  1. FIRST TIME DEEP FRYING-LESSONS LEARNED (UPDATED). After WEEKS of reviewing deep fryers, there are numerous reasons I ordered the T-fal FR8000 from Amazon on Saturday night. It arrived, with NO damage, on Wednesday. Thank you, AMAZON! I read ALL enclosed directions on Wednesday and put everything in the dishwasher except the heating element that same night. Thursday morning, I ensured everything was dry, put the unit back together and set up for my first time EVER using a deep fryer. Unit is not heavy and easy to move around. Since the deep fryer had small rubber feet on each corner, I decided to place the unit on my ceramic stove top in order to have use of the hood vent (from another reviewer). Safety is another reason I chose this model. I made sure that the cord reached the wall plug with room to spare and had the unit set up so that I had access to the reset button, if needed (another reviewer). The stainless steel colander was lined with paper towels for the fried chicken to rest. The 8×8 glass dish for the french fries was lined with paper towels-ready and waiting. I even had a place prepared for the hot see-through lid whenever I need to remove it from the unit. One of the main reasons I chose this unit: I have a small family and wanted the basket to be big enough for 3 meaty drumsticks and two meaty thighs because I did not want to have to cook a second batch of the same thing. After pouring the vegetable oil in half way between the min and max lines, I was ready! DH entered the kitchen and decided that he did not like my set up. Even after telling him that the instruction manual stated NO extension cords, he pulled out a power strip and plugged in the unit and then the wall informing me that a power strip is not an extension cord. (I researched this after dinner and it’s true!) Fine. No problem. I turned the deep fryer on and set the temp at 374. The red light came on. While it was heating up, I seasoned, egg washed and flour coated the five pieces of chicken and laid them flat in the basket. Perfect fit. Based on reviews, I made sure that there were no damp spots on the chicken after the flour coating. (I thought I heard the unit “beep”, but as I was not looking at it at the time, I’ll have to update the next time I deep fry.) The red light went off, I very slowly, lowered the basket of prepared chicken into the hot oil and placed the lid securely on the unit. Beautiful bubbling hot oil frying and everything was going along fine. Now, as I am watching the frying process, the unit is NOT holding that beautiful deep frying temperature. What is wrong??!!!! DH hears me talking out loud (from downstairs) and comes into the kitchen. I lift the almost done fried chicken out with the basket. (LOVE THAT BASKET!!!) The power strip had a surge protecter and the red light that was on is now OFF!!! My input is that the Operators Manual should also state Do Not Use Power Strips, for those who do not know. I plugged the unit into the wall, pushed the reset button on the deep fryer, waited for the red temperature light to go off and continued frying. Deep fried home-made french fries turned out great, also. Just make sure that your fries are cut at the same thickness for even doneness and coloring. All in all, the T-fal FR8000 has all that a deep fryer should have from safety features, large basket and temperature control. Easy, breezy clean-up, either by hand or dishwasher. Looking forward to “our” next deep fried adventure. UPDATE: Tonight I used my deep fryer for deep fried catfish filets. The filets were a little more than 1 inch at the thickest, so I deep fried them for 10 minutes at the recommended temp of 320 degrees. OMG!!! Easy Breezy from set up to clean up. See my pictures below.

