FoodSaver 1-Quart Pre-Cut Vacuum Seal Bags with BPA-Free Multi-Layer Construction for
Good bags, curious pricing. There are a lot of different vacuum bags and sealing systems on the market, and each claims to keep food fresh the longest. Turns out that the most important factor is not the machine, or the material of the bags, but the thickness of the material used. As food freezes, the small amount of water water on the surface of the food forms tiny ice crystals, and those crystals are sharp enough to penetrate the plastic bag material. If the material is too thin, the crystals penetrate in short order, make a lot of very small holes, and the vacuum is lost. Thick plastic resists this, and the FoodSaver bags use a relatively thick material- I believe it’s 3.5 mil- when compared to cheaper bags. Simple. (You can buy 5 mil bags, which are even better, but I don’t think they work with the inexpensive sealers, and I’ve only been able to find them in commercial quantities.)One curious thing: These bags are priced in a very curious manner. The box of 20 bags comes to 49.5 cents each. Buy the box of 44, and the price drops to 40.9 cents. Larger box, lower price, as you’d expect. But when you buy the 88 bag box, the price jumps to 90.9 cents a bag, and the 100 bag box is still 84.26 cents per bag. So if you’re planning on buying more than 44, don’t buy the 88 or 100 bag box; instead, buy two 44-bag boxes.

Keeps food fresh. I love these. I sometimes buy them on line because the stores are often out of them. I freeze fresh vegetables all the time even though they aren’t recommended for freezing They work great.
