  1. Works great for string lights. Thought it was causing a GFCI tripping problem – guess not. Below is my 3 star rating which I’m changing to 4 stars now that I’ve done some more investigating. I thought rain was getting into the TPLink plug and causing the GFCI to trip – but I found out it was where the lights plugged into an extension cord. I removed the TPLink plug from the outlet and plugged the extension cord directly into the GFCI outlet and it tripped. Hmm. Guess the TPLink wasn’t the problem. It turns out there was water in the extension cord plug from a heavy rain. That must have been the issue with my first TPLink plug also. So, if your GFCI plug keeps tripping and you’re using an extension cord, check the female end of the extension cord and see if there is some water in it. I’m going to wait for it to dry completely and then use electrical tape to keep water out of the connection. For some reason there is still some current going through the string lights even when the lights are off which is why the 4 star rating rather than 5.Original review when I thought the TPLink plug was causing the GFCI to trip:This is my second purchase of this 2 plug unit. I use it to remotely control some string lights. It was easy to setup and has good wifi range. It responds almost immediately using Alexa. I have a schedule so the lights turn on at dusk and turn off at 10:00 PM. That’s the good – now the bad. I turned off the lights using Alexa and replaced a broken bulb – and got shocked while doing so. Power was obviously still flowing even thought it was supposed to be off. I also noticed that the lights wouldn’t turn off all the way – they would glow faintly. The GFCI would trip frequently as would the breaker in the fuse box. I figured I had a bad plug and bought another. It has been working fine for the most part, but the GFCI breaker would intermittently trip with it also. I replaced the GFCI outlet. No help. It had been working fine for the last few weeks until we had a lot of rain the last two days. It has now begun tripping the GFCI outlet again and the breaker in the fuse box. It says it’s waterproof but obviously isn’t. I’m going to get rid of it and try a different brand. Too bad because I really like it when it works.

  2. Instructions could be clearer. This works great now that I figured out how to connect it. It’s definitely NOT intuitive. If you join the plug’s WiFi too early then your phone can’t connect to the app (at least my iPhone couldn’t). Then when you do connect, my iPhone 14 indicated that there was no WiFi signal – that’s okay, but it seemed like an error, so I tried to figure out the problem. So if the directions were better, it would be 5 stars. One other small issue is that the included “Waterproof Tips” card indicates that you should “secure the plug with provided clamp and screw” – mine didn’t include those items.UPDATE: So once I figured out the first one I bought a second, thinking it would be easy to set up. Yes and no. The initial set up was easy, but then the plug didn’t appear in my home. So I thought I had set it up wrong so I reset it and set it up again. Same thing – only one (the original) appeared in my home. Turns out because I also have an indoor plug in my office I have two homes, and the app put the new plug in my office “home”. Once I did that I had to create another room in my real home and then I could move the plug to the right place. Maybe there is a way to have two plugs in the same room, but I didn’t want to spend time on it and it works the way it is.

  4. This works really well with dimmable LED lights. Setting up the device was an effortless process, seamlessly connecting it with both my ALEXA and Google Home apps. The setup was straightforward, and I found that controlling the device through my phone’s app was intuitive and user-friendly. One of the standout features is the ability to establish presets, particularly useful for adjusting the lights’ brightness in my case. Additionally, its waterproof design provides a valuable layer of versatility, catering to various environmental needs. The overall build quality of the device is commendable, boasting a sturdy construction that imparts a sense of durability. The integration with ALEXA further enhances its functionality; for instance, I can simply instruct “Alexa, turn on the patio,” and the lights illuminate as desired. The degree of control is impressive too; with a simple voice command like “Alexa, set patio to 1%,” I can achieve precisely the ambiance I seek. This seamless interaction between technology and the environment is not only convenient but also oddly satisfying, making the whole experience of controlling the lights an enjoyable part of my routine.

  5. Super easy and efficient. Saw some reviews it was hard to didn’t connect easily to Wi-Fi. This literally took 5 minutes to connect and the app walks you through it. It couldn’t be easier lol.We have spotty Wi-Fi too and it still connected. Great to be able to dim the tea lights as they were way to bright. Great product. Use my phone to dim or set schedule.