  2. Professional quality at a consumer price. I was in search of a new deep fryer to replace the my previous one. I was looking for something that professionals would use but at a “consumer” price. I have to say as soon as I saw this product and read the reviews, I had to try it out for myself. I have to say that this is simply the best deep fryer that I truly have ever owned. If I can rate this a 10 star review I would. Positives,. 1. Quality. A. When I first opened the box and took the unit out, I can tell that it was made very well. The stainless steal, cover, basket, oil tray, etc…. was all made to last. 2. Oil tray. This one added feature has already saved me money in reusing my oil. In my previous fryer, I would simply discard the oil after using it for only one time. Not only does this feature save you money, but is washable. You simply flip the switch on the front to the appropriate setting and the oil drains out. The secret is inside the machine. There is a screen that catches all the food particles before it hits the tray. This way you are getting screened oil to use again. I only recommend using the oil 1 or 2 more times depending upon how much you are frying. This is feature has to be one of my favorites. Thank you T Fal 3. Does it fry? Have to say the size is perfect. Just enough to put a decent amount of food in, but not too big. Not only does it heat the oil rather quickly, but does a fantastic job at frying. There is even a small lip inside the fryer to rest the basket on to rest so the excess oil can drip. 4. What about cleaning. Everything outside the power cord and the heating unit is dishwasher safe. Makes clean up so easy. Simply use the oil filter, place the oil back into the container where you got it from. Once you stored the recycled oil, take all the parts of the machine put it in the dishwasher and you are all clean. No mess, no fuss, nada. Are there any negatives? 1. honestly this isnt a negative, but something to just point out. There is a glass on the cover where you can “see inside” the fryer as its frying. Please realize you are frying, which causes steam. The steam will “condense” on the glass so its hard to see inside. How to solve that. Very easy, lift up the cover, lol. Again this is not a negative at all to me, it does work. But please be realistic in whats going on in the machine. 2. Again not a negative, but it is big. So you need to have storage space. This is not an issue for the most, unless you have a very small kitchen.Would I buy this product again? Absolutely! Would I recommend it to my family and friends. Not only would I recommend it, but would buy it for them if I had the money lol. (plus deep fryers dont make great gifts lol). This is simply the best deep fryer out there that a professional kitchen would use. Everything from top to bottom is simply fantastic. It truly is a professional chef quality item.T-Fal, you now have a customer for life. I would like to thank you for making such a high end product that often companies don’t hear positives from its customers. So if anyone from this company is reading my review, Thank You! This is a well made product that was built to last. Job well done T-Fal, WELL DONE

  3. I have an older deep fryer and i hated the grease that splashed. Cooking and baking are a few of my passions. I read tons of reviews and narrowed my decision down to the T-fal 3.5 liter and the T-fal 1.8 liter. Some of the people who bought the 1.8 liter took it back and bought the 3.5 liter. I have an older deep fryer and i hated the grease that splashed. I hated leaving it on the counter after using it because i would want to use the oil a second time. I also didn’t like how the old fryer would take 20 minutes or longer between batches to reheat the oil. Since the T-Fal model was the only one with the ability to drain the oil, I knew this was the one i had to have. My daughter will be moving soon, so it will be just me at home. I finally decided on the 3.5 liter one. When the fryer arrived, i thought maybe i made a mistake because it looked pretty big. Well yesterday was my day to break it in. I saw some amazing egg rolls on the show Guilty pleasure and i was taking the egg rolls to a family day after wedding party. First the fryer oil temp indicator light would not come on. I moved the fryer near a different cord. I re-read the instructions and i used a toothpick and pushed in the reset button. ( I thought that was kind of weird to have to do when the fryer was brand new). I loved how the T-Fal kept the oil hot all the time. I did 5 batches of egg rolls in less than an hour. they were crispy and i put them in a pan on paper towel , standing up to travel. i unplugged the unit with the lid on and left. When i came home 4 hours later i turned the lever to drain and i was shocked the oil was completely yellow and clear and see through in the storage container. I was so happy. I wiped the unit down with a paper towel before i washed it. It was such a great, easy clean up. I was jumping up and down….(okay well i was excited) I was so happy i purchased the 3.5 liter because i would have had to make more batches with the 1.8 liter one. The only negative thing was the instruction times were no where close to the accurate time needed. I cooked the egg rolls 3 minutes. Unfortunately, the oil did not cover the top of the egg rolls. So i used tongs and flipped the egg rolls and cooked 2 minutes longer. So i used a timer on my microwave and cooked all 5 batches like that. I mixed brownies and put them in the oven while i was in the kitchen. Three of the guys at the party kept going back for another egg roll. They said the were trying to decide if they were any good! They were crispy and light and not greasy. I was very excited how the egg rolls turned out. I was very happy i purchased this fryer. Today i got up and used the culling french fry cutter and made my daughter fresh fries before she went to work. I also made mini wontons i bought at costco with chicken and cilantro . For dinner i cooked a Hillshire Polska Kielbasa in the deep fryer. I am going to slice it and take white cooked rice and fry it with bacon, soy sauce a splash of corn and one fried egg and add the Kielbasa. I do not write reviews, but this purchase made me so happy, I had to write one. I know i have only used this item 2 days. But i have owned a deep fryer and i know i love this one. The coil type thing that keeps the oil continually hot and the recycle oil feature that goes into a plastic storage container and is easy to repour in the fryer and the oil not splashing out and the easy clean up made this an exciting thing to add to my cooking equipment. I am actually researching the no oil or one tablespoon oil cookers for my next purchase because i am trying to cook healthier. But egg rolls are one of my favorite things and having the ability to make them for parties is a necessity for me. And the french fries were delicious, says my daughter.

