Good value. So okay… It’s a toaster…. And an inexpensive one at that. I am not typically a guy who searches out the cheapest thing especially when it comes to appliances or “durable goods”. But with a toaster, I thought I would just give it a try. This toaster replaced an earlier, far more expensive, upscale model that performed just “okay” and lasted about ten years. Since I no longer really care about what visitors think about my purchase decisions and I am no longer interested in “keeping up with the …”, I figured this toaster would be fine…. as long as it worked the way it was supposed to. The one it replaced was also a Cuisinart….. long slot, beautiful finish, high tech controls, heated with fancy glow bulbs…. Well, the bulbs gave up and it seemed such a waste of time and dollars to try to replace them… especially since the toaster never performed nearly as well as it should have (considering the original price…). So I decided to go the opposite way this time. This Cuisinart toaster looks good, toasts two slices at a time, will accept and toast bagels and English muffins, and works the way it was designed (at least so far…!!).Toasting normal sandwich bread is easy. Set the darkness to the center (#4) and push the lever/handle down. Shortly you will have toast. Both sides toasted to a close approximation of each other. If you toast other bread styles like the more upscale bakery breads (7-grain, Oatmeal-honey, All-grain, etc., …) then you will probably need to set the control to #5 to get a satisfactory “crunch” on your toast. English muffins take longer (in all toasters..). Bagels toast fine too. If you use the special bagel “feature” (button..) then the bagel will toast mostly on one side…. And as long as you put the bagel into the toaster the same way each time, it should be mostly satisfactory. I like the defrost setting… It works. I will usually keep a loaf or two of bread in the freezer… The defrost setting allows you to defrost and toast quickly. Should be a relatively simple process … and apparently it is because it works the way it is supposed to.I like the wide slots and the way the toaster keeps the bread centered (mostly… as long as you aren’t toasting really thin bread..). The cord is short, but that is to be expected because the law requires it. It can be routed around several little hooks on the bottom of the toaster so that it exits out from under the base on the side or the rear… whichever you prefer.Overall, I’m happy. If it quits tomorrow, I will send it back. If it quits after a few years, I will have received my money’s worth of use. No complaints.

Decent toaster, decent price. Don’t let the bad reviews intimidate you—I was skeptical at first, but the fact that I couldn’t find ANY toaster with near-perfect ratings (from a reputable brand)—aside from those in the $100 range made me rethink my options; all I want is a toaster with basic functions that won’t break after a couple years. Since this toaster is not only reasonably priced, as well as consistently well-rated from tester sites for appliances, I decided to take a chance on it.It is exactly what I’m looking for: a straightforward toaster with all the basic toaster functions (toast, bagel, defrost, reheat), and in a price range that makes sense for a small appliance that does one thing—toast bread. Additionally, it’s small, has an easily accessible crumb tray, is quiet, and the sides remain cool when toasting. But the best feature is how FAST it toasts! I find it takes a minute, maybe a little more or less, depending the setting. Its toast levels (1 – 5) give pretty distinct toast results from each level, and it toasts fairly evenly, if the pieces fit entirely into the slots—which are not long, but are just big enough to hold a bagel slice. The settings aren’t as effective as I’d like, however; for example, I find the “Frozen” setting isn’t all that different from the “Toast” setting, since toasting frozen waffles using both settings yielded similar results. The “Bagel” setting also tends to toast both sides, but maybe it’s due to the fact I like to use the higher, level 4 setting. In all, I find the positives outweigh the negatives, although I suppose it depends upon what you’re looking for. I was looking for a decent toaster for a decent price—and I found it!UPDATE: After all the abuse I’ve subjected this toaster to, it’s still going strong! I am not the best at “maintaining” appliances (okay, cleaning out the tray) but it’s never given me problems. I’ve even crammed buns that are slightly too-big and specialty bread slices (think thick sweet slices of orange-cranberry toast, cheese, cinnamon) and again, zero issues in terms of getting stuck-on food inside. It’s been really quite reliable and I know once this thing gives in I’ll likely but another one.
Works well. Item arrived on time and well packaged. I needed a basic 2-slice toaster that did not take up much counter space, and this one fit the bill. Nothing fancy here. Sides are made of hard plastic but do not burn my hands when it is hot. Settings are basic….Bagel, Defrost, Reheat, and Cancel. No fancy settings for English muffins or other specialized breads. That’s not why I bought this toaster. It’s basic, works well, and can be stored in a kitchen cabinet while not in use. I would recommend this product if simplicity and dependability are important to the buyer.
Simple to use. Very easy to use, and the defrost setting does really well for frozen homemade waffles. I don’t like my toast very well done and struggled to find a toaster that doesn’t burn beyond recognition at anything approaching the “medium” settings. This toaster just a good job a lightly toasting bread at the 2-3 setting. Which is where it should be on a toaster with settings from 1-7. Bagel setting also seems to work fine, but I am not sure what it actually does compared to the default setting for toast. I cannot discern any difference. Some other reviews are negative, while others, like mine, are positive. I think with anything made in China, the QC is always going to be an issue on products like this. If you get a bad one, send it back for a replacement and you will likely get a better one next time.
