  1. Home run. First off I am writing this review only to help others. I have received no compensation of any kind for it.Second off, I’ve been running since 1998 (25 years). I’m currently in my mid 40s and working towards a goal of running 3,000 miles (the distance across the continental U.S.) bit-by-bit between 40 and 50. I run 3-5 miles 3X a week, no more/no less. Since age 42 I’ve run 1700 miles. I’ve written running shoe reviews semi-professionally in the past, too. So I am pretty qualified to review a running shoe.Thirdly, my preferred brand is ASICS. I have tried a lot of shoe brands as a semi-professional reviewer because they were sent to me, but I always have come back to ASICS because they just…work. I believe the straight lasting is a lot of the reason why. Also, the tendency of the ASICS brand to put their premium technology into their budget models (GEL cushioning, for example) brings me back again and again. They just make the best affordable runners on the market.Fourthly, I have always been an advocate for budget running shoes, provided they are well-designed. I have tried the expensive ones at various times and have developed more typical running injuries in those than I have in a solid pair of reasonably-priced running shoes. Particularly, I do not like ultra-cushioned shoes. I like a low-to-the-ground natural feel when I run. In ultra-cushioned shoes, I can’t get ground-feedback when running and that’s a fail for me. It’s like running in space. It’s weird.Fifthly, and this is probably the main point, the ASICS Excite series is a favorite of mine. I have used the Excite 2, 4, 6, 7, 8, and now 9. They keep getting better. I find that they have just enough cushioning to dampen impact but not so much as to throw off my gait. I use them with my doctor-prescribed orthotics (pictured) and the combo works very well. If I were a distance runner (like a marathoner) I might need a shoe with more cushioning, but for 3-5 miles 3X a week these are absolutely ideal. ASICS has priced this model very reasonably which is great given the high-level tech used here; the GEL heel cushion plus Amplifoam midsole are superb for dampening shock from the road. The outsoles are durable too. The uppers aren’t as tough as those on the Excite 8 but it still works fine for me. Fit is on-point too. Overall for what these cost you will likely not find a better performance runner. So in summary, if you’re a regular runner/jogger and looking for a good solid shoe to use for shorter distances (up to 6 or 7 miles), look no further. These are absolutely superb and I honestly like them better than many shoes that cost twice as much or more!

These are absolutely superb and I honestly like them better than many shoes that cost twice as much or more!Update: Six months of jogging 3-5 miles 3X/week and these shoes are still going strong. Minimal tread wear, no wear to the upper, cushioning still firm and responsive. What a great value!Update 2: 9 months of jogging 3-5 miles 3X/week and my shoes are finally worn out. The cushioning no longer has enough “spring” for running, although I can use the shoes for walking or errands for a few more months. On to the next pair of the same model! I’ll say that most of my running shoes last 6-8 months of regular running regardless of the price, making these Excites a super performer. The uppers are still intact and the outsoles have minimal wear, which is surprising. My experience with the ASICS Excite 9 overall has been extremely positive. I will say that these are my choice for runners as long as they are being made. I see that there is a version 10 of the Excite out now too, which I’ll have to try in the future.

  3. Comfort. Most comfortable shoe I have ever worn! I’m over 400lbs and I’ve had many asics but these?? I love them nd I tell everyone to get a pair! I got an 11 wide.

  4. Fits great. Though I really like these sneakers . The only issue I had was the delivery. It was pouring rain the day it was delivered and they were delivered in a box which got soaked all the way through. I would think someone would put in plastic, something that wouldn’t get wet. Especially being it was raining all day.Other than that. I was happy with product. Sneakers 👟 were not wet thankfully.

  5. Order larger than your usual. It took me 3 tries to get the size right. The Amazon suggested size was a half size larger than my normal, so I took their suggestion. It was too small. Reordered the next half size larger. It too was too small. Finally ordered another half size larger, which fits very well.

Asics are the best. Long time ago I was looking for a walking shoe and a salesman said, “buy a running shoe and you will get more for your money.” I have been an Asics fan ever since.

  7. Comfort and Style. I love the fit and comfort of ASICS; for Christmas I bought two pair for my husband one Excite 7 and one Excite 9. He is a Brooks man and refused to wear ASICS…until he tried his Christmas gifts. I have converted him! He’s not a runner; he just likes to wear running shoes because they are comfortable and stylish. So, I bought a second pair of Gel Excite 9s and he Loves them!He says the fit is perfect. He pulls out the insoles and adds his orthotics. He says they don’t squeeze his forefoot and his toes have plenty of room to spread out; he has a medium width foot but too many other shoes feel tight on him. He says they let his feet breathe, but I already know that being a big fan of Asics. And he says the design of the shoe sole stabilizes his feet and add cushion. As an added bonus, the bottoms of the shoes don’t collect pebbles that can be dragged into the house and fall off into the carpet. Some shoe tread designs allow for small pebbles to be lodged in between the tread; we live in AZ where grass is scarce and crushed granite is everywhere. The materials used to make these shoes are quality, the construction is solid and lastly, the color combinations are pretty cool.

  8. A Brooks Ghost guy goes rogue. I have strictly been a Brooks Ghost running shoes guy going back quite a while. I am a suppinator, not a pronator, and the neutral Ghost sneaker has been a good choice. I have been a runner, and have done 5k’s, nothing extreme. I speed walk now, 2.6 miles a day, but I am running the course once per week to get back into running shape.I was attracted to the ASICS Gel-Excite 9’s frankly because of the price, but also the AMZN reviews. So I bought two pair. Right out of the box the shoes fit great. I am a men’s US 10.5 D width, and these shoes fit true to size. I had no issues with a narrow toe box as some have observed.Compared to the Ghost, the ASICS seemed to have more noticeable heel cushioning, perhaps because the heel drop differs from the Ghost, not sure. Like the Ghost, the ASICS shoe is not a Hoka bouncy, cushiony shoe. It has enough cushioning, but you definitely are in contact with the road when you run.I did one run so far with the ASICS and it was a great experience. I am thinking that I am becoming a convert.BTW, ASICS = anima sana in corpore sano, or, a sound mind in a sound body.

  9. Comfy Sneaker. This is a nice inexpensive, comfy, and stylish running sneaker. I feel my foot is well supported with nice cushioning. I do question how long it will hold up as I plan to give them a lot of road work. But for now it is a very nice sneaker especially for the low price.

  10. Very comfortable with good arch support. Very good product at a great price with great comfort