  4. Pretty good product. I was pleasantly surprised at the recovery temp time when putting 3 to 4 pieces of cold chicken in the basket. The temp seems to recovery very quickly (within one minute) That is very important. Cleaning well… not that bad but does take some work. The filtering system works well. Just remember, of course, the debris at the bottom of the pan still needs to be cleaned but that is typical. My only complaint…is I wish it were one inch higher because some thick chicken pieces are not completely covered. Something I found a little odd is that the outer case of the unit is easily smudged just by touching it. Even before the first use. I use a paper towel and Windex to wipe them off. Smudges way to easily. But I can live with that. I like it but it is a lot of work to maintain. As far as a deep fryer goes I doubt there is anything easier. Two side notes – Do not fill over the max line. If you do it wont fit in the canister when filtering and will over flow on to the counter. I WISH – The fryer were at least one inch deeper. Some larger pieces of chicken were not completely covered by the oil.

  5. Excellent Fryer with Convenient Oil Draining Feature. I recently purchased the T-fal Ultimate EZ Clean Fryer, and I must say, it has proven to be a fantastic addition to my kitchen. One of its standout features is the ability to drain and clean the oil, which effectively reduces unpleasant odors and makes maintenance a breeze. The convenience of being able to drain the oil easily is a game-changer. No longer do I have to struggle with messy and time-consuming methods to get rid of the used oil. The integrated draining system allows me to effortlessly empty the fryer with minimal effort. This feature not only saves time but also significantly reduces the smell that usually lingers after frying. It’s a breath of fresh air, quite literally!Apart from its excellent oil-draining functionality, this fryer offers impressive performance. The heating element ensures quick and consistent heating, resulting in perfectly cooked, crispy dishes every time. The adjustable thermostat allows for precise temperature control, catering to a variety of cooking needs. The large cooking capacity is another highlight of this fryer. With its generous size, I can easily prepare meals for my entire family or entertain guests without any hassle. The basket is spacious and well-designed, providing ample room for frying multiple servings of food at once.Cleaning the T-fal Ultimate EZ Clean Fryer is a breeze, thanks to its removable parts that are dishwasher-safe. The non-stick interior coating prevents food from sticking, making it effortless to wipe off any residue.Although this fryer has countless merits, there are a couple of minor downsides to consider. Firstly, the exterior of the fryer tends to get hot during use, so it’s crucial to exercise caution and use oven mitts when handling it. Additionally, the fryer does take up a fair amount of counter space, so it may not be suitable for those with limited kitchen space. In conclusion, the T-fal Ultimate EZ Clean Fryer is a remarkable appliance that truly lives up to its name. The ability to drain and clean the oil is its standout feature, effectively minimizing odors and simplifying maintenance. With its impressive performance, ample cooking capacity, and easy cleaning process, it has become an invaluable asset in my kitchen. I highly recommend this fryer to anyone seeking a convenient and efficient way to achieve perfectly fried dishes.

