Perfect for Goldendoodle Grooming. Unfortunately, a lot of people get “doodle” breed dogs thinking that since they are low shedding that they are also low maintenance. That’s only true if you plan on having them come home from the groomer looking like a shaved rat. If you want a fluffy doodle that is tangle free with a long coat and healthy skin, you need to brush them out regularly, preferably daily. That requires specific tools including a steel comb and slicker brush. From my experience, most metal combs are pretty similar, but there is a BIG difference in slicker brushes out there on the market today. Trust me, I have over 6 different brands of slicker brush and 3 different metal combs. I also recommend some sort of grooming table, as it will save your back and be easier and safer for your dog. At this point I use the metal comb, this slicker brush, and my Chris Christensen slicker brush to maintain my dog’s coat daily between regular grooming (every 3-4 weeks).This brush is much stiffer than other slicker brushes I have. It’s perfect for areas like the legs, feet, and behind the tail where mats tend to form. If you go very slow and careful with the brushing and stay on top of the grooming, it’s a painless and enjoyable bonding experience for both you and your dog!After brushing out the problem areas with this stiff Paw Brothers slicker brush, I will comb over the area with my metal comb to make sure no tangles remain.Last, I use the Chris Christensen brush to finish up because it’s much softer and good for fluffing up the dog and making her look great. The Chris Christensen brush is too soft though to get out the underlying tangles in a very long coat though, which is why this Paw Brothers brush is so good.My only complaint, is that because the brush is so stiff, it’s a little difficult to get the hair out of it. On my Chris Christensen brush I can run my comb through it and vacuum it up to pick up the hair, but this one stays pretty messy. Not too big a deal for most people but I’m a little OCD and don’t like to leave hair everywhere.When I first brought home my Goldendoodle, I had already done all the research and thought I was well prepared by buying the most expensive grooming tools (Chris Christensen). But as her coat got longer and more difficult to manage, my groomer suggested I try out this inexpensive brush, which I think is a steal and excellent value. It has been a game changer and shaved off 15 minutes from daily brushing. You don’t need $100 brushes to maintain your dog, just time and patience. You can get both this brush and a metal comb for like $20 or so combined and it will be enough to maintain your doodle!Hope this was helpful and good luck maintaining your goldendoodle!!
Works great on my standard poodle. When I asked my groomer to recommend a brush so that I can keep my standard poodle looking good, she showed me what her shop sold. Pretty expensive. But I came to Amazon to find something similar for less, and this long-pin slicker brush has exceeded my expectations. It’s similar to what my dog has become accustomed to at the groomer so he’s mellow with it. And it does a fantastic job, keeping his coat more tamed than it had become. This brush is comfortable to use for me, and while the pins look insubstantial, they are so far staying in the brush and doing a great job with my boy’s hair.
Easy to use and handle but has plastic nubs. I purchased this slicker brush because of the size and the finer bristles to be used on my Poodle who has soft curly hair. However, I must not have read the fine detail before purchasing as I was disappointed when I unpacked to find it has small plastic nubs that can cause dragging and pulling which defeats the purpose of a slicker brush. It would be perfect for a short haired cat or dog coat that does not need professional grooming but I would not recommend on a dog or cat that has long hair or curly hair as more of a risk to pull when trying to brush. The size is small so for a larger dog, it would not have the coverage needed for adequate brushing. Better size for a small dog or a cat. I will give this brush to a charity as it is a quality brush just not meeting the needs of a pet with curly hair.
Good small slicker. I purchased this for use on a Shih Tzu. Many slickers have hard pins which our dogs does not like as it hurts. This brush helps keep the coat mat free without harming the dog. So I like it. It is smaller than I expected, more cat size however it is working well. I may purchase a large size for my larger dog.
Perfect for my Cavalier King Charles. I brush my little girl daily. (Other than the shedding, she’s perfect!) When I got her, I tried 1/2 dozen different brushes, including several that were self-cleaning. Those were thick, and it made it more awkward to brush around her limbs. I have no problem working the hair out of the brush. I recommend the small brush if you have a smallish dog whose hair isn’t too thick (maybe a straight-haired dog).