Toast is not even on both sides. I purchased this as a replacement for an old toaster that started launching the toast into the air once it completed the toasting cycle. This is an adequate toaster, but it does not toast evenly on both sides. The sides of the bread facing the outside of the toaster are more toasted than the sides facing the center of the toaster. There does not seem to be any way to adjust this. For the price, it does a decent job and I no longer have flying toast.
Look no further. I had the same model for 9 years and still worked perfectly but had mice eating from the drip trays. To be safe it was tossed and I looked for a replacement. I was shopping for more of a modern fancy toaster. I bought and returned 3 highly rated toasters before I bought this one again. This one by far is sturdier, most compact and simpler to use. My only complaint with the one I had was after years of cleaning, the lettering on the front were wearing off. Guess as the saying goes, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!”
Gets the job done. I have been using this for a month or so now. Often one side of the toast will be significantly more toasted than the other side. This doesn’t bother me most of the time, but it’s a slight annoyance. As far as build quality, I think they could have adjusted the knob to be tighter. It feels so loose that it is going to fall off. In the end, it toasts!
With a name like Cuisinart, I thought this toaster would be good. My wife and I had used the same toaster for years and years and were kind of bummed when it finally bit the dust a few months back. We LIKED that toaster. We were perfectly happy with that toaster! But now we had to buy a new one.Perhaps we were out of practice in shopping for toasters. Or maybe we thought all toasters were like our old toaster–You put bread in, it gets brown, it pops up, you butter it and enjoy. Not with this toaster. For starters, finding a proper setting is exceedingly difficult (and rare). Right now, the flimsy, cheap-feeling “doneness” dial is cranked up almost as high as it can go and we still have to push the bread down a couple of times. But then we have to watch it so it doesn’t burst into flames. It’s also very sensitive to how thick or thin the bread is. If it’s thin, it WILL start to smoke before it pops up…apparently because it’s on that higher setting from when we put in a thicker piece of bread?I used to marvel about our old toaster. I once asked my wife, “How is it, no matter what kind of bread we put in, it toasts it just the right amount and then pops it up? How does it know when it’s done?” Well, now I’m learning that our old toaster must have been a freak of nature, because what I’m learning from this QueasyShart toaster is that, not only does it NOT know when toast is done, it doesn’t really care. When it pops up looking like a piece of bread, this toaster seems to say, “Is the bread hot?” “Then eat it, nerd!” Or when it overcooks the bread: “Is it burnt to a crisp? Man up and shove it down your pie hole. I’m not here to do your bidding. I am the captain now!”Oh…and when the plumes of smoke in our kitchen set off the smoke alarm and our cats are totally freaking out, you CAN’T just lift up the handle and have the toast pop up. No, that won’t work. You have to push a tiny dedicated button (at the bottom of a row of buttons) labeled in tiny letters: “Cancel.”I didn’t know it was possible to loathe a toaster, but I am truly rooting for this one’s early demise.
Works like a charm. We have not had a toaster for some time, we’ve been using a compact table top grill which can make toast but not as fast as this toaster. Simple and easy to use controls, makes toast exactly how we like it. Great product. It does not switch off one side when all you need is one slice but that’s a small thing. Most of the time we are using both slots. The toast pops up when it’s ready which is much better than opening the door of the grill and fishing out the toast. Love it!
Did not make a year. Very surprised this name brand toaster did not last one year. Problems started (approx 6 months in) with bread not staying down in the toaster, so a double or even triple push down on the leaver. I then extensively cleaned the whole toaster. Prior to this I was just cleaning out the crumb drawer and dispensing the crumbs. Next issue eight or nine months in only one side of the bread would brown and not the other. Today 5 days shy of it’s anniversary I am toasting the bread twice to get it brown and toasted. Maybe small appliances these days only last a year, my old one lasted 20yrs and one house move.Disappointing as name brand toaster is only being used once a day toasting two pieces of bread.
Not as good as the old ones. How old are the two of these hoping that at least one was not a mistake but both of the ones that I bought only toasted one side of the bread and while looking into the toaster while it’s on you can see that not all of the heating bars were working. I am very disappointed. I’ve always had a Cuisinart toaster until the spring when my old toaster decided to only toast on one side. Now all of the new toasters that I’ve ordered only toast on one side even when you put two slices in only one side of each slice gets toasted .

my old toaster finally became TOAST! ….LOVE this Cuisinart toaster. I’m happy to have found a reliable replacement for my old toaster, which finally bit the dust (or should I say, became toast! see what I did there?). The Cuisinart CPT-122BK 2-Slice Compact Plastic Toaster has been a worthy successor!!! This compact toaster is perfect for my small kitchen countertop, and its sleek black design looks great with my other appliances. The plastic construction is sturdy and easy to clean, and the lever and buttons are intuitive and responsive. It consistently produces perfectly toasted bread, bagels, and English muffins, with a wide range of browning options to suit my taste.
