There is no fluff. Straight talk about how to heal and what to eat.–This is not an expensive plan or a list of 57 things you have to do before 5 am. SIMPLE nutrition changes. If you take away nothing else, switch to kosher salt (p. 91).–Case studies. I enjoy reading about real things happening to real people. It helps to read these. One of them could have been written about me, it was so similar!–You can be on a specific type of eating plan and this STILL WORKS! There are modifications for people who are vegan, gluten-free, paleo, or autoimmune paleo. I am vegan, and finding books that incorporate 100% plant-based modifications are hard to find.–The green, yellow, and red light foods are shockingly simple to implement. The book has you mostly eat the “green light” foods during the RESET so you lower iodine.–It has a maintenance plan. After you reset and you get to the maintenance phase, you can bring in some more yellow and red foods.–The 28 day meal plan and shopping lists are fantastic. —The recipes are interesting and not too complicated and it will be easy to try.–Quick Start Guide on page 104.Highly recommended. Well worth the $13 investment.
If you have thyroid issues, you need this book. Not only does the book tell you WHAT to do to feel better, it details step-by-step HOW to do it too. The Thyroid Reset Diet is an easy read, packed with specific action steps to heal your thyroid. Foods are categorized as Green Light, Yellow Light, and Red Light. Green Light Foods have negligible amounts of iodine. Yellow Light Foods are caution foods, and Red Light Foods are best avoided. The Thyroid Reset Diet also includes over 60 recipes. It’s not a diet book; it’s a way of eating that helps the thyroid. This book can help anyone who has suffers with thyroid issues. I follow Dr. Alan Christianson, and began eliminating iodine a year ago. I couldn’t believe how much better I feel after following the Thyroid Reset Diet. This program truly works! Highly recommend.
Dr. Christianson’s programs work. Following Dr. Christianson’s advice has made a huge difference in my health. Diagnosed with Hashimoto’s in 2014, I had been following a gluten-free diet, but it had not made a huge difference. It was not until I did a retreat with Dr. Christianson in the spring of 2019 and learned the importance of staying low iodine that I was able to feel a difference. As of fall 2020, my blood test came back normal, I have been able to lose 20 pounds, have plenty of energy, and sleep 7 1/2 to 8 hours a night. Thank you, Dr. C!
Willing to try. This book identifies a potential to get off meds. I really do not like having to take them. So, I will try this for at least 30 days to see if it makes any difference. It’s an easy read and written for the common person to understand. I do like that it has meal plans and recipes (at least for a start). Not sure I could sustain eating some of these recipes, but I will figure things out if iodine is really the problem for me.However, the page numbers referenced in the meal plan do not correlate to the page of the recipe itself. AND…if you go strictly by the shopping list provided in the back of the book, you will find yourself missing some very important and not so common ingredients. Read each recipe and check your cupboards versus using the shopping list in the back of the book.Crazy that an editor didn’t catch this.
Great information, lots of science and easy to implement. As someone diagnosed as hypothyroid in 2020 early in the pandemic, I was told very little about this condition other than it’s autoimmune and keep taking these pills. It’s possible that if the timing had been different I may have had more consultation with my doctor and given more lifestyle suggestions as well.At first, after starting treatment, I felt a lot better. Within 6 months of treatment we had moved to Europe so while on one hand, the lifestyle in sunny Spain has been great, my continuity of care has definitely been affected.Over this last 9 months the crushing fatigue and insomnia came back along with a new flare of anxiety and actual panic attacks. But my thyroid labs were within the range so no adjustment was deemed necessary by my regular doctor here.This led me to looking for answers, doing some digging, and finding a functional medicine doctor here who could help. My functional med doctor identified some high amounts of mitochondrial dysfunction and a high degree of missing microbiota.This book is one among several I have read in the last few months and what I love about it is the writing is very simple and clear. He uses a lot of references to having reviewed the studies so it’s not just his own experience or opinion.My take after a full read and a half, that is for me, there seems little to lose by attempting even the first month of implementing the “green foods” which comprise a robust set of healthy offerings and looking at personal care product labels to reduce the amount of iodine in my system. If it goes well I will circle back with results within a few months.
