"A refreshing truthfulness that needs to be seen and heard more broadly." - Amazon Reviewer

"I can't wait to share this story with anyone and everyone willing to look beyond the glass walls Mr. Lowrey has created for us with this necessary and touching work." - Amazon Reviewer

"I wish there was more to say, but honestly I can't quite sort out my thoughts. This book will make you think an awful lot." - Amazon Reviewer

Behind the walls of an industry built on deception, there was one thing I was certain of – she was looking right at me. From the dim shadows of a metal chute in a New England slaughterhouse, her coal-black eyes proclaimed her sentience and questioned the very pillars of our beliefs.

Words on a Killing is the story of the poignant, final moments of a single life trapped within the system. An essential read to challenge your perspective on the other beings who share this world.

(Author’s Note: This work is approximately 7,000 words and is not a full-length book)

  1. Very well written, important perspective for all of humanity to know. I think it’s very easy to diminish the worth of other sentient beings and consider them as mere resources to help support human society, especially when these ‘resources’ are processed in closed steel factories that are secluded from public visibility. The foray the author takes into describing the process from a more emotive and personal standpoint than a typical individual would expect from the slaughtering process is a refreshing truthfulness that needs to be seen and heard more broadly.

  2. Changes Need to be Made to Our Laws. Bought it to support the work he is doing for animal rights, both as a lawyer and by getting the word out there as a writer. I cannot unfortunately actually read it. It would be far too upsetting for me. I recognize the need for meat, though we as Americans eat it for every meal and that is completely unnecessary, but it at least could be done humanely. Cows, pigs and even chickens are far more intelligent than originally thought….even more intelligent than dogs and yet they are treated like property. Worse than property as most people actually take care of their house, car, etc. That is why I donate to the animal legal defense fund. I will buy chasing the blue sky also. Not actually going to read it though. I am sure it is very well written.

Great book. Loved this book! I want to go into the meat industry and this helped me solidify that. These animals deserve to be treated with nothing but respect and the author properly portrays that! I just wish the name of the slaughterhouse was mentioned because it is somewhere I’d want to visit.

Startling. I chose to rate this book a perfect score as it highlighted the experiences of the victim and the herbivorous human. This is a special relationship we as vegans have with animals. Although it may seem powerless by observing the slaughter of an animal, every bit helps even through abstaining from eating other life forms. The author has done a magnificent job to showcase this story. I highly recommend it.

  5. sad. Couldn’t finish the book, wish I had been raised as a vegetarian, like the author very much and get what he’s doing. I love animals, especially mammals, very much, sad, sad, sad.
