes this easy.3.The crayons sharpen very easily. If you’re shoving the crayons in hard and nothing is happening this means something is jammed in there.4. I would recommend that an adult sharpens the crayons. Not because of safety. I just saw that it was hard for my toddler and preschooler to get the crayons inserted straight. It is easy to break-off crayons if you are not putting them in correctly. If you have kids that color a lot this is a must have. It is so much better than manually sharpening. We are actually getting a lot more out of the crayons as well.
You need to have patience. After reading several negative reviews I was really hesitant to buy this item. I am so glad that I did. I love being able to refresh my kids crayons. It took a bit of time to figure out how to lock the blade back into place. The instructions could be a bit better on that. There were a lot of reviews stating that once they took the blade out it kept falling out. That’s because it wasn’t secured in properly. Once my husband and I figured out how to lock it in there was no issues with taking it staying in place. Just like with any sharpener, the end of the crayon sometimes breaks off. That can be a bit annoying because you have to pop the blade out and dig out the broken piece of crayon. It works great for me. I have only used Crayola brand crayons and I don’t freeze them as others have mentioned. My kids tried to use it and that typically resulted in a broken crayon because they don’t hold the crayon tight enough or pull it out as soon as it’s sharp. It can take a bit of patience to get the hang of it but I think it’s worth it.

Kindergarten Teacher Must Have. I can’t believe I waited so long to purchase one of these!! It is so amazing! As a kindergarten teacher, you must have this. I did not have faith it would last long. I was sure it would break, but it’s going strong. Note that my students are not allowed to touch it!! I did have a crayon break inside. I followed the directions to remove it, and it was so easy! I wish regular pencil sharpeners were so easy to fix. I love that it came with extra blades and a wand to clean out the crumbs. Note that after sharpening, the quality of the crayon is a little compromised. I use exclusively Crayola crayons. Once sharpened, they tend to flake as you color. They aren’t very strong. But I prefer having a point to be able to color more precisely as I demonstrate for my class how to color something. I’d rather have the flaking than try to use a crayon in the shape of a dome. Plus, I like the idea of not replacing crayons unless necessary. I feel like we waste so many crayons!
Don’t impulse-buy this. I work in children’s ministry at a church and my coworker and I got very excited when we discovered this product. The videos of this machine sharpening a crayon back to its original look–ridge and all–were so enticing. $50 seemed like a lot for a crayon-specific sharpener, but it seemed worth it if it would get us more use out of our crayons before we had to go buy more. Finally, we bought it.Here’s the thing about those videos where the sharpener sharpens a crayon perfectly: that happens like once for every 20ish crayons. You can freeze the crayons or not; the blades simply will not like some crayons over others. The most you’ll be able to sharpen without having to stop and clean out the blade cartridge of broken crayon tips is maybe 5 crayons. And you will DEFINITELY want to lay some newspaper or something down on whatever surface you’re sharpening on, because the crayon shavings GET. EVERYWHERE. And since they’re wax, the moment that surface heats up–even by way of your skin coming into contact with it–the wax shavings will adhere to the surface. If you want a colorful, wax-blotted tabletop, go rogue and don’t cover your surface. If not, you’ll be well-served to lay some newspaper–thus rendering the suction cups on the bottom of the machine basically useless.I do realize that this machine is probably the best we can hope for in a crayon sharpener. Since crayons are waxy, they’re inevitably going to gum up blades as you sharpen. But $50 can be a lot of money for something that causes more frustration than satisfaction. We will get what use we can out of the machine now that we have it, but I’m not sure we would have bought it knowing how infrequently the sharpening process would be as satisfying as it was in that initial video demonstration. Now, all is not lost: If you’ve got time on your hands (and, busyness aside, sometimes you do), you can indeed effectively sharpen your crayons with this machine and get more use out of them. But—Break up with the mental image of perfect, factory-sent crayon tips. You’ll get them once in a while, but they’ll be the exception, not the rule. More often, you’ll get crayons that are more effective than they were as nubs–and if you work with kids, that’s really all you need.-READ THE INSTRUCTIONS on how to secure and change the blade cartridge. You will have to do it often, and if you don’t secure it, it can completely shear off from the inside and render the machine 100% useless (this may or may not have happened the first time I used it, causing us to have to order a replacement. That’s on me, but learn from my mistakes!).-You will spend about three times the amount of time cleaning the inside of it out that you spend actually sharpening, and the whole process will take longer than you expect it to.-Freeze the crayons. Or don’t. I’ve tried both, and either way you just spend a buttload of time cleaning the machine out.Whatever you do…make a truly informed decision before buying! Don’t get sucked in by the satisfying sharpening videos.Godspeed.
Works great. I love having this in my classroom. I have the kids bring their crayons to me to be sharpened just to be on the safe side. I will say that it’s very easy to break a tip off into the sharpener and then you have to take the sharpener piece out to get the crayon piece out. That’s kind of a pain but to be expected. You just have to be careful when you’re sharpening to prevent breaking the tip off. It’s only happened a couple times so far, but it’s honestly just on me for not being more careful those times it happened. I highly recommend one of these for sure. It’s a game changer. I can’t stand dull crayons when I color so I love being able to sharpen my students’ crayons.

