Tsunami Effect is an enchanting story about the healing power of compassion. It is the chronicle of a trauma recovery project in South India following the 2004 Asian Tsunami, one of the greatest natural disasters in modern history. Told through the narrative of project director Timothy L. Trujillo, it is a tale of discovery in the midst of realizing a personal mission to reduce suffering. Infused with the flavors, colors, and spiritual mysteries that are the fabric of India, it could be subtitled, “Eat, Pray, Heal”. Through multiple ‘on-the-ground’ case reports, Trujillo portrays the remarkable ability within individuals to recover from life-challenging trauma and profound grief. As a pilot project to demonstrate the effectiveness of mind/body therapies, it is a story within a greater odyssey to take the same methods that have helped people with HIV/AIDS in Los Angeles to the entire world. Mr. Trujillo follows up the India story with a review of responses to other disaster events since and how they are shaping our understanding of the impact of overwhelming circumstances and methods of coping with post-traumatic distress. Tsunami Effect is a must-read for anyone who has ever suffered loss or wanted to truly make a difference.

  1. This story is written like no other. Tsunami Effect, by Timothy Trujillo, is a first-hand account of the writer’s trip to areas devastated by the 2004 tsunami. He takes you along with him as he prepares for, travels to and works within several villages. The sights, smells and tastes are so well described, it is as if you are right alongside for the journey. This story is written like no other. It fully expresses how a combination of gentle techniques, various spiritual teachings and love can heal and restore our fellow man not only to wholeness and well-being after tragedy, but have profound, lifelong effects. I highly recommend reading Tsunami Effect for anyone interested in mission work, involved with healthcare or healing, or anyone who has a compassionate heart for those less fortunate.

Beautifully written. This book is a must read for anyone that has ever wanted to reach out and help someone after they have gone through the unimaginable. It is a very well written account of one man’s journey as he seeks to offer peace, comfort, and healing to people who are trying to rebuild their lives after a devestating tsunami.Timothy takes the reader through various sights, sounds, flavors, and emotions with his writing. I felt as though I were walking with him. Having an open heart and mind causes him to really “see” the people he is treating in all of their humanity instead of just fixing a “problem.”This is a beautifully crafted story that I am so thankful Timothy was able to share with all of us. I’m an 8th grade English teacher in a very culturally diverse middle school. (33 different languages to date) I would recommend this book to my students not only for the vivid descriptive writing, but also for the wonderful example of respect and celebration of a culture very different from one’s own.

Mind your health. I have always preached that your mind is the most powerful thing you possess. This book went into more detail and suggested things that I hadn’t tried…..yet. I loved this book and had trouble putting it down. The message is clear. There is hope! Buy it and be helped. Cheers!

  5. Moving story, a beautiful memoir. This story is about hypnosis and Reiki, as used on a Healer’s journey to help traumatized victims of a Tsunami. A first-person chronicle of the author’s journey, observations and experiences in India that immerse you in the culture, poverty, rituals, and the spirit of these beautiful people. Well written, very personal and soulful.
