  1. OUTSTANDING quality and value. I am thoroughly pleased with Blue Buffalo dog food (specifically, the chicken & brown rice recipe for large breed, and large breed senior dogs).I have a 72 pound Black Labrador Retriever (very small for this breed, but still “large”) – He is 8 years old, and EVERYONE thinks he’s under 4 years of age.. . .. He runs around like a puppy. . .. Full of puppy-like energy and has has the nicest sheen on his coat; he actually looks purple when the sun shines on his fur. All of these great things have happened since switching him from other “premium” dog food brands. At roughly $50.00 a bag, one might be tempted to go with a less expensive brand, but here’s my particular take on this – My dog, again at 72 pounds, only goes through 5 bags a year (that’s only $250.00 a YEAR!) . . . . Here’s why:The conversion rate of this this food is amazing! With cheaper foods (which contain fillers and binders), a lot of stool is produced. On Blue Buffalo, I’ve noticed that my dog’s stools are MUCH smaller (better conversion in the digestive tract), and his portions are super small, since his body is actually USING more of the food, not just passing it through. The stool isn’t mushy and large. (A lot can be judged about overall health with monitoring your canine’s poop)Bottom line: At $50.00 a bag, I’m saving A LOT over the course of my best friend’s life, while giving him what I feel is the best food out there. Portions are so small, that I actually feel guilty when I give him so little at meal time (that’s from being conditioned to seeing larger portions when feeding a lesser quality food). His body and mind are years younger than what the calendar shows. Money saved, since I’m not buying a “cheap” $25.00 bag of dog food every month.

  3. Premium Dog Food at a Good Price and Conveniently Delivered. I have been feeding Blue Buffalo Dog Food to my dogs for many years now. They enjoy the taste and I feel good about the quality of the food I’m giving them. Years ago I would have to go to or order online from big chain pet stores like Petsmart, but Blue Buffalo has expanded their availability to other big chain stores like Sam’s Club and Target. While this has definitely been more convenient for me when in a pinch to get the food quickly, or cost-saving for me when the stores are running a sale on the products, it is not always easy or even possible to get the different formulas of Blue Buffalo at these stores. I am happy I was able to find the large breed senior formula on Amazon. I have a large breed dog that is older and has really bad joints and this food has added ingredients to help with joint support. I set this up on a subscribe and save plan for extra savings. Even without the extra savings, the price on Amazon is comparable to the big chain stores and you can’t beat the convenience of fast and free delivery to your door.

  6. Doggo loves it — but be mindful of measurements when following feeding guidelines. I switched to Blue Buffalo from IAMS after doing an ingredient comparison and needing something moderately priced (Acana is great but so expensive!). My going-on-11 years old 80 lb dog loves this (he loves anything, really) and I usually mix this in with some bone broth and oftentimes chicken and pumpkin. I split his feeding into two, approximate 250 in the a.m. and another 250 in the p.m. For a short time the amount was increased to 275 per meal. After a few weeks of wondering why Drake had late-afternoon soft-to-runny stool, and playing with snacks and food to find out the culprit — I realized it was the amount of food I was giving him. Mind you, the measurements I gave above is still below what is recommended for his weight. I took away the meat and pumpkin and fed him try and realized — anything more than 250 of the dry food gives him the runny poos. I’m happy I found this out and that that is the only reason — I took him to the vet for a whole bunch of tests and there was nothing wrong with him. There was something wrong with me giving him too much food! Hope this helps someone.

  8. Does not like the “LifeSource Bits”. My 9 year old 75lb sensitive stomach mut (vet thinks Pit/Shepard/Retriever) has been eating this for about a year now. He was on some cheap purina lamb flavor kibble prior. After he had a few episodes of diarrhea we made the switch (gradually 7-10 day transition purina- chicken &rice (C&R) -BB). At first it didn’t help and brought him back to diarrhea. After getting medicine from the vet, we tried again successfully. About 2-3 months he had bad gas.One time I got him BB’s Sr. kibble (not lrg breed) and he would not eat it. 2 days later I had gotten lrg breed Sr (LBS) kibble. A week later diarrhea accident middle of the night and again 5 and 10 days later. Tried transitioning back to LBS from C&R twice unsuccessfully. A couple days later had blood in poop. After vet visit, meds expense vet science kibble and cans and transitioned back successfully.Within this last year he has had about 3-4 diarrhea episodes and vet visits. None of the vets told me to stop feeding him BB.He has been for the most part good for the last 6 months. There have been times where he would not eat the kibble. So i would mix in can food and transistion him back.He does not like the small brown “Lifesource bits.” He will eat around them, drop them and the other kibble on the floor (he picks up the normal kibble sometimes). After 3-5 days of topping off the kibble I have either thrown away a small handful of kibble and bits or I try to just take the bits out and refill the bowl from the bag.Online I have seen it is a common for other dogs to eat around the bits too. For the food to be so expensive to have so much non edible bits really sucks. For this reason, every now and then, I search online for a better option (different brand). Why can’t they make one without the bits or do they?Does anybody know of a similar or better kibble (preferably not as expensive) that has the same benefits and nutrients (e.g., joint supplements and tailored to LBS) but without the little bits?Side note: my dog has a torn ACL. It doesn’t seem to be hurting and we have tried medicine buy some of them have also been a factor for the diarrhea and possible blood. I give him joint supplements and this food because the joint supplements. He doesn’t put much pressure on his back left torn ACL leg, walks and runs relatively fine but at times will not put any pressure on leg and limps/hobbles.

  9. Blue Buffalo large breed senior dog food. I have not had a bad experience while using blue buffalo dog food with either of my senior dogs.

  10. This is what’s important. Henry is a 14 year – old golden doodle who has eaten this food all his life and is thriving. What else do you need to know?

  11. Quality lately. I’m not sure what it is about these bags lately. I’ve been subscribing for 5+ years to this brand from Amazon. This year, the quality is not what it used to be. I had one bag that made my dog’s breath really bad! I was about to take her to the vet!New bag came in and it cleared up within a day. Was the bag rancid??Didn’t have a problem again all month until the next bag came. Back to insanely stinky breath again with this bag.Thinking of switching to Chewy.

  12. Senior shepherd approved. We adopted a 7 yo GSD and within a month or two, he started limping. I’d rather feed good food and supplement as needed than go straight for medication and gram for gram, this food had the most glucosamine, chondroitin, MSM and Omegas than anything in its (admittedly rather elevated) price range. We switched Jake to this and not only was he eating better, coat looked better with less shedding, but quite a bit less limping. Still ended up on Carprofen 75mg 2x/day but we can walk 1.5 miles a day without any problem most days and he jumps up into my bed without blinking, so I’d say worth it.

  18. my 13-yr lab is happy. After tried so many brands, finally I settled with this brand, my 13-yr yellow lab is now with a sensitive stomach, and this dry food satisfies him!

  19. Healthier. We switched over to Blue Buffalo approximately six or seven years back. Our Dogs are medium and large breed which seem healthier than our previous dogs.I do believe Blue Buffalo is over priced for dry kibble.