Love having it in my Kinder Class. 4 stars ONLY BECAUSE ITS SO EXPENSIVE… but really worth it… My kindergarten students love having this sharpener, especially since we have a community crayon bin. It sharpens quick and it has not gotten jammed.

Piece that holds blade missing. The blade is loose. According to instructions on the bottom of sharpener it should be secured with a clip. I could not use it last year at all.
Teacher requested item. I ordered this as a teacher donation request. She highly recommended this for her classroom.

Works great. It was a gift for someone and they love it.
Works well. I did not buy this for myself. My son’s girlfriend is a kindergarten teacher and her littles love it!
Shockingly good. I’m probably premature on this review, but for home use, this thing is surprisingly good. It sharpens crayons very quickly and makes very nice tips. No need to remove paper. The bin is generous. The suction cups to hold it down work well. My only complaints are the hole is a bit tight/tough to get into, and the price is a bit steep. But I guess you get what you pay for, because it sharpens mildly-neglected crayons all the way to “just broke in half” crayons. Very cool!
Keep your crayons new. My daughter is a kindergarten teacher and loves this! And she says her kids really like it!
Expensive but worth it if you have lots of crayons. I have a kid who colors a lot and has hundreds of crayons and we like sharp points on them. I’ve had it for a couple of months. It works great. You can sharpen with or without the paper on the crayons. It does require regular cleaning and maintenance. I’ll go through and sharpen big batches of crayons and I may have to clean it out 2-3 times in one session but once you get the hang of that it’s quick and easy and it works like a charm again. They provide a brush for cleaning the blades and they provide a replacement blade for the future. It is expensive and I haven’t done cost analysis of sharpening with this vs just buying new crayons but I wouldn’t throw out good crayons just because they are dull. This is way way better then built in sharpeners or other manual crayon sharpeners I’ve tried. This gets a perfectly new sharp tip that sharper then when they come out of the box and it takes seconds do it. The price is the only downside so you’ll have to decide how much of a factor it is but it works great.
Frustrating Experience with Crayon Sharpener. Title: Frustrating Experience with Crayon SharpenerAs a kindergarten teacher, I’m always on the lookout for tools and gadgets that can enhance our classroom experience. When I purchased the crayon sharpener, I was filled with excitement, and my students were equally thrilled at the prospect of perfectly sharp crayons for our artistic endeavors. However, our initial enthusiasm quickly turned to disappointment as we encountered persistent issues with the sharpener. The main problem we faced was frequent jamming. It seemed like every time we attempted to sharpen a crayon, the sharpener would jam, causing frustration among the students and myself. The interruptions to our creative activities were not only inconvenient but also disruptive to the flow of our lessons.Additionally, the process of unjamming the sharpener proved to be time-consuming and required constant adult supervision, diverting attention away from teaching and learning. The excitement that initially surrounded the crayon sharpener has now turned into a sense of letdown for both me and my students.I understand that no product is perfect, but a crayon sharpener should be a straightforward tool that simplifies our tasks rather than complicating them. I would appreciate improvements to the design or functionality of the sharpener to ensure a smoother and more reliable experience in the future. In conclusion, while the idea of a crayon sharpener in the classroom is fantastic, the current model’s consistent jamming has left us feeling disappointed. I hope that future versions of this product address these issues so that it can truly become a valuable tool for teachers and students alike.

Awesome…Super Addicting until the crayon snaps off inside. Totally love this sharpener. Easy to addicted to just sharpening and repurposing old crayons. The device has a lot of power and that’s where I get into trouble. If the crayon slips in my hand, while it’s being sharpened, there’s a good chance the tip is going to break off inside. When that happens, I can sometimes fix by just forcing that part in further to be sharpened to nothing. But, most of the time I have to use the tool to try to dig it out. That is messy and annoying. Sometimes I can correct without having to take the internal sharpener out of the mechanism. Sometimes I have to take it all the way out and that’s when I get annoyed.Great tool, but you have to be good to use it well without it snapping the crayon tip off. Lots of torque so hold your crayon tight. Try not to cuss at it too much as I am sure it has feelings.

Junk. I gave this to my Granddaughter she is a new School teacher. Didn’t work well and then broke. She asked me if I can return it. I thought it would have been a nice gift. What a disappointment.
Sharpens quick. You gotta peel the paper off on crayons to sharpen it smoother. It looks like a new crayon after its done. Of course this is an electric crayon sharpener only for an American outlet. The sharpener comes with a spare razor insert which is lovely. It sharpens quick too with light pressure.

X Acto review. Awful, sounded extremely loud when I started using it from the beginning. Only barely sharpened 4 crayons then overheated & quit! Tried to remove cartridge & it would not move around for me to remove the cartridge. It would have broken the turning part in it had I forced it to turn. Tried all troubleshooting recommendations like cleaning it for debris & it’s obviously a defective item. All I wanted to do was exchange for another one but was directed to Elmer’s & they were not available.
