  1. Purchased for a friend. I purchased this for a friend who has had surgery already, but then developed more pockets about a year after her surgery and had a flare up. I purchased this as a gift for her to help her navigate what to eat during the flare, as well as in the weeks and months after the flare. She has made most of the recipes from this book and has said many times how grateful she is that I sent it to her, because she was struggling previously with how to eat. She has proceeded back into the high fiber recipes and loves them. The recipes are generous portions and she is able to freeze some leftovers, which helps her on days she is short on time but still needs to eat properly. Based on my friend’s feedback about the book, I highly recommend it to those struggling with diverticulitis or those who have recently been diagnosed and are learning how to manage the disease.

  2. Great resource. This book was just what I needed when I was diagnosed with diverticulitis. My health care providers were not very specific about how to go about recovering from a flare up (my first) other than advising I should go on a liquid diet “until I felt better”. This author has a step by step guide on how to structure recovery and also prevention for future flare ups. The dietary guide and menus (and shopping lists) are very helpful.   3. Don’t be me. Read this invaluable guide before you have a flareup. Honestly, I purchased this book, then shelved it after a brief perusal. Thorough reading didn’t seem that urgent while my guts weren’t stabbing me. But, whoa, I was so happy it was there when I had a recent flareup! It succinctly answered all the questions that I had without making me wade through a bunch of fluff.If you have struggled through diverticulitis, you know it can feel pretty solitary. You alone are responsible for the critical dietary component, which can stretch out for weeks, often with vague directions from your health care provider. I found this guide very calming and supportive during those days. And the recipes are proof that you can still be creative within the limitations of a low residue dietary period. (Unfortunately, if you are facing the “clear liquid” days, you just might have to make friends with Jello again…)