  6. i got what i had hoped for. i was unsure if this was a good deal or just a gimmick. the fine metal screen really does remove all the small debri. this means less burnt food particles destroying the oil life and quality. the oil does use a thermostat on the drain so you can just flip it while hot, but i choose to cool it below 300 first just in case. the oil will drain fairly quick and is locked away. the components come right out and clean like you would if you cooked in a skillet (every time). yes it is a little more work, but if you are willing, it is worth it. the storage container has a small pour hole with plug and pours out quick and easy. if you need to clean the bowl, the lid does pop off. note to watch for that lid while pouring. i don’t think it will happen, but never know.the temperature seems to work well and i like the on off switch over my old digital.my 2 complaints are first, i wish it made a small sound the first time it reaches temp. this is understandably not likely to happen. second, when draining the oil, some stays in the metal pan causing, at a very small level, waist and extra to wipe up. these complaints are subtle.would recommend only if you are willing to keep it cleaned each time. if you wait till you have used it several times, you may clog the screen surface.

  7. Love this fryer. This fryer makes life easy. Changing the oil or cleaning up used to be such a hassle with my other fryers. This one is so simple, comparatively. Food taste great. I’ve made a variety of dishes, from onion rings to pork and chicken. All come out great.I actually timed this. The oil averages around 9 minutes to heat up to 356F. My other fryer took around 20 minutes. This makes a slight beep when the oil is heated up, but that might be the sound of the light turning off. You have to be near it to hear it so I set a 9 minute timer and I know when I go into the kitchen, the light will turn off within a few seconds. After the oil cools down, I simply flip a switch and the oil drains into the container. A simply wipe down of the crumbs and set the fryer aside.

  8. Nice Fryer. So this is our first time getting a dedicated fryer and I think we picked the right one. Only thing I didn’t realize when we bought this is how big it is and how much oil it consequently needs. I believe it needs between 8-12 cups oil to function properly. The good part is that it has an automatic filter and tray/box to hold the oil to be reused. I learned that depending on what you’re frying, the oil can be reused up to 10 times! The majority of the machine comes apart for easy clean up. As far as the operation and function of the fryer, it’s been great. It heats up quickly in just several minutes and the food comes out awesome. Nice even fry every time. With the temperature dial, it’s easy to get the exact temperature you need without having to test the oil. We’ve made everything from fried chicken to fried fish, french fries, among others. We won’t go back to regular deep frying in a pot ever again!

