I recently installed the Google Nest Thermostat in my home, and while it has proven to be a reliable and efficient device overall, there were a few initial setbacks that required professional assistance. Here’s my review based on my experience:Installation and Setup: 3/5The installation process for the Google Nest Thermostat was relatively straightforward, thanks to the instructional video provided. However, I encountered difficulties during the setup that only resulted in the fan turning on rather than the complete functioning of my AC system. As a result, I had to seek professional help to rectify the issue. It would have been helpful if the setup instructions were more comprehensive and addressed potential troubleshooting scenarios.Performance and Functionality: 4/5Once the installation and setup issues were resolved, the Google Nest Thermostat performed admirably. It effectively regulated the temperature in both my upstairs and downstairs areas, providing a comfortable environment throughout my home. The thermostat’s ability to learn and adapt to my preferences over time was a notable feature that enhanced its functionality.Connectivity and Internet Dependency: 3/5One aspect that proved to be a challenge was the dependency of the Google Nest Thermostat on a stable internet connection. In instances when my internet was down, the device experienced numerous issues. It would have been beneficial if the thermostat had more robust offline capabilities to ensure uninterrupted operation even without an internet connection.User-Friendliness and Interface: 4/5The user interface of the Google Nest Thermostat is intuitive and easy to navigate. However, the initial installation and setup process proved to be more challenging than anticipated, requiring professional assistance. Additionally, the device’s dependence on a stable internet connection may present issues during internet outages. Despite these hiccups, once properly installed and connected, the thermostat performs admirably and provides an intuitive user experience.

Good Thermostat, check your furnace board for C wire. This thermostat has been great so far, although it has only been a few days since I have installed it. I had a c wire already, but it had not been connected at the furnace side (photo attached), so no 24v common power was being delivered. Note that it is not required to have a C wire, but if you do have a preexisting one, make sure it is connected to the furnace board on the other end and if you are uncomfortable working with that, call an A/C tech for help. The thermostat itself is great, as setting schedules is easy and the overall speediness of the system activating seems faster, although that just may be my appeal to novelty. Other than that, it’s what you’d expect a smart thermostat to do. (save energy, figure out when you are not home and adjust accordingly, etc.)

Doesn’t work with the Nest app. Why is this called a Nest, yet it doesn’t work with the Nest app? Additionally the controls are terrible – it doesn’t have that awesome ring control like a real Nest, instead it’s an awful slider on the side that rarely does what you want it to do.All Google did here was take some cheap Chinese garbage and slap the word Nest on it double the price.Now, if you’ve never used a real Nest product, don’t already have other units using the Nest app, then maybe you’ll think this is great. But it’s not, and you might as well get some cheap unit from someone else because there’s no benefits in terms of fit and quality like past Nest products. The fact that Google was too lazy to make this work with the Nest app is just indefensible.