  9. Excellent Deep Fryer – Does Everything It Is Advertised To Do – I’m An Expert – Read Why. I’m a Senior. I use to own a Snack Food Manufacturing Company. I made Potato Chips and Fried Pork Rinds just for 2 items. As a teenager (so many years ago) I worked for several major Fast Food restaurants who made fries and learned the best way to make them. Therefore with this experience I know exactly how to make good fried foods. Fries, Fried Chicken, Shrimp Fritters, Fried Shrimp, Fried Okra, Fried Zucchini, etc. This Fryer works great. What I mean is that it holds the proper temperature during frying. When any food is to be fried and goes in either frozen or at room temperature.. it will immediately drop the temperature of the oil. This fryer has a fast recovery. That means it’s thermostat is excellent and as it sees a drop in temperature it immediately turns on the element(s) to keep the temperature where it should be.I also like the method T-Fal has invented to clean the fryer. It’s easy to drain and strain the oil and clean the frying bowl. The fry basket is large and I can get two potatoes worth of fries in one basket. For these reasons I highly recommend this fryer. Below is some info for a novice in the proper way to fry fries and other items.Fries:» Use a high quality potato slicer which you can purchase here on Amazon. Otherwise cut your peeled potatoes 1/4″ thick. Wash them in cold water and agitate the slices until you see the water turn milky. This is taking the potato starch out of them.» Dry the fries on a baking sheet lined with paper towels. I actually have a small fan that I use just like we did in the fast food restaurants in the old days. This reduces FOAMING and even loss of oil. When wet products are placed into the hot oil you’ll see foaming as oil and water don’t mix. In fact, as the water turns to steam it drops the temperature of the oil which means a longer frying time and makes the fryer work harder to keep the temperature up to the correct frying temperature. Note also as the water turns to steam tiny (micro) drops of oil cling to it and you’ll have a 1% or 2% drop of oil each time. And where does that oil go? Into the atmosphere and it will cling to your filter or wall or anything else. Dry your fries as much as possible.» Fries should be fried twice. Bring your oil up to 350f for the 1st frying. Place a basket full of dried fries into the oil for 3 to 5 minutes. Your NOT going to cook them all the way through. This is a BLANCHING method. This will drive most of the moisture out of the fries and make them crispy for the 2nd frying.» After blanching for a few minutes bring the fries up out of the oil and let them cool down to room temperature. I spread mine on a bakers rack which sits on a big baking sheet (found here on Amazon).» Bring the oil up to 375f for the 2nd frying and fry them for 2 or 3 minutes until they turn golden brown. They will be nice and crispy.» There are 2 Secret Ingredients that makes my fries taste so good… Lawry’s Seasoned Salt! Yes, it’s much better than plain salt and can be found here on Amazon. The 2nd ingredient is TALLOW. Lard is rendered pig fat. Tallow is rendered Beef fat. It has no smell and is pure white. It almost lasts forever! You can purchase it here on Amazon in buckets. For the average fryer you’ll need 2.5 lbs to 3 lbs. It’s pricey but for a reason. It’s EXCELLENT and it’s healthy. And here’s a secret from the old days. That restaurant with the Golden Arches.. you know the ones.. Before the mid-80’s – they use to fry their fries in TALLOW and 7% Peanut Oil. I do too! You need the peanut oil to just cover the heating elements at the bottom of the pan. Why? Tallow is kind of like lard in that it is soft white but not an oil UNTIL it gets hot. So if it’s directly on the heating elements it will smoke! Don’t do it! Put in the Peanut Oil first then put in the Tallow until the oil rises up to the Max line inside the frying bowl. For several years I’ve been purchasing the Peanut Oil in 1 Gallon containers from Amazon. It’s an excellent product and arrives fast. This is what made our Fries so tasty back in the day. If you study Tallow many doctors will even tell you how healthy it is. There are video’s about it on the internet. How about frying Shrimp, Okra and Zucchini or Chicken? Here’s a great product also found here on Amazon. It’s called Louisiana Shrimp Fry. Actually the Louisiana Chicken Fry also seems to be the same ingredients.. just a change in the package labeling.» Take 5 tablespoons of the Louisiana Shrimp or Chicken Fry and mix with 1/2 cup of water. Place your Shrimp or Okra or Zucchini or piece of Chicken into this mixture.» Next place the rest of the dry ingredients (Shrimp or Chicken Fry) into a breading bowl or 1-gallon plastic bag. Remove your whatever you’re going to fry from the liquid mixture and place into the breading bowl or bag and shake vigorously to coat the item.» Bring the temperature of your oil up to 350f. Fry the shrimp for 2.5 minutes (not to exceed 3 minutes) and 3 minutes for Okra or Zucchini till golden brown. For chicken it will take longer depending on what part of the bird you’re cooking. Use an instant read thermometer. This will give you some of the best Southern style food you’ve ever tried.

  10. THIS Is the ONE You Want. I wanted to replace our dinky, cast-iron fying pot with something a bit easier to clean, and with more capacity for a family of six. I was on the fence as to which deep-frying to buy, but I remembered the name T-fal was synonymous with quality and decided to take a change on the 3.5 quart model.Attractive features include: Removable heating element, removable stainless steel fryer bucket that overlaps the side of the outer case keeping that part clean and the lip goes with the bucket into soapy water for cleaning! It has an oil drain feature that strains the oil into a flat plastic catch bottle that can then be removed for easy discard of the oil, or to reuse it after being strained. The system has proven to work seamlessly and without mess. The vented lid covers the fry basket when the food is being lowered into the hot oil preventing splashes. Temperature control is easy and obvious, and the magnetic power plug keeps thing safe. The unit has side handles so it can be easily picked up and stored on a shelf when not in use.Best of all, 3.5 quarts is a LOT bigger than it sounds which is great for making fries for a full house. The fry basket holds about half of a large bag of frozen fries, and it’s great for quick-frying all manner of other frozen foods such as chicken tenders. We’ve had this for several months and it’s still working perfectly.I rate this as an emphatic BUY!

Very Happy with this T-Fal 3.5L Deep Fryer with Oil Filtration. I looked online at many reviews and this unit consistently was rated very well, so I purchased it and have been loving it ever since.IMHO the oil filtration is a must, this is what makes deep frying so much easier than a pot you have to dump out and filter manually and clean. When the oil is cool, you flip a lever to have all of it drain into the reservoir underneath. The process captures all bits of food so you get filtered oil you can reuse. Note that the oil will darken with continued use. After taking out the captured food bits from the tank, the whole thing (minus the electric heater element) fits into the dishwasher and usually comes out spotless. It’s even simple enough to clean by hand, if you want.I’ve been very happy with this appliance and use it regularly. The only “cons” i’ve noticed are:- Maximum temperature is 375F. That’s usually good for almost all foods but if you want a higher temperature, this fryer can’t go above that, but I’m not sure many can.- The filtered oil reservoir snap on lid is easy to not snap on correctly, then when you go to dump your filtered oil it goes all over the place (ask me how I know). As long as you snap it on correctly, it’s fine.Helpful tip: NEVER fill about the “MAX” line in the tank, it won’t fit in the reservoir and when you filter your oil, it will spill out all over the place (ask me how I know this).Another Tip: Amazon sells 128 fl oz peanut oil which fills the tank to capacity, this is what I use.

  15. We love it

  18. Easy to clean, works great. I love this thing! It’s easy to clean and most parts just go in the dishwasher. The oil stores in the machine which makes it even easier. It keeps a steady temperature while cooking and holds quite a bit of food. It would have been better if it was narrower and deeper but it probably wouldn’t fit most countertops then.It says you can use tallow or lard but I am not going to try as it will make cleanup a lot harder but I’m sure it would cook fine.I would say if it had a negative it would be the thermostat. It has temperature indicators on it but I don’t think they are accurate. There are no indents to set an accurate temperature. I cook most things at almost max anyway and they cook fast. It takes some practice but I have cooked potatos, shrimp, chicken, and more! For the price, you can’t beat it.

  19. Works well, helps keep oil clean/organized. I got the smaller (1.8L) version since I’m only cooking for one these days. Heats up much quicker than my older, larger one. Not as thrilled by the readability of the temps compared to my older one, but that’s probably more a fault of the lighting situation in my kitchen and my aging eyesight.Pro tip #1: Wait at least an hour or two before turning the oil release handle and allowing the oil to drain into the plastic holding bin. Better safe than sorry, even though it wasn’t clearly stated in my instruction manual.Pro tip #2: Keep a couple of 2L or larger, clean, wide mouth, resealable, glass jars handy. I use cleaned/sanitized spaghetti sauce jars. The plastic bin pour spout is small enough for an easy pour into the wide mouth jar. I keep one for french fries, one for chicken, one for fish, and one for mozzarella sticks. That way, the flavors don’t transfer between foods.Pro tip #3: Remove the control and heater element after the oil has had a chance to fully drain/drip off the heating element (I wait overnight). Then, wipe out the stainless steel reservoir and make sure the strainer screen in the bottom is clean before moving the lever back to the “cook” or “remove reservoir” positions. It keeps everything clean and prevents build up over time.

  20. WORKS GREAT ….continuous heat even when used outside. Used for super bowl party. Had it sitting on deck to fry food and it was 10degrees outside and it held the heat and fried food to perfection. I can’t believe how fast it filtered the food and it was so easy to clean and store the oil. IT IS A GREAT BUY.
